Start early in your high school years by taking classes that would include Chemistry, Physics, advanced Math, English and computers. You would need to contact the Naval Academy to secure an application packet from them. Then you would have to send it in and seek a nomination from your US Congressman and both US Senators. You can go to www.usna.edu and locate the steps needed to complete the application process. IF you are past your sophmore year in high school you need to start now. If you are a senior at the time of this posting the deadline for applications has passed as of January 31.

Captain Kangaroo (Robert James "Bob" Keeshan) was not a Navy Seal. However, he was a U.S. Marine who enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve at the end of WWII. Keeshan never saw combat; he was still in the United States when Japan surrendered.

The reason that women cannot enter the SEAL program is that women are currently prohibited by law to engage in direct combat as part of ground forces.

Females, can, however, qualify and serve on the Navy's EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) teams. They can also become Seabees, which does include some combat training.

It is unlikely to change - it's not necessarily whether or not a female can do the job or not, most are sure they can. The concern is that a female if captured would undergo much worse torture and coercion than their male counterparts. The propaganda value to an enemy capturing a female SEAL would also be enormous.

Current politicians and the media have made it difficult at best for current members to do their jobs without severe risk; our current "president" has already revealed sources and methods publicly that if you or I were to divulge them would land us in prison for Treason. The media and politicians have put such a stigma on losing anyone in combat, let alone a female, that it makes it difficult, almost impossible, for our society to become a bit more forward thinking like the Israelis, whose women serve in combat units of all types. That's why there is such a push on robotic alternatives being more and more often used in places ground units would be.

You may remember the young Army woman whose convoy got lost during the first few days of the Iraqi invasion, and who was ultimately captured. Though she fought bravely, after her rescue by SpecOps forces her story painted a different picture, as she reported being sexually assaulted during her capture. Our society is not yet ready to either ask that sacrifice of our women, or is our society yet ready to endure it, if it ever will be. Women serving in other combat roles was a major step forward - even female combat pilots stand the risk of capture if shot down. But SEAL's aren't pilots - they are routinely exposed to the kind of dangers that our leaders aren't willing to put women into yet. As a former Navy Vet whose wife was also Navy, both of us agree on that point.

It depends on the mission at hand - for Close Quarter Battle / close quarters fighting, they'll typically use an MP-5 or other similar weapon, with suppressor. If the mission is going to require a longer range weapon, an M4 or other similar rifle can be used. SEAL's are schooled in and use a wide variety of weapons, and in missions where they can't reveal their national origin (which is most of them) they may also use enemy weapons like an AK-47, 74, etc., so that it would appear the attack came from a local group. SEALS also use and carry their own personal weapons of choice, such as a .45, 9mm, etc., usually built to the operator's own specifications.

The most reliable set of Nerf weaponry that I have come across is the N-Strike Clip System. All seven of them use inter-exchangeable clip ammo with the same darts. In addition, you can swap barrels, shoulder stocks, and other equipment between them.

You need to be US citizen in order to become a US Navy Seal. You could become a naturalized US citizen. I would explore the Navy Seals website for further information. I would talk to a Navy recruiter they will know all the details about becoming a Navy Seal. Also they would be able to tell you if you are qualified to become a Navy Seal. In closing, becoming a Navy Seal is not glamorous or easy. You will be assigned on missions that could involve killing people. This is what will be ultimately asked of you. I would definitely talk to Navy seals themselves to get their perspective. Also talk to the Australian armed forces and see if they have an Australian equivalent to the Navy Seals. Also talk to your parents and other family members for their opinions. Good luck on your journey.

I think you will find that there is a version of the USA Navy Seals, or the British SAS, in Australia. Every country needs to maintain special forces for the tasks not suitable for the regular armed forces.
