1. Install filtration on all their waste water so it can be reused in the industry, or at least recycled to water parklands.
2. Examine their processes for ways to use less water.
3. Cooperate with cities or other industries to use recycled water. One industry may have clean waste water that another industry can use, perhaps for cooling.

The pollution levels resulting from rockets varies. Some rockets use hydrogen and oxygen to reach orbit, meaning their exhaust is merely water vapor. Solid fuels produce more pollutants. Additionally, some rockets burn rocket-grade kerosine, hydrazine, and nitrogen tetroxide do not burn very clean. Some rockets burn nitrous oxide and high-grade rubber, which does not burn clean. While the exhaust does not burn clean, the infrequency of it's use results in a negligible environmental impact. Additionally, much of the exhaust is also released high enough to not enter the atmosphere.

There are a few things that can be done to help or resolve the problem of air pollution. Using electric cars, carpooling, and reducing the amount of chemicals that are burned will help reduce air pollution.

No, it has to do with the fact that modern buildings are better insulated (for heating/cooling) and better sealed to prevent air leaks (which cause loss of hot/cold air to the outside). This reduces the number of air exchanges that happen per hour with the outside to bring in fresh air. With less fresh air the pollutants concentrate in the internal air.

Some HVAC systems partially correct this issue by using forced air heat exchanger systems that draw in outside air through a heat exchanger while exhausting inside air through the same heat exchanger so that the fresh outside air is warmed/cooled to the temperature of the inside air before being released inside and the dirty inside air is cooled/warmed to the temperature of the outside air before being exhausted outside. This helps but can add significant cost to the HVAC system and does not work in a power failure.

When DDT is applied to soil, water or other materials it does not decompose or biodegrade rapidly. As consequence it is slowly washed out with the water flows into groundwater or surface flows into streams. These flows eventually reach lakes and oceans with the DDT content still intact.

The problem with Lake Ontario is mostly its elevation. AS the lowest lying Great Lake, it accumulates the down stream runoff from all the other lakes. Also add to the fact it's location as an old industial waterway (steel mills of Ohio) and its history of pollution has been decades. It's slowly recovering now because those mills are mostly in the southern USA. Today's problem is mostly with Nuclear Power Plants and their warm water. Nuclear Plants usually need a huge volume of cold water to cool their super hot reactors. In the Midwest, most plants are required to hold this superheated water for a few weeks and then release it when cool. That does not happen on the Lake as power companies release warm water, effluent release temperature is dictates as part of plant licensing, following an environmental impact study. The lake also suffers from foreign population as large ocean going ships dump water, usually polluted water from Asian shores (used to balance the ship when empty), into the waterways. Hence how the zebra mussel got there. It's just location, of being the lowest in elevation, heart of the old American industrial heartland, and doorway to the rest of the inner great lakes, makes the Lake a hallway that people wipe their feet at when entering the countries interior.
