Sounds like a possible vaccuum leak to me, take the car to a trusted shoop and have your vaccuum system inspected, hopefully they should be able to diagnose the problem quickly. but before that, warm the car to operating temp, drive around the block and check your tanny fluid level, that could be the cheapest and easiest fix of all.
How do you change a serpentine belt on 92 olds toronado?
If there isn`t a drawing of the belt system make one to insure the new belt is on correctly.. Using a socket or large wrench on the Idler pulley located lower right of the PS pump lift the pulley it is spring loaded, slide the belt off all the pulleys it services. There is one brace to remove to completely remove and replace the belt. Place the new belt as per diagram on all the pulleys idler included. Lift the idler pulley to remove spring tension and slip the belt on to the Alternator Pulley. Make certain that the belt is lined correctly in the groves on the pulleys before starting. GOOD LUCK. The computer is right in front of the glove box in the right side of the passenger compartment. Open glove box door, reach up and push the stop for the glove box door out of the way so the door rotates out of the way, you can then see the Body Control Module (computer) just to the right in the hole created by the glove box door being out of the way.

First pull out the plastic socket out of the blinker assembly from either the front or back of your car. Turn the bulb in a counter clockwise direction while you push down on the bulb. Install the new bulb in reverse order.

Your 1985 Olds Tornado has a 307 engine can you upgrade to a 350?
Yes you can upgrade to a 350 but only if it is an Oldsmobile 350 and you will need to use small block olds toronado intake from a 307 so you will have hood clearance-you may need to enlarge ports in intake to match 350 head ports but probably not much. You can use your 307 heads on the 350 but I would put bigger valves in those heads before I used them with a 350 and porting would not hurt if you want much performance. The Olds 350 will have a lot more power stock than the 307

It is located in the lower dash, below the glovebox. You have to remove some interior trim pieces to get to it.
It could me a number of different problems, but based on the hesitation there may be a vacuum leak somewhere creating a lean condition, which would cause a lack of power. The gas smell may be fumes that are escaping from the same place the extra air is entering, assuming that is what's causing the issue.

There seems to be two parts to the water pump and the fan is what usually goes first. Olds. was smart enough to just male that part to replace only. I was replacing the alternator on my 91 and decided to replace the water pump part I was speaking of. It's cheap and easy to get to. Hope this helps in some way.
