How do you repair the tailgate of a 1989 Ford Bronco if it is stuck shut?
If the tailgate is stuck in the closed position it will be one of three things. Well, four things if you include someone welding it shut but I hope you would notice the weld burns... lol. Now then. A- the hinge and releases are rusted solid. It's not likely but it is possible. B- Body damage can tweak the whole rear of the Bronco and jam the tailgate shut. C- (and the most likely) The rods inside the tailgate that release it from the latch pins are no longer connected to the handle. If neither A or B are the cause, get inside and remove the inside panel of the tailgate. Connected to the handle there will be a couple metal rods going left and right. They're held in place with little plastic clips that commonly rot, crack and fall apart. The little plastic clips are available for a few bucks at any auto parts store. Replace them, lube up the moving bits and test it out. it that fixes it, put it all back together and you're welcome. If not, well...

Why did Henry Ford start the Ford motor company?
Henry Ford was an innovative businessman who, like many company owners, saw a need and wanted to fill that need. The Ford motor company grew out of Ford's own inventiveness. In 1896, Ford invented the Quadricycle, the first "horseless carriage" that he produced. Its popularity helped fund and launch Ford's business, and the new Ford Motor Company was founded 7 years later, on 16 June 1903.
Why is my 89 ford bronco hard to start and have small puffs of white smoke?
The white smoke could be caused by coolant leaking into the combustion chamber, though a cracked head or bad gasket.
Spray lots of wd-40 in the driver side latch, there is a mechanism in there that allows power to flow to the motor when the tailgate is closed. more than likely it is just dirty and stuck. Thing is you have to get the tailgate open.
Right answer:
BY r3dn3ck:
The answer above is almost entirely incorrect. It might be heavier heheheh. Well, yeah it is. Specifically, depending on the year of motor you use it'll be ~26lbs or ~44lbs heavier. It will fit well as has been demonstrated many times by the dozen or so Lightning swapped P71's. The only difference between a 4.6 and a 5.4 is deck height and the things that affects so it swaps fairly easily. The motor mounts are identically placed between the two relative to the oil pan rail. All the accessories transplant easily.
You'll want to buy a motor from a <01 expedition or van for the easiest time. You will need an intake manifold or intake adapter plates for good car performance (the truck intake is best left to trucks). A dyno tune is recommended but not mandatory. Cars with automatic transmissions should consider it mandatory for best drivability to get a dyno tune with a chip or handheld (costs about 500 bucks for the tune and chip/handheld) as the torque settings in the tune affect shifting of the trans.
Then check out www.hiperformancesolutions.com/54.HTML. HPS makes an intake manifold dedicated to swapping 5.4L 2v engines into places that used to have 4.6L 2v engines (mustangs, Crown Vics, etc...) without having hood clearance problems.
Don't take my word or ^^ his. Google it and look for cars on streetfire.net that have been swapped.
