Clara McBride Hale (1905-1992) was an African-American humanitarian. Living in New York City, she served as a foster mother and helped take care of homeless children. In 1969, she moved to Harlem where she established the Hale House Center (1975) as a foster home for infants and children who were addicted to drugs, because their mothers had used drugs during pregnancy.
