dome light switch is bad. these are in the body. open the door, and look down on the lower rear corner. there will be a rubber boot cover. they are a bit cranky to change, because the wire doesnt have much slack

on a 1996 m.m. you open the trunk ...take the interior lining that is blocking the back of the lights off.....remove a few screws....push out and youll se that theres two clips on the outside ,unclip done!....now on the trunk there are four nuts to remove , and presto done.....please keep in mind that the lights have wires to disconnect..mess em up and your in trouble

You just discovered how inconvenient it is to lose all power for some unknown reason out of the blue. But to answer your question - no, you do not need to replace the engine. It is not a interference motor. Meaning that the valves will not hit the piston tops as the valve train freewheels because the timing belt broke. Congratulation for diagnosing the problem, it took me a while before I figured it out when it happened to me - on a Toyota cressida.

If you have a timing belt it is a good idea to replace it when scheduled or u risk being stuck out who knows where. If the motor happens to be an interference motor - you will have had major engine damage, cannot be avoided. If it is a non-interference motor (There are reference books that will need you VIN number to say exactly what stock motor you have in the vehicle), there is a slight chance you might have damaged it, but more often than not it is just the inconvenience of the whole issue. Beware that some service shops will mislead you to scare you into a expensive service. I have assumed that we are talking about a 2.3 liter supercharged motor in your Millenia. The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing at the engine side end of the upper radiator hose. You have to drain the engine coolant from the radiator until it is below the level of where the thermostat is. Make sure you don't spill any coolant, or you clean it up if you do. Antifreeze tastes sweet. Dogs, cats and other animals are very attracted to it. It is fatal when they drink it. For us, too. 2.3L engine: You should remove the charge air duct, air filter housing and resonator. Then take off the two thermostat housing bolts, open the housing and pull the thermostat. 2.5L engine: remove the hose mounting bolt and separate the pipe from the outlet housing. You'll find an O-ring between the hose and the housing. You need to replace that one with a new one. Remember to buy one before you start. The engine harness bracket bolt now has to be taken off, then put the wire harness out of the way. Take off the housing bolt, remove the housing cover, the thermostat as well as the gasket (remember to buy a new one before you start). Before you put in the new thermostat, make sure the surfaces of both parts of the thermostat housing are very clean. On putting in the new thermostat, the side where the spring is must point towards the engine; jiggle pin must face in the direction of the radiator. Some models have a tab on the thermostat that fits into a notch at the housing. 2.5L engine: Use a new gasket. Its projection should point in the flow direction of the radiator. Put the housing cover back. Apply the lower bolt first, but don't tighten it yet. Fix the engine harness bracket, but leave the bolt loose. Now tighten both bolts to 14-19 ft.lbs. Put the new O-ring between the pipe and the housing. To avoid damage to the 0-ring, make it wet with some coolant. Tighten the hose mounting bolt to 14-19 ft.lbs. 2.3L engine: Close the housing-thermostat assembly and tighten both bolts to 14-18 ft.lbs. Put back the resonator, air filter housing and charge air duct. 2.5L & 2.3L engine: Fill cooling system. Apply answer to "How do you bleed the coolant for a 1998 Mazda Millenia." This will prevent bad and costly surprises of an incompletely filled cooling system. Make sure there are no leaks.

you need a diagram. any place that sells belts will be able to print out the diagram. you also have to relieve the tension on the auto tensioner, and that sucker is pretty strong. a box end might do it, if you have a good arm. i dont, so i have a special tool that has a 2 ft extension. i also pull the motor mount for extra clearance. however, to do that, you also gotta pull the right wheel and splash shield, and support the engine.

big job. the black plastic cover has to come off, so a lot of stuff comes off to gain access. you may as well change the timing belt and all other components at the same time. i have never done it on a 2.5, but on the 2.3 i also pull the motor mount and the upper radiator hose to gain access. you will have to pull the upper hose anyway, and on a 2.3 the belt tensioners are mondo, it is really difficult to release the tension with just a box wrench, i have a special belt tool that has a 2 foot extender for leverage. lower splash shield has to come off, engine has to be supported, right wheel comes off, yada, yada. again, on the 2.5 it is way easier than on the 2.3

The timing is easily adjusted but i would still only recommend having this fixed by a qualified mechanic.

the knocking may be created by the piston hitting the closing or opening inlet/outlet valves on the way back up.

this can cause severe damage to the engine as the valves could potentially bore through the piston resulting in possible damage to the piston walls as it slowly starts grinding its way through them.

If the Oil pump is damaged the I would have this fixed immediately as no oil would be lubricating the crank case or any other parts of the engine.

this can result with a broken crank case, piston wall, piston or other moving parts inside the engine and can shred the whole thing to bits.

this would also have to be seen to as soon as possible unless theres a grinding noise by now in which case it might already be too late.

i would check the timing belt tensioner. the other answers are really far fetched

There are three huge bolts covered with a trip peace rising out of the rear deck, the middle of which rotates. Pry the trim of the bolts to expose the head of the bolts. Use a wrench to remove the bolts. Using a flat blade screwdriver, gently pry up the housing for the rear shelf brake light to release the clips. Disconnect the wire to the bult and remove the brake light housing. Bend the rear seats forward and remove the two clips that hold the front of the rear deck to frame of the car. Lift up the rear deck gently to break loose the clips that hold the rear shelf to the horizontal frame: you will need to go into the trunk and squeeze on these clips to help it come through the hole. When the cardboard shelf clears the frame, slide it forward to expose the speakers. Remove the stock speakers (which by the way, are a piece of junk, Mazda and all auto manufactures should be ashamed) and install your new speakers. Replace rear shelf and brake light housing and enjoy.

MAP sensor lives on a bracket right behind the passenger side upper strut mount. the sensor itself is on the edge of the bracket, right next to the power steering fluid resevoir. it will have a 2 wire connector on it, and a vacuum line

29s here the TCS button (traction control system) is for you to enable or disable the computer controlled slip-differental or simply put the thing that senses if one of the drive wheels are spinning faster than the other(usually do to the other wheel slipping). the system when engauged will slow the other wheel or wheels down to match the slow so that you dont get an sliding affect (most noticable in snow and ice). if the light is on and you cant turn it off by pressing the button it usually means that your vehicle sensed a problem somewhere in that system during its pre-ignition check and it will automatically disable it to prevent a malfunction. as for possible causes pherhaps a speed sensor malfunction or internal trans problem a diagnostic would be ness to determine or you could try reseting your cars memory by removing your battery cables for a few minutes. beware some cars have a self locking radio that will require a code to unlock.

The TCS light sometimes comes on for an unrelated vacuum leak. It is a quirk in the system. Unfortunately locating the vacuum leak can be very difficult - fixing it is easy once located.
