Why would my Detroit diesel blow black smoke?
Black smoke can be caused when there is an improper air to fuel ratio . This can be anything from a plugged air cleaner,injector,turbo....
Does the noise happen all the time you push on the gas pedal or only at certain speeds?
What cause white smoke to come out your tailpipe and then your car quit starting?
White smoke usually means that anti freeze has entered the combustion chamber most likely through a hole in the head gasket and cannot be burned but is vaporized. too much and the engine will not run, which is good since running it in that condition would do more damage than just a blown head gasket.
How come theres a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust on my car when I try to crank it?
It sounds like you have a blown head gasket, oil is in the cylinders and is burning as you turn it over.
It means that you need a valve job. The black liquid is oil from your engine. Your engine is not making a tight enough seal for combustion therefore it sucks in oil and uses it in the combustion cycle. Be sure and check your oil level as im sure that your truck is burnin the hell out of some oil lol
Why does you car have blue smoke out the exhaust?
blue smoke comes out the tail pipe when your engine is burning oil caused by a worn engine.
Why is there white smoke coming out of the tailpipe of your 92 lumina?
because you have your heat on when you see it. White exhaust smoke is a sign of coolant entering the combustion chamber. If you are loosing coolant, then you more than likely have either a blown head gasket, or a cracked head, especially if the engine has overheated recently. Stop driving this car immediately or severe engine damage will occur. Change the oil & filter and drive it to a professional for repair.
Yeah, I agree that mufflers may fall prey to rust and can even fall off due to excessive rusting. It is still best to have a specialist look into it. But in any case, as an alternative, use a muffler repair tape to bring down the noise level and reduce exhaust emissions. This aluminum foil tape is routinely used for sealing mufflers and other metal objects that must withstand high temperatures. To apply the tape, turn off your car and use a jack to lift up the back end so that you can inspect the muffler. Use several layers of tape to patch any holes or damage that you find. The muffler may also be making noise because the hangers that attach it to the car are loose. As you're wrapping the muffler in tape, inspect the hangers, too. They may need to be replaced or tightened.
What might cause white smoke from the exhaust after having a head gasket repair done?
Having a CRACKED head will make WHITE smoke IF U didn't have the head MAGNA-FLUXED. White smoke is steam. if it doesnt quit after awhile Id say that there is a leak in the head gasket between one of the coolent passages and a cylinder. this will let water into the cylinder which is turned into steam during combustion then exausted out the tail pipe. just to clear up something: Magnafluxing will not prevent cracks, it is a process used to detect them. This should be done by a machine shop. the new gasket is obviously faulty, or the head is cracked. I would guess that its the gasket. The head may not have been torqued properly. Follow a Chiltons or similar repair manual very closely when installing a head. If this is immediately after getting it fixed, you have to give it some time to work all that coolant out of the exhaust system. If it still is blowing steam after a few miles, then probably you have another blown headgasket or a cracked head that should have been addressed on the first head gasket replacement. Some shops have been known to not verify that the head isn't warped or cracked, and if it is, the new head gasket will blow immediately. If you had it at a shop the first time, take it back to them and have them fix it right this time - remember, though, not all mechanics are created equal and if they don't make things right you should take this to a better shop. A good shop will be embarassed by such a rookie mistake and take care of you. It is also possible that the head is warped (repair by machining) or that the intake gasket is or was also leaking or warped. Warpage typically only occurs if serious overheating occurred or sometimes if the wrong torque sequence was used during installation.
Blown head gasket or cracked head. The gasket is blown next to the cylinder. Repair immediately. Do not drive, as severe engine damage will occur. If it is a V6 or V8, replace both head gaskets.
sounds like you use a bad mechanic a good mechanic would replace a cracked exhaust manifold to start with if you can smell gas, there is obvioulsy a leak in the fuel system. this needs to be found as it is a fire hazard
Why is White smoke coming out of the exhaust of my 1995 dodge neon?
You have a blown head gasket. You are also going through some anti freeze. Check that water. You may also see some white filn in your oil. Also water! Stop driving it until the head is repaired.
Loud clunking noise from engine at idle?
First thing is to check the timing belt if it is a 4 cylinder model. These are notorious for a slapping or clunking noise as the belt gets a bit loose. This is esp true if the belt has been changed as the spring loaded belt tensioner is anstalled at that time(not used from the factory). Once again I cannot emphasize enough that people need to buy a good Manual for their car as it answers most of their questions.
What do you do if a lot of white smoke is coming out of the muffler?
Use fuel system cleaner, if it doesn't help you could have a problem with the cadalidic converter or the head gasket.
This could be because you have coolant burning inside the combustion chamber(s). If you are leaking coolant, but cannot find the leak i.e. no puddles, then it is probable that your head gasket is leaking, your head is cracked, or both. If you are handy with tools, rent/buy a compression tester. If you have low compression in two adjacent cylinders, you probably have a blown head gasket. Not an easy fix. Sorry to say that.
You may be able to get a solution from AAP that can fix the head gasket leaks. I do not know what the brand name is but they say it works. Just drain the coolant, rerun the solution through, flush and add fresh coolant. I have never tried that though.
Good luck.
If you have black smoke coming out from the exhaust does that mean car overheating?
Your oil is probably leaking.
If the car is old, then it's likely to be scrap!
VTC (cam sensor) requires to be changed and your valve (rocker) cover seals plus the seals that are located around the spark plugs in the rocker cover.
White smoke coming out of the exhaust is a symptom of a blown head gasket. You need to have this repaired ASAP. In the mean time stop driving this vehicle or you will destroy this engine if the head gaske is blown. Sounds like you have more than one problem.
What is the smoke coming out of mouth in early winter morning?
Your breath as it is warmer than air around you will look like smoke
What is the thing on the engine that if you disconnect it you hear a sucking sound?
A little more description would be nice.. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's one of the many vacuum hoses attached to the engine. I believe it could be the PCV (positive crankcase valve).
Why is their water in the exhaust?
The normal combustion product of gas and oxygen is water (in the form of vapor because it is hot) and carbon dioxide. When you shut off a running car, water vapor in the air condenses to water as the muffler cools down. When you start the car, the exhaust gasses push the now liquid water out the back.
What does mean when you have black stuff coming out of the exhaust pipes on an old car?
it can mean one of two things it could be that the carburetor is feeding it too much fuel to air mixture or it could be that it just has carbon built up usually it will build up carbon if it idles for long periods of time you can fix this by just doing your basic tune up
