How do rabbits eat?

Rabbits eat by using the two front teeth to bite the pellets into little pieces, then they swallow it. It is as simple as that! You will even hear them crunching it. That's what my rabbit does anyway.

Rabbits have several molars in addition to their front teeth. That's why they need to go to a vet so they can check the back teeth and make sure they're not growing.

In the wild, rabbits forage (search) for food in what can be described as a 'browse and graze' manner. They eat grasses, leaves, flower buds, twigs, and (tender) bark from trees and plants.

Can rabbits eat strawberry leaves?

No. If you don't want bad strawberries, neither does your bunny. Don't ever feed your rabbit rotten or spoiled food. Fresh strawberries are okay for your bunny but only a bite or two every once in awhile: they're too sugary to be eaten regularly.

Are carrots healthy for rabbits?

Carrots are only healthy for rabbits in small amounts, as an occasional treat. The House Rabbit Society recommends no more than two tablespoons of treat food a day for a normal, healthy 6 pound rabbit. Carrots are not particularly healthy for rabbits (they only contain a small amount of cellulose, which is the most essential part of a rabbit's diet), but they aren't bad for it either. For their main source of food, timothy hay is best. See the related link below for more info about the rabbit diet, and helpful links!

For the record, cellulose is pure dietary fiber; you can say that rabbits need a lot of fiber, probably because their active lifestyles require high metabolism.

Rabbits enjoy carrots a fair amount though, and so they make good treats. However, it should be noted that they enjoy more leafy vegetables (such as "romaine lettuce, escarole, turnips, collard, kale, parsley, thyme, cilantro, dandelion, and basil.") even more than carrots; From my own experience, they enjoy strawberries even more, but these should be given sparingly as they *are* bad for the rabbit if given regularly.

Can rabbits eat arugula?

Arugula, also known as rocket, is a healthy and yummy green for rabbits and it can be incorporated into the rabbit's "salad." Some rabbits don't like it very much because it does have a strong flavour, but other rabbits love it. See the related question below for more info about the rabbit diet.

Can rabbits eat olives?

Rabbits can eat fresh oregano. If your rabbits like it, you can include fresh oregano in the rotation of "salad" greens. Don't give your rabbits dried oregano, though, or any dried spice or herb, because it's too potent. See the related question below for more details and helpful links about the rabbit diet.

How do you tell how old a baby rabbit is?

You can take it to the vet and they will tell you. Or you can do the math from when they were born.

If they have no fur they are under 3 days old, if their eyes are not open they are under 10 days. If they have begun to eat pellets but are still nursing they are under 6 weeks. If they are eating but the doe is trying to wean them they are 7-9 weeks old. If they are a small breed it is harder to tell and you may have to take them to a vet.

Is it okay to bathe a bunny?

Yes, you can. It is exactly like washing a dog or cat. You don't have to, but due to the feces and urine, it gets on your pet and gets them dirtier than you think. You have to go to the pet store like pet supplies plus, or petco, etc. Then, you can just ask someone for like the small pet isle in pet care and you can find the Rabbit shampoo. If not, you can use normal shampoo. I just got a bunny myself yesterday for my 11th birthday. I know I'm 11. But I know a lot about them. So, when you give them a bath, just put it in from head to tail, and gently lather it into the fur. Brush with a light, gentle comb because of it's thin fur making it pure and even.
