How do you avoid cutting off the symphysis pubis in a KUB?

One of the two following methods will work:

(1) Place side of your hand on patient's abdomen, superior to the symphysis pubis. Then while pressing, slide hand inferiorly until the symphysis pubis is palpated. Ensure light field covers this area of the symphysis pubis.

(2) Palpate for the greater trochanters in the femur. Ensure the light field covers this area or at least the area of the abdomen that reaches to this level of the greater trochanters.

When abdominal effusion is suspected what adjustment must be made for a small animal abdominal radiograph?

The contrast needs to be lowered. This allows for more "gray" to develop in the radiograph, which is what the effusion will show up as. With high contrast radiographs, abdominal fat, effusion fluid and the abdominal viscera tend to blend together.

Could someone survive a gunshot to the head with a Desert eagle. 50AE?

Possible, but the odds are less than even. Large caliber weapons kill from impact, blood loss, and concussion, and head wounds often involve severe brain damage. Some people do miraculously survive the type of massive trauma inflicted, but recovery is often lengthy and incomplete.

Is radiology a high or low stress career?

All medical doctors have stress especially during your residency period (16 hr workdays). I once considered radiology because it's not a public face-to-face position with the patients, you just read x-rays and relay the info to their doctor. You probably have to hustle to get those reads done quickly tho. Takes a long time to specialize in radiology, 5-6 years after 4 yrs of med school. Get a health care careers book at the library.

If you were asking about becoming a radiology tech (the people who take the x-rays) then run away now!! Repetitive motions cause joint problems and pain, also dealing with some very sick people and positioning them on the x-ray machine. My buddy who trained in this said the tech school brought in hobos to practice x-rays on (i guess county hospital didn't want to pay their x-ray bill)

Which is better a certificate or associate's degree from a community or technical college for radiology?

A certifcate takes a year to a year and a half. The associate degree a little longer, customarily about two years or four full semesters. Depending on what you want to do with the credential, it all depends. Sometimes you can get a certificate as well as an associate degree, usually the certificate comes first. Get a certificate and if you want to continue it would only take about one more full semester to acquire the associate degree. either way, if you get one or the other they are both outstanding academic credentials, that hopefully can spring board you toward a fulfilling job or getting your bachelors degree. good luck!
