The life expectancy really depends on what branch of the military you are in and what platoon you are in... Let's say if you are a marine, your average life expectancy is 1.5-2.5 years... Yeah, I know, it's low. And the army isn't much higher, it is about 3-4.5 years... I myself am going to be an Army Ranger, their life expectancy is good, but not great, it's around 5-7.5 years.

What is the ancient city name for Iraq?

There are several names that were used for the region long before the Arabic al-'Iraq (which forms the basis for the English "Iraq". The most common is Mesopotamia, which means "[the land] between two rivers". (Al-'Iraq has a similar meaning.)

Iraq was also named by the dominant civilization in the area. These include:

1) Endemic Civilizations: There were a number of ancient civilizations that had a strong presence in the region (and used it for its capital provinces) including Assyria, Babylonia, Chaldea, and Sumer.

2) Imperial Territory: Babylon marked a turning point after which most countries that occupied Iraq were entities that had their capital provinces elsewhere. The Persian Empire was the first such empire to conquer this area and add it to their territory. Following them, the Macedonian Greeks took control of the region, naming it Mesopotamia. The Macedonian Empire fell apart, making Iraq a battleground between the Syrian and Seleucid Greeks. Iraq eventually became part of the Roman and subsequent Byzantine Empire for some 500 years. Arab armies then conquered the area and brought the Arabic language and the Moslem religion to the region.

3) Abbassid Caliphate: During the 500 years of the Abbassid Caliphate, Baghdad, Iraq was the reigning capital and center of their empire. This is when the term al-'Iraq came into common usage as the name of the general region, but not of a political province.

4) Imperial Territory, round 2: Later the Ottoman Turks seized Mesopotamia and made it part of their empire. Next the British came and took Mesopotamia from the Turks durning World War I and helped the local leaders set up a government in 1921 called Iraq with King Faisal I as the first ruling monarch.

Why the british army are in Iraq?

Answer 1

Because it was too hard for Britain to watch the US stealing Iraq's oil without getting some.

Answer 2

Britain's Alliance with the United States is very important for both countries and the United Kingdom felt that it needed to join its American Allies in the invasion based on the strength of that Alliance. Blair also corroborated the Weapons of Mass Destruction charge that Bush brought up.

How long has the US been involved with Iraq?

well, i would say it started on march 19th 2003 president Obama plans to finish this war in the summer of 2010 in augast but something bad is going to happen afhter we defeat Iraq AFHGANISTAN is going to start fighting us until 2020 mabe because afhganistan thinks they are so strong cause they have alot of neuclear missles and atomic bombs so we can loase and die. So PRAY to GOD to say that WE WILL WIN.

The USA got into conflict in Irag during the Desert Shield Desert Storm 1990 invasion by Iraq into Kuwait. Its been a off and on war from then on. The attack on US soil 9/11 opened it up to where we are today. "Sadam asid it would be the mother of all wars"

This fight is not much unlike the Vietnam era from 1955-1975 how ever the Vietnam fighters did not bring their fight directly on to the United States soil as did Japan in WWII and the Islamist militant group knowen as al-Qaeda, in the Middle East countries.

Prayer is a good thing! Return to Gods moral teachings & laws will help too.

He was the first casualty of war in Iraq, it was later found that he was killed not by enemy fire but friendly fire. He was an orphan on the streets of Guatemala City who heard about America from the minister at a children's shelter; at the age of 14, by walking and jumping freight trains, he made his way to California, where he was brought up in foster homes. He joined the Marines to make money for college-and to send to a sister in Guatemala. "Pray for all of us, not just me," he wrote his foster mother on March 1.

Did they draft in the Iraq war?

Ever since the First Gulf War (1990), hardly a year goes by where we aren't inundated by rumors of re-instatement of a military draft. In December 2007, the Selective Service System announce that it plans to conduct a comprehensive test of the draft system sometime in 2009. This, coupled President Bush increasing our force size in Iraq, has caused a flurry of newspaper editorials, speculating about the possibility of a draft. The draft for the Iraq mission is not needing to be put in use.

Theres no doomsday prediction in that.

Was September 11 a cause of the Iraq War?

No there has never been a credible link made between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda. The 9/11 attacks where carried out by Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda and the majority of the hijackers, 15 of the 19 came from Saudi Arabia, none where Iraq citizens. Even George Bush said that in 2003: "No, we've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with September the 11th," Bush said. You can read the quote at http://www.seattlepi.com/national/140133_bushiraq18.html and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3119676.stm. Here is a quote from George Tenet: On April 29, 2007, former Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet said on 60 Minutes, "We could never verify that there was any Iraqi authority, direction and control, complicity with al-Qaeda for 9/11 or any operational act against America, period." You can read the entire interview at http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2007/04/30/snow/index.html. In fact Saddam Hussein never really liked al-Qaeda and the relationship was never overly positive. The official report of the 9/11 commissions says "Bin Ladin was also willing to explore possibilities for cooperation with Iraq, even though Iraq's dictator, Saddam Hussein, had never had an Islamist agenda---save for his opportunistic pose as a defender of the faithful against "Crusaders" during the Gulf War of 1991. Moreover, Bin Ladin had in fact been sponsoring anti-Saddam Islamists in Iraqi Kurdistan, and sought to attract them into his Islamic army." The full report is at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/911/pdf/fullreport.pdf. I think when George Bush and his Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet say there was no link and they were the man that decided to invade Iraq I think it is safe to say there is no link.

What is the ammo to kill ratio in Iraq?

As is "normal", figures will vary from year to year, and especially from source to source. But more often than not, the figures given closest to the date of occurrence appear to be the most accurate. During the early 1970's the figure of 3,000 rounds of small arms fire, per enemy casualty, was given. This had a profound effect on individual rifleman tactics. Shortly after these figures were accepted by the US Army, the M-16 rifle's full automatic switch was modified for short bursts. Until there is another change made, Vietnam will be the FIRST and LAST time in history in which the individual rifleman had "Rock an Roll" (full automatic capability).
