Why is it that if I squint my eyes I see images sharply but normally I see one image superimposed slightly above the other?

Squinting blocks out light from entering through the outer parts the cornea then trough the iris. Squinting can improve your vision during bright conditions if the central part of your lens has a better shape than further from the center. But as the diameter of the lens is reduced squinting further - eventually the improvement is traded off by the maximum possible resolution which reduces as the diameter reduces.

What can you use if allergic to eyeglasses with polycabonate lenses?

Most allergies to eyewear arise from the nickel metal in eyeglass frames, even frames that claim to be another metal (ie-titanium) usually still have trace amounts of nickel metal in them. If the metal on the frame is turning green where it touches your skin, this is usually a sign of nickel metal allergy.

If you do truly have an allergy to polycarbonate lenses (which I've never heard of) you can just use standard plastic (CR-39) or glass lenses.

When do people wear a masquerade mask?

A masquerade mask is often worn to a Masquerade, a large dancing event, often having much to do with anonymity and formality. There is generally dinner and ballroom dancing.

However masquerade masks originate from Venice where they were worn many months of the year during the 13th century. They allowed lovers to meet without fear of recognition, business men and politicians to carry out their affairs anonymously and for all classes to be equal.

The downside to the wearing of masquerade masks for so many months of the year was the moral decline that occurred leading to a series of laws being passed to restrict their use.

A very popular masquerade scene is featured in the Phantom of the Opera movies.

Can a low IQ of 52 be improved with vision therapy in a 9-year old child with vision problems?

Vision therapy will only help with the IQ if the reasons for the low result include the childs' inability to see the questions correctly. There are herbal treatments for helping with brain, which include the B vitamins, Folic Acid, Soy Lecithin.

Unfortunately the above poster has common misconception about what vision therapy is. Vision therapy is not limited to helping the patient see clearly. 80% of all information being processed by the brain is visual information. Vision is the process of visual input being transmitted from the eyes to the brain, the brains interpretation and processing of this information which ultimately leads to an output. I do not know the nature of this child's vision problems, but as a Vision Therapist I have worked with hundreds of children with visually related learning disabilities such as ADD, dyslexia, letter and number reversals, tracking issues (skipping and re-reading words). I would suggest the child has a visual efficiency information by an Optometrist who is a fellow in the College of Optometrist's in Vision Development. This doctor will evaluate the impact of the child's vision on academic performance and make suitable recommendations for treatment.
