Short answer: Never. It doesn't have one.

Long answer: The engine 4.0L 6cyl uses a chain, and those are usually for the life of the engine. There is a very small chance that this chain fails. In this case it will probably produce a rattling noise before it cause problems.

There were several transmissions put into your Grand Cherokee and of course the model depends on whether its a manual shift or automatic.

You can find the part number stamped on the transmission itself if its an automatic. Look on the drivers side above the fluid pan gasket. On the manual its on a tag near the drain plug. The numbers will have the part number, build date and serial number and you can cross reference this number by calling the dealer.

There is an eyelet at one end, not a clip, how do I get that off. Should be clips at each end of struts- - slide them back and strut will come pop off of stationary pins I have a 1993 Jeep grand Cherokee i bought new struts from autozone about 20 bucks attached to the lift gate there are 2 screws and attached to the body by near the taillight there is a ball with a pin holding it on, pull the pin out then pull the strut off. the remove the screws attached to the lift gate. have a stick or something to hold up the lift gate when you are taking these off....

For one year only, in 1998 the Grand Cherokee Limited model was offered with a 5.9 liter V8. That is a 360 cubic inch engine that required high test gasoline. The average V8 was the 5.2 liter that was in a milder state of tune in the Grand Cherokees. The base engine was the 4.0 liter straight 6 cylinder. The current options are the 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8 and 5.7 (Hemi) V8 and a 3.0L V6 (diesel)

The ball joint is located on the front knuckle. There is one on the top and bottom of each side.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING Up to 4 Transmitter Identification Codes (TIC’s) can be programmed into receiver at any given time. 1) Open driver’s door of vehicle. Leave it open through the programming procedure. 2) Move mechanical door lock lever to the LOCK position. 3) Insert ignition key and turn it to RUN position. 4) Turn ignition to RUN position. Within 20 seconds, aim a transmitter at receiver dome and press lock button, for at least 5 seconds. Once receiver accepts programming code the driver’s door will unlock. 5) Once first transmitter has been programmed, additional transmitters (up to 4) may be programmed into receiver. Within 20 seconds of the previous transmitter programming, move the mechanical door lock lever to LOCK position. Aim another transmitter at receiver dome and press LOCK button for at least 5 seconds. The door lock will cycle again. 6) To lock the programmed codes into the receiver, the ignition must be turned off and back on within 20 seconds after programming the last transmitter’s code. At that time, all previous codes are erased from the module.

It is not a good idea to bypass the O2 sensor on any car . They use it for calibration of the fuel injection . If you bypass it you run serious risk of damaging your motor , by lean conditions that would create detination and eat pistons and valves . Or it could go very rich and the fuel economy will drop dramatically.

It's held by screws to the radiator mount. Don't try to run without it. You will overheat easily. Absolutely necessary,

There are four bolts. The left lower is very hard to access.

Talked to a mechanic and he said he DOES NOT remove the bolt. There is enough room to remove the old fan and install the new.

The cooling fan relay of the 2001 grand Cherokee is behind the front composite structure that hold the head lamp in place, specifically under the passenger side attached to the metal body, to get to it you will have to remove the front grill, then the head lamp assemblies then the front bumper fascia, then the composite structure that supported your head lamp assemblies, the front grill is held in place by 7 Phillips screws 4 on top 3 in the grill it self, the bumper fascia is held in place by 2 bolts or nuts securing it where the fascia meets the fender wells under the splash shield, this splash shield are held together with the bumper fascia by plastic rivets as well the bumper is held to the body in the front underside by 3 plastic rivets, once the bumper fascia is removed you get access to the screws or bots (Torx) that hold the composite structure to the bumper (Body) remove those and remove the 4 Torx (bolts or screws) that attach the composite structure to the metal frame that runs form side to side to which the hood latch is attached, pull the composite structure out of the way, paying special attention to the wiring of the head lamp assembly not to damage it, this wiring can be disconnected as well from the main harness, now on the passenger side behind where the composite structure was you will see the fan relay bolted to the metal body in the recessed area. Hope this helps is not difficult but it is tedious because of the location of the SPECIAL relay.

I have a 1998 XJ. The ECU is located in the engine compartment, toward the front, mounted on the driver side. It is a flat aluminum piece about 3/4 inch thick with three (I think) plugs on the side.

