Where do you put the oil in a 2004 Kia Optima?

After you drain all of the old oil (remove the oil plug in the pan and replace the oil filter) all you have to do is remove the oil cap and pour the oil in there (although, make sure you've screwed the oil plug back in the oil pan). The car will probably need about 4 quarts (one gallon) of oil in it. Then check the dipstick to see if it's full or not. A bad catalytic converter and stopped up muffler will slow down the car. The catalytic converter is under warranty up to 84,000 miles, if defective. If you ran over a speed bump and damaged it, you have to replace it. You can buy a lower catalytic converter for $120 from advance auto parts.

all kia have a default timing connector you must disconnect if you want to check timing, called base timing connector.some are inside passenger floorside others are inside hood along firewall.this sets the base timing, remember electronic timing is set with with a combination of crank position sensor, timing sensor, knock sensor, and if they are working correctly then it is hooked to a computer for tweeking to get the proper results. the days of the old timing light are basically gone, but i still use it to verify what the computer is telling the engine when to fire.

How do you remove a headlight on a Kia Optima?

answer

  • Open the hood of your Optima. Use the support rod to hold the hood up out of your way. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery with a wrench, and secure the cable away from the terminal.

  • Remove the three retaining bolts from the headlight assembly using a socket and ratchet. The 2007 Kia Optima headlight assembly is secured with two bolts in front of the assembly near the grille area and one bolt just inside the engine compartment on the outer edge.

  • Pull the headlight assembly forward and disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the light. Press down on the retaining clip and pull out to remove the wiring harness from your Optima's headlight.

  • Pull the headlight assembly free of the front of the car. Insert the new headlight assembly and push the wiring harness straight into the connector.

  • Replace the mounting bolts and tighten them securely with a socket and ratchet. Repeat the process on the opposite side of the car if necessary.

  • Reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten the connection with a wrench. Close the hood and test the lights to be sure they are working properly.

Spark plug change on 2002 Optima 6 cylinder Mechanic telling girlfriend will cost 500 Not true is it?

Unfortunately, there are several vehicles (quite a few of them are imports and even a couple domestic) that require removal of the engine to change the plugs. If yours is one, yea, that would be a realistic price. The intake plenium will need to be removed to gain access to the rear three sparkplugs. This is a job that requires some automotive repair skills, about on-par with changing a starter. There is a bent steel gasket that goes between the intake manifold and the plenium, it must be replaced. You can find it a the kia dealership, or Hyundai's parts department has them also, as the Sonata 2.7 V6 uses this part also. Be sure to use premium platinum sparkplugs! Standard plugs will wear out quickly and require this process to be repeated. The sparkplug wires should be replaced when changing the plugs. They cannot be changed without pulling the plenium either. I paid $23. for the gasket, $68. for the plugs and $60. for the wires in March of 08. It took just under two hours from when I popped the hood to when I washed my hands, working at a very leisurly pace. Good luck! SJMCDO

What type of automatic transmission fluid does a 2003 Kia Spectra take?

There is some confusion on what fluid to use in the 2003 KIA Spectra. The correct fluid is Special Lubricant Fluid (SLF). Do not use Dexron or any other fluid. Go to your local KIA dealer and purchase the fluid or have them change the transmission fluid. Using any other fluid may harm your transmission.
