Job Interviews

The first, and often only, chance to make a great face-to-face impression and put yourself ahead of other candidates is the job interview. Ask questions for help with dealing with tough questions and for suggestions on how to make a good first impression.

10,659 Questions

'When did you show good leadership'?

I showed good leadership when I tried to help everyone.

'Why Should I Hire You?

This is a common question asked during job interviews of potential candidates. Following are typical decent responses. You should prepare for this question by doing research on precisely what it is the company from whom you are seeking employment actually does, and you should have ideas on how you personally might help improve their profitability. Corporations exist first and foremost to make profit.

Because I am confident I have the skills you need, and can improve these skills or acquire what additional skills I need to contribute to your company's success. I know I am a good match for the qualifications you described. I am excited about this opportunity and am interested in doing (or learning to do) this work. I really want this job, and I will work very hard.

I am eager to demonstrate what I can do. This question is a question that will change based on the person and the job. Some people are very friendly and can help with customer service, some are very good with money and would make a good financial adviser.

'In what ways can you can prove to be an asset to our company' - How do you respond to a question like this in a job interview?

To answer this question first of all you need to have the knowledge of the current market scenario.... for example supposedly if you are working in an affluent company with the acronym of finance related manager your task is to increase the revenue for the firm and in order to do this all you need to have is knowledge of market....like share market...and you"ll invest in it to make it threefold.....and be sure about what you say during your interviews!!! They will select on the basis of only what profits can you bring in for the company....Nothing else so please have General knowledge of market... Answer: If you know your strengths in sales or whatever, then you can capitalize on that. When I was in sales I emphasized my ability to work with all kinds of people and solve problems. You might write down a bunch of questions you think you will be asked and make out answers ahead of time for them to give yourself an edge, so you don't have to think of the answer on the spur of the moment. If you are having trouble getting the right questions, network with people you know for ideas.

'what do you dislike to do?

huh...i almost dislike everything which is not of my choice....i dislike to do home works and dislike to get up early in the morning for school!!

  11. Jesus lists the "ten commandments," but his list has only six, and the sixth is not one of the ten. The commandments given by Jesus are secular, not religious, in nature. 19:18
  12. Jesus quotes Lev.19:18: "Love thy neighbor as thyself." This is by far the best verse in Leviticus, and one of the best in the entire bible. 22:39
  13. "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in." 25:35
  14. "All they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." 26:52
Mark
  1. When Jesus lists the "ten" commandments, he only mentions five -- the humanistic ones that make no mention of God. He also gives one that is not included in the so-called ten commandments: "defraud not." Just where he got this one is anyone's guess. 10:19
  2. "Love thy neighbor as thyself." 12:31
Luke
  1. Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely. 3:14
  2. Love you enemies; do good to those who hate you. 6:27
  3. The Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. 6:31-34
  4. "Love your enemies." Well, it's a nice thought. But it seems strange coming from someone who damns his enemies to hell. (Mk.16:16) 6:35
  5. "Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." Well I'm glad Jesus thinks we should be merciful. But the Old Testament God is a strange role model for mercy! (See 1 Sam.15:2-3 for an example of the OT God's mercy.) 6:36
  6. Don't judge or condemn others. Forgive those who have offended you. 6:37
  7. Jesus warns against hypocrisy. The Christian right should pay more attention to this verse. 6:41
  8. Love thy neighbor as thyself. 10:27
  9. The story of the good Samaritan gets my vote for the best bible story. We should all "go and do likewise." 10:30-37
  10. From his comments on the widow's mites, it appears that Jesus, contrary to today's Christian right, favored progressive taxation. 21:1-3
John
  1. Jesus tells those who'd like to stone to death an adulteress that whoever among them that is without sin should "cast the first stone." Good advice -- but it directly contradicts the teachings of the Old Testament (Lev.20:20). If that wasn't a good law then why did God make it? Has he since changed his mind? Shouldn't it then be removed (along with most of the OT) from the bible? 8:7
  2. "The truth shall make you free." 8:32
  3. "Love one another." 13:34
  4. "This is my commandment, That ye love one another." If this is what it takes to be a Christian, then count me in. Unfortunately, Christians often take Jesus' commandment to mean that Christians should love other, like minded, Christians, and to hell with everybody else. 15:12, 17
  5. Pilate asked Jesus a very good question: "What is truth?" 18:38
Acts
  1. It's better to give than to receive. (Jesus didn't say it, but it's a nice thought anyway.) 20:35

1 Timothy
  1. "Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies." If we follow this advice we would ignore most of the Bible -- especially the genealogies found in Gen.10, 1 Chr.1-9, Mt.1, and Lk.3. 1:4
  2. Paul says to "refuse ... old wives' fables." What about old husbands' fables? Old Bible fables? 4:7
  3. "We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out." 6:7
2 Timothy
  1. Be gentle and patient with all others. 2:24
Titus

'reason for leaving' relocate?

