How do you change both headlights on a 1997 Honda Civic?
On my 2000 civic I found it easiest to remove the bumper. It's not as hard as it may sound, actually there are only 4 bolts (2 10mm, 2 8mm), 2 screws (phillips), and 7 plastic pins holding the bumper on. Two bolts (8mm) are on the lip of the bumper in the wheel well, two (10mm) are on the underside of the bumper, and the screws are also on the underside, very near the front of the car. The plastic pins are on top, holding the grill in place. Remove these by prying the center of each pin with a flathead screwdriver. Once you've removed all the fasteners, pop off the corners of the bumper in the wheel wells, and pull the bumper off. There's a foam piece between the bumper and the body, make sure you put it back on when reassembling the bumper. Once the bumper is off, you can easily remove the headlight assemblies. They are held in place by 4 bolts (10 mm) each: 2 on top, 1 on the outer edge (by the wheel well) and 1 on the inner edge (by the grill). Remove the assemblies, then unplug the 3-prong plugs for the headlamps and remove the corner lamps by twisting them counter-clockwise. Once the assembly is completely removed from the car, pull the rubber seal off. Once that's done, you will see a metal clip. Press on the rounded end of the clip to open it, it's hinged on the side. The bulb will now pop out. Installation is reverse of removal. I know it sounds complicated but it really isn't. I've taken mine off to replace headlight bulbs and install custom headlight assemblies and it only takes about 20 minutes, start to finish.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1990 Honda Civic?
The answer to changing the alternator does not have to include all the time consuming work of detaching the drive train at all! Begin by jacking the car up on the drivers' side and secure it from being able to fall. Remove the drivers' side tire. Next, remove the plastic shroud around the crankcase. This is very easy. Just take a screwdriver and pop out the plastic bolts used to attach it to the frame. Remove hot post on battery and then remove wires from the back of the alternator. Remove the bottom bolt and screw from the mounting bracket by working through the wheelwell. Remove the top two bolts including the adjustment arm. The alternatior is now free to move around.Push it up out of the way. You now need to remove the mounting bracket with a 14mm socket. It has two bolts holding it on. Pull the shroud out of the way and drop the alternator down throught this opening. This is a very time saving method of removing and replacing an alternator on the civic. I replaced mine on a 1989 CRX. Approximately an hour from start to finish by using this medthod.
NOTE: ALWAYS MAKE SURE VEHICLE CANNOT FALL OFF JACK! I secured an 8 inch concrete block vertically under the front bumper to make sure the car couldn't fall on me whiile I was under it.
This isn't that tricky of an install. I've done it 3 times now.
First, take off your drivers side wheel.
Second, find the right size socket for the CV axle nut. I can't remember what size it was, but it was huge. Take your car to Napa and ask them to help you find the right one, that's what I did. Take off that nut with the socket and wrench, set aside.
Third, Take off the bottom nut holding the brake assembly to the arm holding it. I think it is a 17mm socket. There is a codder pin in this nut, so if it does not, its the wrong nut. After you take the nut off, pull the brake assembly up so it swings free.
Fouth, pull our the left CV Axle. This is the only way to fit the Alt. out from under the car.
Fifth, unbolt your alternator and the serpetine belt on it. If your belt is in good condition, don't buy another one. They are hardy things.
After getting your new alt in there, tighten it all up and repeat all these steps backwards to get it all back together. Make sure the serpentine belt is nice and tight on the crankshaft, you don't want much play in there, or you will lose power.
Fairly straight forward. Nothing mind blowing about it. If your having problems with dimming lights when pushing in your clutch, it might not be the alternator. Check all your other wiring (and your battery, the alt. itself, and grounds) before you change out and install the new one. It will save you tons of time, money and hassle.
Maybe a bit late with this but I have to chime in. After hearing a number of folks say you have to remove front axle to get alternator out, I couldn't believe the car could be designed so poorly. Today I swapped one out of a 91 into an 89...the trick is to jack frame remove wheel, remove plasic shroud, take of 14mm nut on alt bolt, drive out pin push alternator up somewhere to rest and the take 2 14mm bolts out to remove bracket. Now the alternator can be wiggled out past the obstructions.

How do i replace a Honda Civic half shaft?
are you talking about the complete cv joint and axle? my suggestion would be go to a local auto parts store and purchase a Haynes repair manual for your specific make and model. it will show you step by step instructions on how to do it with pictures. im not sure your make and model but if it is a Honda newer than 2001, there are special tools needed so you don't break the boots on the shaft and the control arms and fork. unless you have a haynes repair manual, i would take that to a local certified Honda shop.
if your car is a Honda older than 2000 it should all be the same as follows:
you will need a few tools to make your life a lot easier. first you need a 32mm six point socket. probably a boot fork. you will need the following sockets and or wrenches: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm and 19mm. all these tools can be rented at oreilly's auto, advance auto, autozone, and pepboys.
first you have to jack the car and remove the wheel with a 19mm. keep the key in the ignition so the wheel hub can turn freely. unbolt the two or three 14mm nuts on the top of the wheel hub under the hood. use a 17mm socket on one side and a 17mm wrench on the other to loosen the bolt on the very bottom of the fork, right below the disc brake. use a 32mm socket to loosen the big nut on the end of the control arm. you cant miss it. its right in the center of the brake disc. u may need someone to hold the brakes down to keep it from turning. use either a 14mm or 17 mm socket depending on your make and model to loosen the bolts at the top of the fork. there will be one other 17mm bolt towards the back side of the fork that is connected to another axle looking thing with an accordion looking boot on it. that is the steering. loosen that one also. this is where it becomes fun. if you have a boot fork this part is easy. if not you will have a lot of pounding to do. on all the bolts you just loosened, pry or pound off the fork from the little boot. you may be able to use a large screw driver or a prybar. they will eventually break free. once you get all three you can remove the whole front assembly. and the axle should slide free from the control arm. it should still be connected to the transmission but it may slide right out. if you are replacing the whole thing and it wont easily come off the transmission just use a knife or screwdriver to break the boot and the axle will come right out. then use a prybar or large screwdriver to pry off the end of the axle that connected it to the transmission. the new one should just pop right in with a little force and rebolt everything up and you are ready to go.
*notice - whenever you work on the suspension, you should always get an alignment. this will save you a lot of money on tires.

