Pulleys

A pulley is a mechanism composed of a wheel on an axle or shaft. A rope, or cable usually runs over the wheel and inside the groove. Pulleys are normally used to change the direction of an applied force to make the work easier. It is one of the six simple machines.

What physical phenomena could be used to define a time?

Physical phenomena that could be used to define a time could be several things. Some are a balance wheel in a watch, a star, quartz crystals in watches, months, and years.

Define a double pulley?

A double pulley is one of two types: one with a single wheel that has two grooves for two lines or one that has two wheels connected by the lines. In both types the aim is to create a mechanical advantage that multiplies the applied force into a larger force.

What is a compound pulley?

a coumpound pulley is when there is a fixe pulley and movable pulley working together

What is the trade off with a group of pulleys?

A pulley system is a force multiplier. That means you trade distance for force. You pull the rope a long way to lift the load a short way, but the force you need is reduced.

What is a jockey pulley?

It is a type of pulley system that helps riders onto the tops of their horses before a race. Just a good guess.

What do fixed fixed pulleys always do?

A fixed pulley when used individually, uses more effort than the load to lift the load from the ground. This is what a fixed pulley always does. When attached to an unmovable object e.g. a ceiling or wall, it always acts as a first class lever where the fulcrum is located at the axis but with a minor change, the bar becomes a rope. The advantage of the fixed pulley is that you do not have to pull or push it up and down. The disadvantage is that you have to apply more effort than the load.

How do you calculate IMA of a pulley?

Take the weight of the object then divide by however many visible ropes.(if the force is pulling down)

How are shoe laces like pulleys?

Shoe Laces are like pulleys when you put your finger to your shoe lace and then pull!
they are like pullys because you can put a weight on one side and balance it out over a roller.

How do you remove the deck pulley on a scag 61inch?

Remove the 2 bolts(should be 1/4 bolts) on top of the deck pulley, screw them in the threaded holes next to where they just came from(spray a little oil on them also), and start tightening them little by little, alternating from one to the other. they will get extremely tight, when they get like that I take a large diameter punch and put as close to the center of the pulley under the bushing your screws are screwed into and give it 2-3 hard smacks with a hammer. Then continue screwing the small bolts again, the bolts will eventually push the pulley off of the tapered bushing. to remove the bushing tap a small flat blade screwdriver into the split on the end and pull it off

Who are high riggers?

People who work with cables, winches, pulleys, and ropes off the ground in construction, entertainment, and yachting.

Is a garage door a movable pulley?

YES. There are four pulleys on a garage door frame, two mounted in a stationary position on the frame above either side of the garage door frame, and two moveable pulleys attached to the springs on either side of the door.

Are all belt and pulley grooves alike?

There are three basic types of pulleys and belts. Three very common types would be round, v-shaped, and flat. Each type of belt requires a matching pulley type. For example, a flat-type belt would require a compatible flat shaped pulley, where the surface of friction is smooth and flat. Most other belts are some variation of these three types. Any of these types of belts may be ribbed, toothed, or some hybrid of any of the above types.

What pulley drives alternator belt What is wrong if this pulley isn't turning?

the pulley on the harmonic balance drives the alternator belt. this is the pulley at the bottom of the engine ,on the front of the crank shaft if this pulley is not turning you have a problem. this means either the key is missing or the crankshaft is broken

How is a fixed pulley different from a movable pulley?

A fixed pulley is different from a movable pulley because a movable pulley has one end of the rope attached to it fixed on an unmoving object. The pulley is free to move with the rope. You pull the other end of the rope. Also, a movable pulley multiplies the applied force (effort force) and therefore has more mechanical advantage. A fixed pulley is attached to something that doesn't move, while one end of the rope is holding the weight, while the other is for pulling.
A fixed pulley confers no mechanical advantage, but will convert motion in one direction into another direction.

A movable pulley system, if the pulleys change their distance from each other, will confer a mechanical advantage.

Which type of simple machine is a pulley?

A pulley isn't a kind of simple machine, it is a simple machine
