have one person sit in the truck and one person with their ear on the gas tank. have the person in the truck turn the key 2 clicks and listen for humming. if there is no humming fuel pumps not working

Some will. front end sheet metal is the same (up to 1996)(1997 and up will fit but different lines on fenders and header panel, grille etc, hoods are all the same) front doors from a 4dr will fit the Comanche. Front axles vary but will all bolt in, some are high pinion, regular pinion, CAD (vacuum actuated), solid axle, couple different hubs were used as well as brake parts depending on year (if swapping out front axle for a newer Cherokee axle, take whole thing, including the brakes, makes life easier). Rear axles will fit with some minor mods (spring perch relocation).

Have you changed the fuel filter in the last 100K miles? Put in new spark plugs in the last year? Is air cleaner dirty? Is the oxygen sensor working properly; is it's 'light' on? If so, repl. the O2 sensor on the exhaust under the drivers side. You have to have a computer reset the thing tho, so might as well have dealer do the O2 sensor,,,or at least ask what they charge for the laptop work.

Not much else it can be; dirty injectors,,,,put a bottle of injecter cleaner in the gas.

The Catalytic Converter is clogged and needs to be replaced........the hotter it gets the less power you have? rev the engine and very little comes out the tail pipe? Oil is leaking from the valve covers, the oil pan and so on its from the back pressure!!!

You can also check the fan clutch(locked up fan,no good)

This depends on year and transmission type.

Some have a integral Bell housing that would need to be cut off ( I have used a construction reciprocating saw for this)

Others have a Bell housing retained with four or more bolts, These are easy to remove once the transmission is removed from the vehicle.

1989 was a transition year for the 5 speed manual transmission with the phase out of the Pugeot BA 10/5 and introduction of the Aisin Warner AX15. One way to be sure is to get under the vehicle and look at the transmission identification tag. The tag or stamp can be found on the housing, if you have access to a Chiltons manual it shows a picture of the tag as well as identifiers for the transfer case on 4wd models. If your Comanche is an automatic it is an Aisin Warner AW4 four speed automatic. If it is a 4 speed manual it is also an Aisin Warner.

vacuum actuator is bad, there could be a hose that is missing, the hose might be weathered and cracked or cut, vacuum actuator might be all gummed up and crappy lookin on the inside, a simple cleaning might work, other then that a new actuator might be a need, not hard to install though

Its kind of annoying, first u gotta unscrew a few screws, generally a couple above your gauges and then a couple in lower places like near your headlights switch and near your 12v outlet. then u gotta pry it a bit until the dash pops out and pry it up on top of your steering column. this is where i had trouble. you then have to pop the shifter a few gears lower then park, or else it will block the dash from coming off. once you get it in 2-1 (what i had it in) you can then remove the dash fairly easily, with no damage to anything.

This answer is for the Inline 6 243 motor. Under the manifolds mounted right to the side of the block.

All you need to replace your pads on your 89 Comanche or a Cherokee is a 7mm Allen wrench and a large c-clamp. Preferably a 7mm Allen socket that way you can put your rachet on it. Use the Allen to take out the caliper bolts/Allen screws shafts. Then use c-clamp and old pad to press caliper back as far as it will go then replace pads and reassemble. However, it is recommended to have your rotors turned when changing pads. This is done at most shops. You take the rotors to the shop and they will turn them for you. The total job is really simple and takes about 30 minutes tops.

vacum motor on front left axle housing is bad. it moves a shift fork to engage the axle, there is a cable kit to replace the vacum motor available.

First remove the black battery cable from the battery then remove the red cable. If you need to locate the starter follow the red cable to it. Once you have located the starter there may be two or three wires/ cables to remove. Don't lose any nuts or washers. Once these have been disconnected and moved out of the way there are usually about two bolts or nuts or a combination of both that hold the starter in place. remove these. Then you will need to pull the starter out, be sure to watch for any metal shims that might be between the starter and the mount. These will need to be put back in place if there are any. Install in reverse order.

The Spark on a Jeep Comanche is caused by a single coil set up found mounted on the left side wheel well, the coil is electronically controlled, there is a single spark plug wire running from there to the center electrode on the distributor cap. then sent to the spark plugs from there. if your having problems with it, first check the spark plugs for correct gaping and cleanliness, the center insulator should be a light toasted brown color, then check the distributor and rotor for cracks, fractures, fatigue cracks or wear, corrosion, and moisture. if those do not fix your sparking problems. you can remove the coil and take it to your local auto parts store and have them check it to make sure its working. if you replace the coil, you should consider replacing the spark plug wires as well. unless you know that they are good.

The transmission control module should be located under the dash below the storage compartment that is located just below the glove box. Take the lower dash trim panel off, and It will either be attached to the trim panel, or located behind it. Either way, it's much easier to get to if you take off the lower panel.
