What is the TPS on a Mazda Miata?

The TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor. You can research additional information on a TPS as it is a very general automotive item, but it is mounted with 2 Phillips head screws on the side of the Throttle Body, which is in front of the intake manifold.

The Intake Manifold is the large, cast metal piece on the passenger side of the engine. The Throttle Body is the mechanical piece with the spring-like mechanism between the intake manifold and your black, plastic cross-over pipe.

The TPS is the small, electronic device mounted on the opposite side of the spring mechanism.

These will fail over time and in Miatas, typically exhibit the feeling of fuel cut or instantaneous loss of power while driving.

This information refers to 1990-2005 Miatas.

How do you put gas in a Mazda miata?

  • Open center console
  • Lift gas cap release, so the gas lid will pop up.
  • Unscrew gas cap.
  • Pump fuel
  • Make sure to tighten the gas cap securely. Miatas are sensitive to this and air leaks will raise a Check Engine Light.

Why does my 1999 Mazda miata engine will not start when battery is OK engine turns over and there is plenty of gas?

If the engine turns over, but does not fire up, either no fuel is being sent, or there is no spark to ignite the fuel.

For fuel, it is easy enough to try and start the car. Then remove the spark plugs to see if they are dry. If the car is injecting fuel, you will smell it.

If there is no spark, the coilpack at the rear of the car may be dead. However, that all coils are dead would is rare. More likely, either your camshaft position sensor or crank angle sensors need to be replaced. They monitor rotation of engine parts and tell the ECU when to fire. On a 99, the Camshaft Position sensor is at the top of the engine. See below for related links. It is held by a single 10mm bolt. The Crank Angle sensor is at the bottom of the engine to the right of the main crank pulley.

How do you repair horn 1994 miata?

Looking directly at the engine bay from the front of the car, the horn is located to the left of the hood lock mechanism by about 8", held by a single bolt. It is connected by a single wire that slides on to provide power. It is grounded by the bolt that connects it to the chassis of the car.

1. Check the fuse for the horn. It will be in the fusebox in the engine bay. The diagram should be on the lid.

2. Check the horn. You can do this by simply connecting a small wire directly from the positive battery terminal or power source to the connection point on the horn. Warning that it may honk!

3. Check the relay. If you look at your Master Brake Cylinder (the clearish cylinder with tan fluid in it), then look directly to the right on the fender, you should see a set of relays. Some people have a helper honk the horn while they listen for a click for the relay to engage. If the sound is too soft, you can use an ohm-meter to monitor for a power difference.

4. A final option may be the horn button underneath the steering wheel, but I'm not particularly familiar with that area.

I have a 96 miata Mazda won't start?

The first step to getting a good answer is to ask a good question. How do you make food? That is not a great question. At what temperature and for how long should I bake a two layer birthday cake? That is a much better question (if you want an answer). So back to your question, here's an example of how your question might have have been better written: My 96 Miata cranks but will not start. The "check engine" light comes on with the key, and everything sounds normal but the engine simply won't start. The car has 125k miles but has not had any major service in the last 3 years. The car was running perfectly until I tried to start it this morning. The car does seem to be cranking rather fast. Anyone have any ideas? [broken t-belt!] So ask a better question and you might get some good answers... or get it towed to a good shop.

You lower your miata with spring and adjustable shocks sway bars and all new ball joints but it still feels loose what else could it be?

I assume you watch NASCAR when you say it feels 'loose' meaning oversteery am I correct? I'm an aspiring auto engineer and I'd say that it's most likely the rear antiroll bar is far stiffer than the front. I assume the alignment is good considering you've lowered it, but you should check that if it's not the antiroll bars. slight toe out at the rear can cause instability, slight toe in about .5 degree aids stability. Also, chassis parts like subframe connecters and shock tower braces can make a big difference if it feels like the car is slightly flexing in corners. If you run stiff springs on a flexy convertible chassis, the suspension can't work to it's full potential. Not to say miatas have a bad chassis it's great, but it is a convertible so chassis parts make much more of a difference than in coupes. to sum it up: if it's oversteering, first check the antiroll bars, then alignment. If your just feeling the flexing, shock tower bars and or subframe connecters should make a noticeable improvement
