This question is basically the concept of theodicy. Theodicy is the attempt to answer the question of why a good God permits the manifestation of evil. In classical Western religion, God is omnibenevolent, omnipotent, and omniscient, which makes the terrible things that happen on earth very confusing if you believe this. How can God be omnibenevolent and allow genocide and natural disasters? Many people have tried to answer this question, and people have even had to redefine God's powers to explain the evils of the world. The most common answer to this question is that God has a plan, and the things we percieve as evil will eventually make sense.

I appreciate the clarity and concise and logic of this answer! May I add that the thought that God enjoy human suffering is contrary to everything else we know (the little that we know) about God's creation. No right mind human being would enjoy seeing other people suffer. How could God be any less? But that still leave us with the big question why God allows so much suffering. The answer is much simpler that most people realize. Just ask these two simple questions. What happen to humanity in the presence of great suffering? And what happen to humanity in the presence of peace and abundance? We all know the answers. Humanity becomes more like God in the presence of suffering and on the contrary humanity becomes depraved in the presence of abundance. Only and only through suffering can humanity appreciate the depth of God's love and become more like Him.

No it is an example of a simile. Personification is giving animals or inanimate objects human qualities, ex: the mountain breathed with the trees.

It's not a simile. Similes use "like" or "as," as in, "A smile lit up her face like the morning sun" or "She was as sleazy as the ten dollar dresses she wore." A metaphor does not use the words "like" or "as." A metaphor would be, "Her smile was the morning sun to me; I could not start my day without it."

The sentence in question is a type of metaphor called "personification." Personification is when animals or inanimate objects are compared to human beings. In this case, the creaking sound made when the heavy man sits on the couch is compared to a human being making a groaning sound.

No, this is a simile. Personification is where you give an object life-like or human features. For example, if you say "The bars on the pole stretched out," this is giving the pole the ability to stretch.

Of course! The Bible is the greatest work of literature of all time, and there are more than 200 different forms of figures of speech in it, according to E. W. Bullinger. Personification is one of them.

Personification is the ascribing of human characteristics or actions to inanimate objects or ideas or to animals. E.g., love is blind. (a human characteristic, blindness, ascribed to an idea, love.)

Biblical examples: "Wisdom shouts in the street, she lifts her voice in the square; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, at the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings: ' How long, O naive ones, will you love simplicity? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing? And fools hate knowledge? Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you, I will make my words known to you...'" Proverbs 1:20-23

You can also use the Ecuadorian version of Facebook: Sonico.com. Again, you need to be able to write and understand Spanish. Just a few months ago, I found a long, lost Ecuadorian friend by putting her name into both Google Ecuador and Sonico. Essentially, Google Ecuador brought me to Sonico and I found her on Sonico. A word of caution: don't give Sonico your e-mail address when you sign-up, which you'll have to do to have access to the Sonico members. It will automatically e-mail everyone in your address book an invitation to Sonico in Spanish.I ended up with a lot of confused non-spanish speaking friends asking why I was sending them e-mails in Spanish.

If you don't speak Spanish, you can use the Google Translator (translate.google.com). You go to the google translate site and paste the URL of the page you want to translate into the text block and click on "translate." This can be quite laborious if you are going to a lot of pages. In that case, download the Chrome browser and add the Google Translate extension. This will add a check box where you just click yes (to the question: Translate page?) when you need a translation. Btw, this will allow translation of many different languages. Very cool.
