For a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer ( 5.0 liter V8 )

( there are a total of 4 oxygen sensors , 2 sensors that are used with the PCM to adjust the fuel ratio that are nearest the engine on both sides , and 2 sensors that are also called catalyst monitors because they are in the exhaust after the catalytic converters ( downstream sensors )

On the passenger side of the engine in a Mercury Mountaineer ( Bank 1 ) Sensor 1 ( upstream sensor ) and Sensor 2 ( downstream sensor )

On the drivers side ( Bank 2 )

If it's like the 2003, it won't have one because it is a sealed system. Ford thinks the transmission fluid they use will last forever..LOL, or they want the transmission to fail so you will have to pay BIG $$$ for a repair.

You can check the fluid level using the check/fill plug located on the drivers side of the transmission. It is the smaller of the 2 plugs (larger one is the drain plug).

Replace the transfer case , had same problem and that's what it was.

Take it to an authorized dealer parts department , along with proof of ownership, and they can make you the extra kep. I was told it is best to make a third key and keep it in your lockbox with title, and you won't need to have all the ownership issues to make a replacement again.

It's really simple Just like any other car or truck. I replaced my original battery. you disconnect the terminals then the cover over the battery comes off.There should be a little nut around the bottom somewhere which holds the battery cover on take the bolt out then pull the cover off then there ya go pull the old battery out put new one in.

we have a 97 and the code is in the on right side in the back. But we went the dealers and they did it for us and it was about 20.00 the key is higher so we had one made at walmart but it will not open the doors but it will start it.

It should be on the driver's side of the dash near the bottom. It might have a cover over it.

You need a transmission or gear shifter repair. The only reason for it to roll is that it is not actually engaged in the park position.

If have a 2003 and it might be in the same place. It is located behind the right rear panel the the truck space. First you pull off the RR seat belt panel then pull back the lower panel. You will see a green plug and the computer module is right below it. There should the a sticker with your five digit code. It all snaps back in place. My local Mercury dealer wanted $42.50 for this info. Good luck.
