Go to the first folder that contains your iTunes music, usually the "My Music" folder. Right-click on that folder, select properties and uncheck the "Read Only" part. This solved the problem for me.

You can just Right-Click the iTunes icon on your desktop then click proerties and unclick "Read Only" that is much faster.

If neither of the above work:

Open the registry: Run regedit

Make sure you are at the top of the registry: at "My Computer"

Click Edit - Find, search for "My Music" without the quotes and select Values

For each of around 6 instances, make sure the data points to either of:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Music

or

\My Documents\My Music

After you make all changes, Reboot the computer or log-off and log-in.

On most Linux distributions, LOCAL passwords are stored in one of two places: /etc/passwd, or /etc/shadow. They are simple text files containing user information.

Some systems are configured to authenticate using LDAP or other methods (typically over a network to some type of server) - those will be dependent on the specific setup.

Almost all distributions store passwords encrypted, so you won't be able to edit or see the password, but you can clear the field out and/or reset it if need be.

If you are trying to reset a password, you will need to log in as root and issue the command 'passwd <username>' to change it. If you are trying to log in as root and forgot the password, you will need to start the system in single-user mode and reset it manually - you can Google "Reset Linux Root Password" for instructions, it's a common procedure.

Hi, i have the same predicament, and in any case, if you do not have the original admin password (say if you bought the computer used and dont know the pw) everyone ive asked and all the websites say, the best thing to do, is simply to reinstall you operating system. Now im not sure, if they mean this, assuming we have the setup discs, which if bought at the pawn shop for example, are most likely not going to be included, or if they mean to install a whole new os altogether. I have a windows vista upgrade disc, an original setup disc for vista from another laptop, and a windows 7 upgrade disc, so im just going to most likely install a clean copy of windows 7 and that oughtta do the trick. Reformatting the partition and installing the os again, seems to be the most intelligent thing to do, especially since my computer was bought used, and theres no telling what the guy before me put on here. Thats what i would recommend, installing another OS. Other than that, there are discs and software you can purchase or download that will wipe out the password altogether, but since the computer is locked already, its a little difficult downloading much of anything., Hope this helps ya out!

Absolutely. The network traffic is essentially the same when it comes to straight date. The files could be different resulting in one computer not understanding the other, but a router will work with MAC, LINUX/UNIX and WINDOWS all on it.

The closest OS X has to a root account is the adminstration account. When you want to install or remove any program on the hard disk you will need that login and password. The person who set up the computer has that information. But you has to give it every time

If you have a username and password and want to set up a new account then you have to give the administrator passward and can do it. So you can have administrative privileges in one window, set up the other account, and when this is done, so is the privilege.

It is not enough to make a user with UID with value 1.

if you have administrative privileges you can start a "Root" terminal to run installation scripts. Otherwise, if you have the Administrator password, you can use the "sudo" command in front of the script (just as for Linux) and get the installation done.
