Mercury Mountaineer

Never changed one on a Mountaineer but have chnged them on several other vehicles. Follow the upper radiator hose to where it connects to the gooseneck which is held to the engine with two bolts (usually). After draining the radiator and removing the upper radiator hose from the gooseneck, remove the bolts from the gooseneck and the thermostat should be just underneath. The gooseneck is also called the thermostat housing.

The computer needs to be reset for the transmission its around $250 but will resolve the issue.

I'm assuming it would be in the same location as on a 1999 Ford Explorer - under the vehicle , below the drivers door , mounted in the frame rail

The starter on a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer is located on the passenger side of the engine. It is down low, almost underneath the motor.

It will usually tell you on the transmission's dip stick handle but I also have a98 Mountaineer AWD V-8 and it uses Mercon V

I'm having the same problem. 98 Mountaineer. I think it's wheel bearing or possibly c/v joint. it sounds like a shredding almost, or grinding noise + squeak in the driver side front wheel hub.

Only if the valve stem is bad.

3.55s were standard for the Mountaineer, with the option to have 3.70s. A Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer can tell you by the VIN number which it came with.

The 1998 Mercury power window relay switch can be found below the dashboard. The relay switch will be on the drivers side of the dashboard.

The code is usually on a label inside of one of the Trunk Lift Rods. Some owners write it in the Owner's Manual and there is sometimes a Card in the Owners Manual with the Code on it. If it's not in any of these places you will need to go to a Dealership to get the Master Code. Good Luck.

the 02 sencers are in the pipe, if there is a problem with them it would cause the check engine light to come on but the pipes themselves wouldn't

I think you mean front wheel drive, it is true there will be more wear on the front tires than on a rear wheel drive. That's why wheel rotation is important. As for vibration, that's far more likely to be wheels requiring balancing than because its front wheel drive.

I believe so , it has the same firing order as the High Output
