1994 Jeep Cherokee location of transmission dipstick?
Back near the fire wall on the passenger side Edit: Actually, it is located near the firewall, but not the passenger side. Its in the middle closer to the driver side. That is, if its the 5.2L. I'm not sure of other engine sizes.
What size tire can you put on a xj stock 15inch rim?
First, consider the dimensions of the wheelwell, plus the 'offset' and diameter of the rims which are to be installed. This determines which size tires are feasible to mount to the rims. 'Plus-sizing' can be tricky,so do some research before busting your butt finding out what works. Sorry I couldn't be a little more specific,it just kinda depends on what can fit. Lift kits increase the size 'big time',but you mentioned that the vehicle is stock. Inquire at tire service or speed shops as well. Good Luck!
Will a crank shaft sensor on a Jeep Cherokee cause it not to start?
yes you will lose pulse to the fuel injectors and fuel pump activation. common part to fail. the wires fray and brake near transmission.
Where is the evaporator core located on a Jeep Cherokee?
behind the dash on the passenger side. Not worth the hassle -- there are forums that teach you to change your air compressor for the AC into an air compressor - fill tires, rafts, beds etc! google it!
How do you remove the instrument panel on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
First, remove the NEGATIVE battery terminal from the battery.
Remove the two black screws at the bottom of the decorative panel beneath the steering wheel column. Remove the panel.
Remove the two black screws at the top of the metal shield beneath the steering column and remove the shield.
In the center of the dash, remove the trim panel around the radio and controls by pulling first at the bottom of the trim, carefully. Remove the top of the panel and remove the panel. There are clips at the top and bottom. Sometimes they stick or bend and may require a fair bit of force.
Remove the four black screws securing the right side of the dash trim panel. This will completely uncover the center outlet grills and the radio.
Pop the clips loose on the left side of the panel. Lower the steering column to its full down position. Remove the trim panel from around the headlight knob and remove the trim panel.
There are two screws on each side of the instrument cluster. Remove these. Carefully wiggle the cluster while pulling on it and it will come loose from the two connectors that plug into the rear side of it.
Reinstall by reversing the procedure being careful to align the two connectors on the rear and seating the cluster. Do Not Force. It should seat flush on the seats and not require the screws to do anything other than hold it in place. I personally recommend a shot of WD40 on the connectors before plugging the cluster back into the dash.
What size gas tank is in a 96 jeep Cherokee?
The gas tank holds 20.2 gallons.

What is the transmission fluid type for a 2002 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo?
I recently replaced the filter and gasket and drained and refilled my 2002 grand cherokee's tranny fluid and used Castrol brand transmission fluid. Pretty much any type that is recommended for GM vehicles will suffice.
You will need anywhere from 2 to 4 quarts, depending on whether or not you replace the filter (highly recommended if you plan to drain the fluid and remove the pan anyway). You can get the kits at any auto parts store for under $20 usually. I also recommend getting either the Haynes or Chalmer's (sp?) manual before you do any work on the Jeep since these manuals contain a great deal of helpful info.
I hope it turns out well.
V/r,
SSG Jaxx
any brand ATF+4 fluid NOT GM otherwise what the last guy said.
Mopar ATF+4
Dextron will cause erratic shifts and slips.
What are timing specs for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee 6 cylinder?
Timing on the 1990 4.0L / inline 6-cylinder engines are set & locked at factory and can only be changed by modifying parts... and modifying the parts is a BAD idea since you are masking a problem rather than solving it. You'll end up with a worse issue when you are done.
If you do have a timing issue it is either a stretched timing chain or sensor related.
Timing is controlled by the computer and is not adjustable. Computer timing is determined by finding TDC (top dead center) with the CKS (Crankshaft position sensor) and CPS (camshaft position sensor) but when either goes out you will generally have an engine that stalls intermittently or a 'no-start' condition.
If you are having trouble diagnosing the issues you can use the diagnostic help at:

Jeep Cherokee heater does not blow hot air?
with any no heat complaint the first thing to check is going to be the coolant level. then make sure the vehicle is reaching proper operating temperature and that the thermostat is not stuck open or anything. from there check and see if both of the heater hoses are getting hot, those are the coolant hoses going into the firewall towards the passenger side of the vehicle. if one is hot and the other is cold that means you have a restricted heater core. you can try to backflush the heater core by taking a garden hose and connecting through the outlet side of the heater core and spraying out the inlet side. if that does not work you will have to replace the heater core. hope that helps.
Where is heater valve located in 2001 grand jeep cherokee?
I could answer your question, and the others on here by telling you exactly where to locate the item you're looking for on your vehicle. But, I'm not. I believe in teaching someone to fish soo... go down to your local auto-parts store and buy the Haynes or Chilton book for your vehicle. Runs between 15 and 25 bucks and next to buying a OBD code reader, it's the most well spent money you'll ever spend on your vehicle.
The repair book not only tells you how to fix stuff on your vehicle, it also tells you WHERE stuff is... for the most part. And tells you how much fluid to add, and whether your mechanic is going to rip you off. Like my Jeep, it's fuel filter is life of vehicle and is therefor located IN the gas tank, but that doesn't stop Lube places from telling me I should change it. The book though, tells me to tell them to hit the road....