You could say you had a family emergency, or needed something more challenging or closer to home. The best choice is always to be truthful even if the facts do not present the best view of the applicant without giving many details if you left for a personal reason that you don't want to discuss in great length.

Is it a good idea to keep calling if you haven't been formally rejected and the job is still open?

NO! First of all you must ask yourself why you haven't been formally rejected? The answer to this question should be, you should have been formally rejected. The lack of a formal rejection is not an indication of contempt for you, but on the other hand could be an oversight, but this is highly unlikely; i would be inclined to see it as a willful disregard for you. This is especially the case if the job is still open; wouldn't you feel demeaned and degraded when not having been formally rejected after being interviewed and told job offer would close before time you notice job offer is still open. You should not contact them again once this happens, this type of treatment is inexcusable and abhorrent; you must have proper respect for yourself and not allow people to treat you this way, there are many job offers open. Don't give them the satisfaction of treating you slightingly, they are of no greater human value than you. As i have said there may have been an oversight such as lost or misplaced application if the organization is a large one, but if its a small one then this i would say is not the case. With small organization emolyers handle the recruitment side of things whereas with larger organizations this function is delegated, allowing for the possibility of misadministration.

Please if you decide to accept the conclusion that the employer has shown willful disregard then forget about it and don't let them let you feel worthless, otherwise they have won. You must have limits which you must not let them cross, and if crossed then you must wave goodbye to them even if this means you losing out on an appealing job eventually. AS i said and shall repeat your dignity is of critical value.

What is the most difficult part of being a supervisor?

I was having a conversation with someone today about being a manager. Being a manager is one of those things that everybody thinks is really easy but in reality is never as easy as you really think it is. There are a lot of challenges most people just can't deal with.

Now, I'll be the first to say that if you have the right attitude and mindset it can be a relatively easy job. You see, managers don't really do anything. There, I've said it. In the end, they are responsible for the work of others and generally don't produce anything concrete themselves. Now that may sound nice and easy, but it has its own very difficult challenges. The hardest part is dealing with the people themselves.

In a perfect world, people would just do what you tell them to do, do it well, and do it without complaint. But the world is never perfect. In fact, more often then not people are going to fall short in one of those three areas and you are going to have to deal with it. Now here is the hard part, how do you deal with it? If you are like most people, you want to be liked. Humans have this desire to be liked by other people. However, all good managers at some point have to be tough. Either someone is going to screw up, and you are going to have to tell them they screwed up, or you are going to have to tell someone something they don't want to hear. Perhaps they are behind schedule on a key project or you can't give them the promotion or the position they want. Whatever the case may be, most people do not want to be the bearer of bad news.

I've learned to deal with it in a relatively easy way. I've just accepted that work is not a popularity contest, it's work. If people decide they don't like me because I had to tell them something they didn't want to hear or make them do something that they didn't want to do so be it. I've made plenty of friends in my life and a few people not liking me is OK. That doesn't mean I'm a jerk at work, I hate those guys as well, but at work, I do what I have to do to get the job done. Most people accept that and even respect that. In fact, I have found that most people hate those managers who go to the other extreme, try to please everybody. In the end, when you try to please everybody you please nobody. So long as you are consistent in your message, and people know you are working toward the good of the company or the team, things seem to just work themselves out.

What quality do you like most yourself and why?

Hm, I like the fact I'm smart in a not bragging way, I'm kind, affectionate (but knows when to give others space) caring , um I pray lots, so um, something like all that #^_^# also...umm, I LUV WAFFLES!

Answer:

Not being familiar with this type of question, I had to think about it for a bit. What I came up with was this: I like that I can look at most situations objectively, that I can see most sides of every situation and can usually cut through the BS (pardon, but I am not sure of a better descriptor). I am also fond of my ability to facilitate. That is I can examine most problems and come up with at least suggestions for solutions. I believe I inherited this ability (nurture not so much nature) from my father and grandfather, who were the original MacGyvers; they could take anything broken and with wire, bubblegum, and a swatch of duct tape repair it better than when it came off the factory floor. I'm nowhere near as mechanical as they, but I excel at the same ability with less concrete applications.

Oh, and I love waffles too.

What would you say are your main qualities?

My main qualities include adaptability, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning. I thrive in dynamic environments, allowing me to adjust to new challenges effectively. My ability to convey ideas clearly fosters collaboration and understanding, while my dedication to learning ensures I stay informed and relevant in my field.