Rear shaft = 1/2 hr to pull the shaft & 1/2 hr to change each u-joint. Front wheel joints about 1.4 hrs per side Front shaft u-joints (non cv), 1/2 hr to pull the shaft & 1/2 per u-joint These are approx times only

You might need to replace your PCM (Powertrain Control Module)

Especially if your Jeep spudders, shuts off and tries to gas itself when your pressing the brake. That is what happened to my Jeep and a new PCM fixed it.

when you open the hood of your 1991 Jeep cherokee, look at the right side fender( drivers side) you will see a black box mounted to the fender well behing and next to the air box,. that is the Electronic Control Module ( ECM). I hope this helps.

I believe the filter is near the fuel tank probably on the fill side of the tank??? It is a metal cannister typoe and be sure not too pull it until the vehicle sets overnite, open the fuel cap and pull the fuel pump fuse red 10 amp. if you are not sure . donot turn on the key when doing this job fuel sprays under pressure once you open the lines if you do turn on the key!!! could have an injury to yourself or worse!!

How do I change a headlight bulb on a 1998 jeep grand cherokee?

are yu speking of the door panel on the outside of the door like down at the bottom portion of the door? if so there are clips that hold that on , if you grab the panel at the very bottom and slide it up the door (wont move far) then you should be able to lift it off the clips. good luck

I had a similar problem , try cleaning out your stepper motor (idle control valve) Located on the side of your throttle body , there is a suitable spray you can buy from the auto shops that will clean it

the sending unit is nothing more than a float in the gas tank. Check in the trunk first and see if you can access the sender from there. you will have to pull the carpet up. If you can,you should be able to disconect the electical plug-in sending info the the gauge. try that. It can only be the sending unit or the gauge itself. I would start by pulling the power to each one.

This indicates that you have a malfunctioning oxygen sensor. Take your jeep to one of the name brand auto parts store and they will have a reader that will verify this and sell you a new sensor. That will most likely take care of the problem.

Hey Bo== It should be under the hood, against the firewall on the passanger side at the botttom of the evaporator case.Be careful unstopping it as the evaporator is just above the case and can be punctured. GoodluckJoe I dont know about the '96 but I just spent a couple of days cleaning and surfing the net to determine the best options availiable. As it turns out the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C drain dumps into the frame rail. If you look up under the frame rail the discharge is coming (or supposed to) out of the first large (1/2 x 1) slotted hole. I was lucky and only had to flush that area out with the hose and it fixed my problem - so far. From what I have read in the last couple of days it could have been a whole lot worse. If the cleaning poking and prodding hadnt worked I was going to drill the 1/4 inch hole in the cab side duct (vertical face of the circular area just above your feet and approx in the middle of the duict. - the drain is supposed to go away and down from this location and into the frame rail) and use a coat hanger to see if I could feel a blockage. If that didnt work- God Forbid - it was going to have to be the disassembly of the interior to remove the A/C assembly. From what I read it a 6-18 hour job depending on your luck. Some posters even suggest that that is a good time to buy another truck. I think I may have givin that some serious consideration had it come that far. Don't know about a 96 but on my 95 it is under the dash on passenger side floorboard. You have to pull up the carpet and padding, on the vertical rise part of the floor board you will see a plug in the middle of a small black cylinder part of the duct work that comes through a circular cut out in the floorboard. Pull that plug out and get a long wire and run it in the hole, several times. The drain hole runs into the frame rail of the jeep, you can't reach it from the bottom. You will have to seal the plug, get a new one, or make one(I cut off a section of a pencil and epoxied it) to reseal the duct work. I drilled two holes in the floor board to make sure it stays dry because it still condensates some on the duct work, it gets a little bit of condensation on the floorboard still but the carpet and padding stays dry. http://home.sc.rr.com/janet/TSB/24-06-96.htm Look on the pass side of the car against the firewall and there should be a hole or indentation in the evaporator case, Be careful cleaning it out as the evaporator is about 1 inch above this case and can be damaged with a sharp instrument.

Most factory remotes have to be programmed into the vehicles computer by the dealership, and cost a fair amount to have done - something about security...

This truck is built exactly like GM vehicles in the collumn, It has A self cancel cam inside the collumn just below the steering wheel, Take the steering wheel off and remove the wheel lock mechanism, If you study the design you can figure out how it works,,, most parts stores have the parts you need IN STOCK, But they may not know it, most of the time the part you need to fix this is in the HELP SECTION out on sales floor,,,,,, Good luck, Jamison.