How do you reset or set factory alarm on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
Hey- I have the same question. I bought this 96 Cherokee and it has it's issues. I have no remote for the door locks and everytime I lock the doors I have to unlock the hatch before unlocking the other doors, otherwise the alarm will go off until I unlock the hatch. Now it has a new issue; twice this week the alarm has gone off. Once at 4am and the next time at 3am. It is not impossible that someone could have messed with my jeep...twice in a week...without success....but it is unlikely. However, it seemes just as unlikely that the alarm system is failing, while I am out of town and twice in a week and both at wee hours in the morning!?!? Any thoughts?? jenifre gmail.com
Does a 1995 Cherokee trailer hitch fit on a 1997 Cherokee se?
Yes. but be aware that towing capacity will depend on things such as suspension compontents and transmission oil cooler. A 97 fitted correctly could easily pull more weight than a 2001 Sport.
Because towing a trailer involves optional equipment over and above the hitch itself I recommend that you consult the dealer or a hitch specialist shop to make sure that what you want to tow is compatible with your vehicle. Usually a quote will be free. Yes the hitch fits on but be careful that you put it on all the way so your stuff doesnt fall off
How do you remove the radiator plug in a 2000 Grand Cherokee?
Sometimes the plug gets stuck pretty hard in the radiator and removal will damage the radiator. Just pull the lower rad hose and you will do the same thing.
Even though the Plug has a rib/tab down the middle making you think it is threaded into the radiator...in reality it is just a molded plug with rubber o-rings that pushes straight in and pulls straight out. So to remove it (although it is probably better to just remove the hose) just grasp the rib and pull straight out while maybe twisting back and forth.
Your 1999 jeep Cherokee sport has started dying while driving why?
Check the oxygen sensor. My 1995 Grand Cherokee stopped stalling while driving after it was replaced.
Where is the cigarette lighter fuse on a 1994 Jeep Cherokee?
Under the dashboard (drivers side) near plastic molding by the door. Pull the plastic cover off and the fuses for the radio and dome/courtesy lights are the blue ones at the bottom. I also had trouble with these devices as well as the power door locks. It wasn't the fuses, it was the fuse box and/or loose connections in the wiring going into it. wiggling the fuse block turned the radio and lights back on!
1996 jeep Cherokee throttle position sensor location?
It is located on the outside of the throttle body in line with the butterfly. Remove the air intake from the throttle body and it will be accessable on the back side of the throttle body. Easier to work on if you remove the throttle body. Easier to clean it too.
Why won't the car start after installing stereo?
You probably blew a fuse. Go through and check ALL of the fuses in the fuse box both in the inside of the car and in the engine bay. Alot of times fuses are tied into alot of things you wouldn't expect.
How much freon does your 2001 Jeep Cherokee hold?
There should be a sticker under the hood that gives you that info.
27 ounces
What type of oil is needed for a 1995 Jeep Cherokee rear diff?
The proper gear oil for a basic v8 is 75W-90 gear oil front and back. If you have the tow package with 3.73 gears then factory recommends you use 75W-110 however this is not totally necessary if you do very little towing. You will also want to use limited slip additive in the front axle and rear if you have the 249 transfer case (no 2WD option). If you have the 242 transfer case (selec-trac) then it is optional to place the additive in the rear axle but required in the front.
Which automatic transmissions came in 1999 Jeep Cherokee?
An Aisin/Warner AW4. Made by Toyota. Variants of this tranny are used in Landcruisers, Lexus, Supras.
What is the correct tire size for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic?
The factory had 2 possible tire sizes:
215/75R15 and 225/75R15
The largest ive seen without any rubbing (also the size i run on mine) are 235/75R15s
USE CAUTION WHEN DEVIATING FROM MAN SUGGESTED TIRE SIZE! I was in the tire business for several years, we saw A LOT of Jeeps come in with the wrong size tires on, and several of them had problems with the transfer case. It seemed that the Grand Cherokee was more prone to those issues, but several standard Cherokee's had the same problems.
