What is the history of the former Carson C Peck Memorial Hospital in Brooklyn New York?

I worked in Brooklyn in the late seventies delivering oxygen for the Holmes medical company and Carson Peck Hospital was on my route. The place was scary and looked like something from a slasher movie series back then. The lobby had wonderful stained glass and marble everywhere. We accessed the building from the loading dock and rolled the 200 lb. oxygen tanks into an old fashioned fright elevator with a gate you closed and a power handle to make the thing ascend. The wards were filled with REALLY REALLY old people back then all dressed in white (it was a nursing home then) The nurses still wore starched white uniforms and it really seemed like a forgotten planet in the middle of Brooklyn. I will tell you the grounds were beautiful with real oak and elm trees on the property. The Hospital building was in the middle of the property on a small hill, all brick and granite. I was always amazed that no smart boy developer hadn't grabbed it up or that the Hassidic community hadn't bought the property. If I ever had to move back to Brooklyn with 75 million dollars I would buy that property.

From Mike Conway January 4, 2012

When the nursing home closed, it became a Kosher Hotel which was not successful. The building was demolished. The spacious property now includes a girl's yeshiva and town houses. BTW, the hospital was built in 1906. Peck was a newspaper publisher.

Do you go straight to hospital if you go into labor?

Your body will know when it's time to go, but to not get sent back home you should be experiencing contractions that are very intense, that are about 4-5 minutes apart that are lasting 45 seconds to a minute apart for at least 30 minutes consistently. You are going to go into a triage area when you get to the hospital where they are going to put you on monitors to make sure that you are having that pattern I said above, and if you are not, they will send you home. So to avoid that runaround. Be patient, the baby will come.

Please follow the instructions given to you by your doctor / midwife regarding when to call and when to show up at the hospital. The above answer is good general information but as every woman is different, so is every labor.

How much is it to get otoplasty?

Typically otoplasty costs around £ 2000 in the United Kingdom. This assumes that it is performed under local anaesthetic and sedation. In such circumstances you are usually allowed home on the same day. This means that the hospitals costs are reduced and the savings can be passed on to you.

If you elect to have a general anaesthetic then your Plastic Surgeon may request that you stay overnight in hospital for observation. In these cases the cost can be anything from £ 2500 to £ 3000, depending on the hospital and Surgeon.

What do you do if iam being wrongfully accused of abuse to a patient in a nursing home?

You are in a tough position. Your reputation has a lot to do with perception of guilt here. Info from other patients of yours may help, the family of the patient in question or perhaps even the patient. I assume this has come from a fellow employee. If it has come from other than a fellow employee including the patient's family then you may use the testimony of co-workers to help you. A good past work record will help you but if there are issues there then this person's allegations may stick.
