Open the boot lid and drivers door, and switch on the ignition. Rock the valet switch, in the centre console, 5 times. The system will chirp to indicate it has entered learning mode.

On models with seat/mirror/steering wheel memory functions, the first remote will be linked to memory 1, second to memory 2 etc.

Press the larger, lock, button of the remote. The system will chirp to confirm it has got the signal. If it doesn't receive any signals for 15 seconds, it will chirp twice and exit learn mode.

To programme further remotes, rock the valet switch once. The system will chirp twice for remote number two, three times for number three etc, then press the lock button of the remote as above.

When finish, wait 15 seconds for the system to time out and chirp twice, turn off the ignition, close the doors and boot lid and the job is done!

You can purchase a rebuilt diff for about $1000. Installation will take 4-8 hours. However, if the ring and pinion are in good shape you may only need to replace the output shaft bearings. 300-400 installed. JD

Fowled or faulty fuel injectors. Replace or repair.

Never easy on a Jag. Fault could be in following areas. 1. Module to light fitting wiring. There's a red/orange wire from the Left Front relay and Bulb Failure module (just behind the headlight to side of radiator) to the light fitting. With module output plug disconnected and foglight bulb fitted, ohm-meter between red/orange wire and car body, should be low resistance. If not, bad earth to foglamp or bad foglight fitting. 2. Relay and Fault Module. There's a red/orange wire into the Left Front relay and Bulb Failure module, you should see a change in elecrical state when the switch is operated similar to right hand module (same place other side of radiator). Alternatively and with electrics off, ohm-meter between red/orange input wires to left and right modules and look for low resistance. If not, broken wire between modules, strap another wire across. With input connected and electrics on, the output pin to red/orange wire to the light should be 12v (on) or 0(off). If not, suspect the module. Left/right modules are interchangable and can be swopped to see if the fault changes over.

Advance Auto Parts has a lot of Jag parts. I work there and have been surprised at how many I have found.

take of the inside door panel and check that the handle is not broken. It is common for the Lugs that hold the connecting rod to brake off so the handle looks ok but does not actually connect to the mechanism.

It means that either your EGR solenoid or EGR valve is bad. The EGR valve sometimes sticks open due to carbon build-up. This can be fixed by removing it and cleaning the valve piston with carburetor cleaner and a metal brush. The EGR valve could also have a bad diaphragm. You can check this by connecting a vacuum hand pump to the EGR valve and checking to see if the valve holds vacuum. If it does not, that means the diaphragm is ripped and the valve will need to be replaced. If neither of these seem to be the problem then you have a faulty EGR solenoid. EGR solenoid replacement is very simple and only takes about 5 minutes.

If its the 1994 XJ40 there are 2 nuts holding the tension on this system, the alternator is held in place by a threaded rod attached to the block (looking from the front its to the right of the alternator), loosen the nut on the open end of this rod and turn the inner nut until the required tension is reached and tighten the outer nut back up to secure it.

Yes most do you will see it raise up and down the leveler is on the passenger side near control arm!

Ignition timing and advances are all computer controlled (ignition amplifier and ECU)based on info from several sensors. No mechanical or vacuum advance at the distributor, and moving it will not change anything.

Simple, the relays are bad in the 88s-94s a blue relay was used for everything *those square blue cubes* you need to replace them with a new black one. The blue ones were not water tight allowing moisture in to corrode the wires. The new black ones are about 12 bucks a pop

They just didnt rename it when they put it into production. The similar XJ12 has a, you guessed it, 12 cylinder engine.

The code name for the 86-94 model was XJ40, followed by X300, X308, X350, etc.

All of these were known as XJ`s though the 6 was dropped with the X300 as it had an 8 cylinder engine.

First remove the plastic screw under the front of the armrest by turning it 1/4 turn, then pull the armrest cap (top of the armrest) towards the rear of the car. There are two screw heads that are indexed in the cap to hold it on. Next remove the square black cover under the door latch with a small screw driver, pry it off from the slot - gently - hten remove the screw underneath. Remove the three screws holder the top of the lower panel in place. After you remove the crew under the door latch you can pull the wood vanier panel toward the front of the car to remove - it has two metal clips that slide into the dorr to hold it on. Now you just have to gently pry around the edge of the lower panel to release the clips holding the lower panel on and your done. Be careful as to not put a strain on any wiring until you disconnect it. Oh, the top panel is held on by two screws then lifted off the top of the window seal and off the door lock. That should do it!!

You can buy a Haynes Manual from Advance Auto Parts or many other parts stores. Manual number is 49010 and covers 1968-1986, series 1,2 and 3. It answers many of the questions asked in this site.

to change the shocks on the rear of the jaguar XJ-6, you need a spring compressor. compress the spring, loosen the top mount plate from under side of car. drop the axle as far as you can. undo the top mounting, then the lower. the car will have to be raised far enough to allow the shock to be removed and the replacement installed.

the fuel tank crossover valve is located in the trunk area in the spare tire well the easiest thing to do is to get a t fitting and remove the valve and install the fitting instead of replacing the valve