What do you do when the maintenance required light stays on?
Most auto parts stores (AutoZone in the US) will read your codes for free, and attempt (sometimes successfully) to decipher them. They may not reset your Check Engine Light, but if it was a temporary condition, disconnect your battery for about a minute and reconnect it. This will reset the ECU.
If the condition persists, the Check Engine Light will come back on.
You can unhook the neg battery terminal for 5 minutes or pull the main fuse for the same duration. Either will clear the codes and reset the monitors. The thing is though, even if you erase a code, if it is recurrent, it will set the MIL light again. And when you reset the computer, it takes a series of stops, starts, cold and hot cycles for the car to relearn settings again. This relearning will prevent you from getting the vehicle to pass inspection, unless you hit the sweet spot when the majority of the monitors are reset AND before the MIL light illuminates again. Generally when I receive codes, I make note of them, and reset the memory and see if they return. Sometimes they do not.
He is asking about the Maintenance Required Light and not the Check Engine Light.

How do you change the headlight bulb on a Honda Pilot?
Basically, you don't need any tools other than a flashlight if you're changing the bulb in the evening. The instructions from the website also uses a diagram that should help you. I have a 2005 Honda Pilot. So if your Pilot is very recent, the instructions should apply to you too. The instructions are straight-forward:
To remove the bulb:
1) You will need to open the hood
2) Remove the connector from the burnt bulb
3) Remove the rubber cover - it just snaps off
4) Remove the bulb's retaining spring- it swings out but doesn't detach
5) Remove the bulb
To Replace the bulb
Reverse the above steps. When you insert the bulb into the slot, be sure that
the tabs on the bulbs are aligned with the notches in the socket. The bulb has
a metal 'skirt' around it that holds it in place in the socket. The side that has a hole in it should be on the bottom when the bulb is in the socket. Make a mental note of the burnt bulb's position when you remove it so when you replace it with the new bulb it will be seated in the same way.
Good luck!

This answer is way off for the 2006 Pilot. The 2006 pilot has no rubber cover on either the high or low beam headlights nor do the have a retraining spring. The high and low beam are each separate lights, The low beam (which I replaced) is an H11, I cannot speak to what the high beam is (yet). The cost was about $26.00 (cheaper for a pair on Amazon) at the local O'Reilly's auto parts store. Of all the headlights I have replaced this one was the easiest by far.
1. Open the hood.
2. Locate the head light housing, they are fairly large black plastic housing with two round circle areas where the actual headlights are, the low beams have a black connector and are the closest to the fender. The high beams closest to the radiator and have a blue connector.
2. Remove the connector from the burnt bulb (pinch the top of the connector and slide it down. You will notice that the wiring for the bulb runs under the actual headlight housing and is connected to the housing by a clip that easily slides to the right (as you face the vehicle) you may be tempted to remove the clip to gain a little more slack on the wire to the bulb. I recommending leaving it in place, as it took me longer to reconnect that clip to the housing, then it did to drive to the auto parts store and get the bulb!
3. Rotate the bulb about a 1/4 - 1/2 turn upward to unlock the bulb from the housing. Take note when the low beam is locked in place the connector is at a slight angle not straight down.
4. Remove the bulb from the housing.
5. Carefully slide the new bulb in to the housing, be careful not to touch the actual bulb (glass) itself or allow the bulb to come in contact with any grease, oil or dirt that may be around the housing. Twist the bulb downward about a 1/4 - 1/2 turn to lock the bulb in place. The bulb connector will be a slight angle not straight down when locked in placed...do not force the bulb past the slight click you will feel when it is in place. Note: the high beam connector will be straight down when locked in place.
6. Slide the connector on to the new bulb upward until you hear or feel a slight click.
7. I would recommend testing ALL the lights before closing things up, you may also want to check if you have any tail lights out at this time. Nothing worse than driving around with burnt out lights, it's unsafe and just looks tacky. While you are under the hood take a look at the serpentine belt those things do not last forever, check and top off fluids you have access to.
Good luck!
I have a 2008 Pilot and found the second answer most helpful. The only thing I would add is Step 2: I used a flat head screw driver inserted into the slot at the top of the clip to release the wiring clip. I am not mechanically inclined and found replacing the bulb really easy.
