What was the religion of the Americas in 1450?

The Americas were not colonised by europeans until 1492. Prior to that there was no single religion or faith that united all the indigenous tribes. Each had its own set of ideals, beliefs and faiths. The more unitary faiths of the Incas and Aztecs were based around ritual human sacrifice. This was performed regularly in an effort to garner the favour of the sun god... if he was displeased the sun would not rise. The only common belief held by all native American tribes was that the land was sacred. They took from it only what they needed to survive, and they would offer gifts and what we might now call prayers in return. Many tribes believed in ancestor worship. This sometimes included ritual meditation, whereby an elder or shaman would enter a trance-like meditative state in order to commune with the spirits, whom were believed tribal ancestors. The great spirit of nature was also commonly revered, as it provided the food to sustain the tribes, the land on which to live, the trees with which to build and the sun, wind and rain to nourish the land. In my singular opinion it is a shame that more of these fundamentals were not assimilated and maintained to the present day, as they teach honour, strength, respect and reverence for all that nature provides.

Who were the spanish conquerors of Mexico and Peru during the 16th century?

The conquistadores were led by two Spanish explorers :

In Mexico, the Aztecs under Moctezuma II (Montezuma) were defeated between 1519 and 1521 by Hernan Cortés (Hernando Cortez). After 7 months of a siege by the Spanish and some Tlaxcalan warriors, the empire fell on August 13, 1521.

With Cortes was Don Pedro Alvarado, who would later govern over Guatemala and nearby Central America.

In Peru, the Incas were conquered in 1532 and 1533 by Francisco Pizarro. His troops defeated a vastly larger Incan force, and initially ransomed the Incan king Atahualpa for a roomful of gold (and two of silver). Pizarro had the king killed instead, charging that he was plotting against the Spanish.

Pastoralization of housework refers to the romanticizing or idealizing of domestic tasks and duties associated with traditional gender roles within the home. This concept can reinforce gender stereotypes and inequalities by downplaying the unequal distribution of domestic labor and devaluing the work done within the home.

Why is president Lincoln's assassination considered a turning point in history?

Lincoln favored a gradual Reconstruction of the South, as did Andrew Johnson who succeeded him. But the Congressional version simply punished the South without actually solving the problem of how to bring freed slaves into the existing society. The animosity against the excesses of the Carpetbaggers made integration of blacks and whites even more contentious.

In a metaphysical sense, the death of Lincoln was almost a martyrdom after he preserved the integrity of the country and prepared it for its eventual destiny.

How did the Salem witch trials affect American history?

NEW ANSWER:

The Salem Witchcraft Trials were important to show the world the stupidity and ignorance of others. During the 1600's and 1700's, an almost hysterical fear in witchcraft swept most of Europe. Thousands were tried and executed as witches. The courts allowed gossip and rumor to be used as evidence. Many children testified against their own parents.

The American colonists brought the belief in witchcraft from England. Suspected witches suffered persecution in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Virginia. The most famous witch hunt in American history occurred in Salem, Massachusetts. Many historians believe that Cotton Mather, a colonial preacher, did much to stir up public feeling against the supposed evil deed of witches.

In 1692, the Massachusetts colonists executed 19 people as witches, and one person was pressed to death for refusing to plead to the witchcraft charge. In addition, about 150 others were imprisoned. It is a very painful and a shameful part of the history of the United States.

What did Washington mean when he said he stresses the importance of religion and morality?

George Washington meant that if you don't believe in a religion (Christian, because in the 1700's most of the majority of people were Christians) then you are viewed differently, as in bad. It was for a reputation. Also for saying the oath in court. It was to know you are more likely not to lie while being in court. George Washington wasn't exactly worried about praising God, just the reputation and oath.
