The Jeep Cherokee is a full-size SUV vehicle that came in two versions: the SJ model (1974 to 1983) and the XJ model (1984 to 2001). The chassis was based on the Jeep Wagoneer but had a 6.6-liter engine.

99 jeep Cherokee radio and power windows not working?

Check your fuses .... BUT most likely the problem is the wires that go through the DRIVERS door jamb (inside the black accordian looking thing) ... from opening and closing the door over the years, the wires break. I have a 2000 Cherokee and first the drivers door speaker went out (I ran a new wire to fix that) and then months later my power windows and the dash board lights stopped working .... I have not fixed mine yet so don't know if it is one wire or several. I read another post that says it is the ground wire but doesn't tell what color that is ... ?? .... I think it is more than one wire though since people don't all have the same EXACT problem (your windows and radio ... mine wndows and dash lights) .... Probably have to test each wire with a meter and then splice and run new wires through the door jamb to fix the broken ones.

How many oxygen sensors are there on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and where are they located?

On that model if you have a 4.0 inline six there are two.The first is located inside the engine bay on the driver side aprox. a foot after the exhaust pipe leaves the manifold. The second is under the pass. side of the truck in the exhaust pipe close to the ctalytic converter. If you have the v8 there is two on either side of the truck in just about the same locations as the other.Where the exh. pipe leaves manifold aprox. ten to twelve inches down. the other is under the truck close to the cat. conv. Remember the v8 model has two on either side of the truck. look for the big sparkplug looking thing with a wire coming out of it. Good luck.

How do you replace a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee's heater core?

The heater core in this vehicle is replaced by removaing the entire dash (which includes lowering or removing the steering wheel), removing the evaporator/heater case (a large, plastic box mounted against the firewall behind the dash, opening the case, removing the old heater core, installing the new one correctly and reversing the procedure. This procedure also involves interraction with the airbag system which is not only delicate, but potentially dangerous. I would highly suggest bringing this type of repair to a shop that specializes in A/C and heating work (generally not a general repair facility). P.S. Depending on milage, age, how long you plan on keeping your vehicle and your budget, you may want to have the A/C evaporator replaced at the same time, as replacement of the evaporator is also in this location and requires the same procedure. It would be a shame to have the evaporator fail (a common problem on Jeep Cherokees) at some point after having just paid to have this job done. Regardless of whether or not the evaporator is replaced, be sure to have whomever is doing the work to thoroughly clean the drain area while the case is out of the vehicle as this is another problem are on the Cherokees.

What is wrong with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee sport that just dies traveling down the road and will start up after a couple of minutes?

I would check the fuel system first, a clogged fuel filter will do this exact thing. The dirt in the tank will collect on the filter until no more fuel will pass through and then after the engine dies the debris falls back to the bottom of the tank then the whole cycle starts again.

Replace the crank position sensor, it's easy and is often the problem.

It could be the Oxygen Sensor. After your vehicle gets up to 600 deg. Your Heated Oxygen will cause your vehicle to run quite rough (bucking/ back firing) and or die.

If the rear brakes are drum brakes remove the wheel slide the drum off and check brake lining if brake lining is good then at the bottom of the brake assembly turn the adjuster wheel out. Over heating problem on 1995 Jeep Cherokee 4.0?

This is not a definitve answer, but I have heard that overheating is a common problem on early model Cherokees. I had the same issue with my 93 Cherokee Sport (4.0L, 4WD). I first made sure my coolant/water ratio was good. That wasn't the problem, though, so next, I had the radiator flushed and cleaned. That only worked for a couple of months. After that, I had a new radiator installed and changed the thermostat from a 210 to a 190. That seems to have worked reasonably well, but I still get occassional overheating in the summer on long steep grades or even on flat stretches if the airflow across the radiator is disturbed even a little bit, like following an 18-wheeler on the highway or driving in stop-and-go traffic around town.

Why does your jeep overheat only when towing your boat?

It requires more power on the part of your engine to pull a heavier load. When you are pulling a heavier load, your engine uses more gasoline and produces more heat. At that point it produces more heat than your radiator can get rid of. If you tow your boat a lot and will continue to do so, you may need to get a larger radiator. That way you can get rid of the excess heat. Also you can turn off your AC and open your windows when pulling your boat. That will also help. Make sure you are running 100% coolant and no water. Check your hoses. Sometimes a hose will close just a little bit. That will cause a mess.

Why are the dashboard gauges on 98 Jeep Cherokee working intermittently?

We have a 99 with the same problem. I've spoken with three others with the same problem. Gauges go out, come back on then go out for days at a time. When they do come back on, the fuel and odometer stay off. Great not knowing how much gas you have these days.

How do you replace a 1999 Jeep grand cherokee's heater core?

I would suggest replacing the heater core only if you have a puddle of coolant on the passenger side floorboard. More likely the problem is with the blend door not directing air through the core. This is a very common failure on the GC. Check the web site at heatertreater (.net) for diagnostic procedures and a cheap, easy fix.
