it depends what size the engine is, mine is a 1.6 and as your looking at the engine it is close to the middle of the engine block but slightly to right, just above the manifold, you really have to search for them! Its almost like a spark plug stick out of the engine with a cable stuck to the end of it. Be aware they are very difficult to remove!

It's probably similar to the Trooper since they share a motor (3.2L).
On mine, you can see/reach it better from underneath. Loosen the locknut first, then adjust, then tighten the locknut back up.

Actually, on this truck, the alternator is the tensioner!! Loosen both alfernator bolts 'a little'. If your belt is too loose (for than .5 ines of play) use a 10 wrench and 10 socket (from under the car) to tighten the bolt, which will move the alternator away from the block. Keep checking tension on the belt until it's less a little less than .5 inces. Then tighten the lock nut with the 10 wrench and tighten both alternator bolts and you're all set.
The way you'll always know that this belt is too loose is that your Isuzu will make a terrible screeching noise when you start it. It usually does away when it warms up, but this is the cause. It can also come back if the motor gets wet.

Hello there. Tighten in 3 stages of torque. Refer to the Haynes manual, (other products are available...), so you can identify your engine type. Then follow the sequence and stages so the job is done correctly. I would have put down the sequence but I can't remember it off the top of my head. It is important to tighten the bolts in sequence so you may as well purchase a suitable book, lets face it, if you have removed your head and are in the process of re-torquing without the aid of a manual, you are a blooming genius my friend. Or slightly crazy....
The Torque settings for the XUD9TE engine are done in 3 stages.
Stage 1 = 20 Nm
Stage 2 = 60 Nm
Stage 3 = 220°
Order in which to tighten is detailed below.
10 6 2 3 7 FLY
09 5 1 4 8 WHEEL
You should check for a loss of compresshion or a vacum leak.

Brilliant-I used a 12mm socket on my Peugeot 807 and it came undone immediately.

12mm socket on an 807? Yeah,,,, of course you did, They were bigger than that on the Mk 1 Mini.
Try changing the top strut bearings they rust up and can give a knocking sound when you go from lock to lock,
the library should have a shop manual for this vehicle, you can make copies of the right sections :)
O.K. - I'll answer my own question! After asking around the garages, I was advised to check out the switch. Awkward job to remove it from the steering column but it checked out O.K. A new washer pump cured the problem - presumably a sticky valve was the real cause, but the unit is sealed.

i dont know how to disable completely but if you have got the code wrong a few times and wont let you try again then you have to disconnect the battery in order to try again.
