Mercury Mountaineer

It's a defect with most Explorers and Mountaineers from 2002 to 2006. There was a maintenance recall in 2004 for 2002-2004 models. The factory put the wrong transmission fluid in the sealed case. Anyway, if you havent went back to the dealership and had it looked at, it will cause all types of problems in the immediate future.

using a 1/2 socket or box wrench,take the 2 screws off of the back of the brake caliper remove it(don't let it hang form the hose) and pull the pads off and replace new

The Mazda Protege and Protege 5 2.0L engine has an IAT Sensor located just past the factory air filter box. It is a two wire sensor that plugs into the intake tube via a rubber grommet. The three wire plug in the Mass Air Flow Sensor. DO NOT Unplug either of these sensors while the vehicle is running or key turned to accessory. Will cause a flag in the computer and turn on the Check Engine Light. Hope this helps.

Clogged injector, burnt valves, blown head gasket, bad intake gasket. spark plugs.

Those are pressure fitted with a special tool. Your better off bringing your truck to a automotive repair shop to have them done. I couldn't find the right tool to do the job anywhere.

Being a typical Ford product, you should get at least 100,000 miles out of this vehicle before you start having to replace parts, or do anything other than routine maintenance.

Ford, checy, or dodge. Alll newer vehicles run a long time without problems. If you do your 100000 mile tune up, you should havwe any troubles with it, that is if it is treated well and maintance is well taken care of. 175,000 will be when i would start thinking about its end.

On a 2000 Merc. it's usually an emissions problem. You can try a water dryer for the fuel and change the PCV valve. If the light remains on, then more than likely it's the EGR valve. Have it tested for free at autozone or Advance auto.

Just did this on a 1988 Crown Victoria with the 5.0 engine. The following is the main steps I remember that was performed: After draining the antifreeze and removing the radiator fan and drive, and the belts; the A/C comp., air pump, alternator, and power steering pump brackets all have to be unfastened (the nuts) from the "double bolts" that hold the water pump on. All can be set aside without disconnecting lines. Keep track of how everyyhing comes off even if you have to make a rough sketch. Then you are down to taking the bolts out that hold the pump, the "double bolts" require a deep 5/8" socket. There is also at least a couple of bolts that are not "double bolts". Keep track of the position of each bolt because they are different lengths. Soak all the nuts and bolts with penetrant and be careful to avoid breaking any off. You will be in trouble if you do, because you will have to take the casting off between the pump and the engine block to drill them out unless enough shows to get one of those jaw type stud removers on it and even then it may break off flush with the block. In my experience this was "the mother of all" water pumps to replace (or at least among the top three). Be prepared for an all day job.

The door ajar light might stay on in a Mercury Mountaineer if a door is not shut properly. Sometimes a door will seem like it is shut, but will not be shut enough to trip the light off. Check for dirt or other debris in the door latch for all doors.
