Germany was a mess after World War 1, so Hitler used this to unite the people against a "common enemy", the Jews. Why the Holocaust was so effective? most people didn't even know about it. They were told they were simply rounding the Jews up and sending them to prison camps, however, the typical German citizen would of figured these prison camps to be just like they sound, not death camps, so of course they took up arms to help. Propaganda is a dangerous weapon my friend.

On March 16, 1968, My Lai Massacre, Charlie Company, 11th Brigade, is on a "search and destroy" mission in the hamlet of My Lai. Something goes horribly wrong, resulting in violent death for hundreds of unarmed civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. After one and a half years, the officer at My Lai, Lt. William Calley, is brought up on murder charges. News of atrocities at My Lai doesn't reach public media until November 1969. In March 1971, Calley is convicted and sentenced to life; he is paroled in September 1975 after serving three and a half years.

They killed of homosexuals because Hitler wanted as many people in the Third Reich as possible. So homosexuals couldn't produce children. However Hitler did allow lesbianism because he thought that no woman can resist the 'attention' of a healthy Aryan, a blond haired, blue eyed full blooded European.

Coniston massacre was one of the last organized killing of Aborigine Australians in 1928. It was carried out to seek revenge for the killing of a dingo hunter Fredrick Brooks. In the killing spree 31 native Australians were killed. Subsequent trial and injustice led to a broader inquiry and led to seizure of such acts in Australia.

In 1689 the "Glorious Revolution" had replaced James the 7th (and 2nd) on the Scottish,English and Irish Thrones by William of Orange who was the head of the Dutch republic. This was a fairly bloodless episode in England since the Protestant William was prefered to the Catholic James but in Ireland the mostly Catholic population supported James and in Scotland the again mostly Catholic Highlands also rose to defend the King, it's important to note that the Scots lowlands were much more in favour of William. This lead to various battles and events running on in Northern Ireland until the present day. However for our purposes by 1692 the minor civil war was over and James had fled to France, William then offered a pardon to those Highland Clans and Families which had fought for James and promised no action against them if they would come to a Magistrate (a judge and government rep) and swear loyalty to the (new) King before Jan 1st 1692.

Alastair Maclain the Chief of the Glencoe branch of the Clan McDonald left it to the last minute to go and make his oath. MacIain had been waiting for permission from King James to make the oath, this took a long time to arrive and for the news that James had granted it to be passed around. Once he decided to make the oath he then struggled to find a magistrate or officer to take it in front of resulting in him being 3 days late doing it.

Despite this he returned home thinking that he and his clan would be fine. However the Lowland Scots government and the old clan rivalries combined and using the excuse of his late oath the massacre was ordered, partly as an example to others but mostly to settle old scores.

The genocide happened because one group misunderstood the other. What happened after was too sad. If people had taken time to listen, then maybe this would not have happened.

In 1994, the ethnic rivalry and animosity of many years between the Tutsi and Hutus, the two main tribes of Rwanda exploded in a killing spree. The Human Rights Watch estimates that 800,000 people were killed in the hundred days between April and July of that year.

The book, "An Ordinary Man" by Paul Rusesabaggina, was the best book I have read on this subject; it makes it understandable how a "normal" society can, so easily, turn into chaos and horror. I think this book should be in every high school library. The author is the main character featured in the movie "Hotel Rwanda", it is his story.

The Armenian Genocide happened in 1915. Armenians lived in their historical homeland for more than 5000 years, had kingdoms, cities, churches and schools. In the 13-14 centuries the Turkish nomad tribes came to the region, invaded the country of Armenians. Later they created the Ottoman Empire, a part of which was Western Armenia. Armenians were the intellectual Elite of the country, they were the richest shopowners, they were poets, politicians, doctors. Armenians were rich and what is more important they were CHRISTIAN, while Turks were Muslim. And there was the "Armenian Problem", where European countries exacted benefits from Turkey by trading on the problems of the Armenian community. This made the Armenians an effective scapegoat to "show" how the European Nations always made Turkey to do their bidding. Thus, the Best explanation is that Taliat Pasha (one of the organizers) gave : If there is no Armenian, there is no Armenian Problem". Armenians as rightful owners of the land were a great threat for Turkish Tyrants.

The cause of the holocaust was that Adolf Hitler felt that what he believed in was right and that other beliefs were wrong .so he killed over 6 million people. He killed mainly Jews, homosexuals, gypsies ect...

The word most frequently used is pogrom.

The Holocaust could in fact happen again. Actually, Joseph Stalin caused a "Holocaust" which he called Ethnic Cleansing. Of couse nowadays we have Holocaust rememberence day during which we try to prevent any future Holocaust.
Yes it could. If what happened in Rwanda could happen in our enlightened times anything is possible. There was also Bosnia and the killing fields of Cambodia. Sadly, yes it could.

The government and other perpetrators used propaganda to justify their actions and mobilize support for the genocide.

After World War 1, the Treaty of Versailles punished Germany by forcing them to pay for war debts to countries such as France and Great Britain. It also forced Germany to limit its military and weakened the German economy. Germany went through many hard times, and at the same time Adolf Hitler saw the perfect time to make an appeal for power in Germany. In an almost desperate attempt to relieve their troubled economy, people turned to the promises that Hitler had proposed. He disobeyed the Versailles Treaty by rearming the German military. Hitler eventually started to demand more from other countries and no one seemed to stop him. Hitler despised the Versailles Treaty and annexed Austria, which was also in violation of the treaty. Hitler began to make claims on Sudetenland, and was given to him as a way to "prevent any further demands" and to "ensure peace between countries". This shows how the treaty from the outcome of World War 1 eventually led to angst between countries and leaders and how World War 2 was brought out of these bitter feelings and harsh situations.
