What are the four Rs of defensive driving?
**If you live in a country where you drive on the right.
Can a motorbike really kill you?
In many accidents you can be severely injured or in most cases killed so the answer to this question is yes! driving a motorcycle doesn't make you safe and you could be killed!! please drive safe!
I think that would depend on the county and country in question.
In the UK, "next to is next to" and you get a ticket.
Why is Ralph Nader againsts the auto industry and the oil industries?
the same way we should be!!! The oil industry is ripping us off and helps fuel terrorism by supplying rich money to terrorist governments. When we didn't have cars, you could find a job in your own town and walk to work. Now you have to drive 1-2 hours to find employment.
No he was not against the auto industry. He was against unsafe cars. His thoughts on the oil industry I do not know. Automobiles are a necessity today. Can you imagine the U.S. without the automobile? We would have to go back to like it was in the early 1800s. We also need oil to fuel the vehicles that transport the goods and food we need each and every day. Without oil, and the auto, this would be a totally different world.
Is it safelegal to have a child placed in the middle seat of the front seats?
That depends on how old of a child. If the child is in a car seat or booster seat, then no. Studies and actual accidents have shown that children and infants can be beheaded in the front seat if airbags deploy. The child needs to be buckled in the back seat, center if possible.
Is it illegal to drive on bald tires in Minnesota?
Not just Minnesota, ALL country/state driving laws make it illegal to drive on unsafe tires. Bald tires are unsafe because they have poor contact with the road, and are more likely to blow out (explode).
What do two parallel white lines stand for while driving?

Is riding in a 5th wheel while driving legal?
Depending upon the state you live in, it is usually not illegal. In fact, there are some public transportation systems that use a tractor attached to a fifth wheel (Passenger) trailer that looks much like a city bus except for the tractor and fifth wheel. These are not common, but have been used as I seen a picture of one in a big city once.
Added: SOME states (but not many - you will have to individually check the states you wish to drive through) do allow it, but I believe that the ones that do, require some kind of communication between the tow vehicle and the trailer.
The best way to prevent fatigue on long drives is to?
To prevent the fatigue you have to reduce the amount of driving time. On a long distance the best way to avoid the fatigue is driving no more then eight hours in the row.
How do you put chains on your tires?
Lay the chains out in front of or behind the tires. Pull over them or back over them. Wrap the chains around the tire and hook them. It's also, a good idea to fasten a couple of rubber snubbers/bunjees criss crossing them across the hub. The chains will chew up your tire if you travel on a road with less than 3 inches of snow. But, California requires you to use chains with less than an inch. Depends on the state.
To make it even easier, first drape the chains over your tires so there is an even amount of chain hanging from both the front and back of the tire. Next drive forward over the chains until the tails from the front stick out the back and can reach the other end of the chains.
It is not recommended for front-wheel drive cars to use chains as they can damage the vehicle's drive train. You should only put chains on the "stationary" rear wheels, never on "turning" wheels. This is not feasible on front-wheel drive cars as the rear wheels do not supply any power.
What is the weight capacity of a 2500HD?
Depends on if you're talking towing or loading into the bed of a pickup. A 2500 is a 3/4 ton and a ton is 2000lbs. This means that its rated to haul 1500 lbs in its bed. While there is a small margin of safety (your truck wont fall apart if you haul 1600 lbs) its a good idea to not exceed the rated limit, especially if you're trying not to beat up your truck. The HD doesn't make a difference, it simply means "heavy duty chassis" which gives you a few stronger components such as u joints, shocks, springs, and maybe axle. It doesn't, however, usually increase its hauling capacity but check the owners manual to be sure.
What is the proper way to use antilock brakes in an emergency situation?
Push down on the brake pedal and hold it there, do not pump.
Apply the brakes in an even manner until the braking system starts to pulse and vibrates the brake peddle. This is how anti lock brakes tell you you are getting the most available braking from them.
Keep enough pressure or force on the peddle until the vehicle comes to a stop.
The car is indeed lighter than a van or suv. The key to gettin used to the new load difference is to practice in an unused parking lot. A car is more manoeverable, so in addition you will need to get used to the gentler touch for the car. Take your foot off the gas, it's not needed as much. Until you get used to the feel of the car, a good technique is to visualize an egg between your foot and the accelerator to keep you from "gunning" the car. Good luck!
What is the difference between payload and towing capacity?
Payload dertimines the amount of weight your vehicle can carry safely while driving (Braking and Steering)
Tow capacity means how much your vehicle can tow behind itself safely while driving.
(braking and steering)
Check your owners manual or cdall the dealer if not sure.
Hope this helps
If someone unnecessarily hits the brakes and you hit them Are you following too close?
Yes. Rule of thumb. If you are following another car give yourself 4 to 5 second lead. The best way is to pick a stationary object, such as, a telephone pole, a sign, or a light pole and count 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi and so on. If you get to 5 seconds by the time you pass the object you are fine. Add 1 second to every 5 MPH. 55 MPH=5 seconds.
The above poster has recommended a very conservative following distance. Many authorities recommend two full seconds if the roads are dry and you are paying attention. If you're on a cell phone, better give yourself 20 seconds or so.
Two seconds is no longer being recommended as a safe following distance. This is because it take the average person 3/4 of a second to realize a problem and another 3/4 of a second to apply the brake. That's 1 1/2 seconds. So the first paragraph is what is now being promoted. A Minimum of 4 seconds following distance is now recommended for cars during the day on a dry road.
It is also a good idea to keep in mind the relative braking abilities of your vehicle. Typically lower cars stop better than higher cars. Trucks tend to stop poorly relative to cars. ABS tends to make a car stop better on bad road surfaces than vehicles without ABS. Wide tires tend to help stopping power, though taller tires make it harder to stop. Worn or aged (in years) tires reduce stopping power. Brake system faults or wheel misalignment reduce stopping power. Improper tire inflation reduces stopping power, especially tires that are overinflated (some people do this to improve mpg even though wearing out the tires faster usually eliminates the benefit).
ABS also makes you stop slower. However, on wet or slippery conditions, ABS also allows for manuevering without requiring the skills of a professional racecar driver.
All of the above assumes that the person was not slamming on their brakes to intentionally cause an accident (a common insurance scam). The general rule is you are responsible for avoiding hazards ahead of you because you are in the best position to do so. It's easier for you to create a 2 second following distance than for the person ahead of you to create one, etc.
Answer 3
It's great to say that you should leave a 5 second gap, but in reality that doesn't happen. It always used to be 'the 2 seconds rule', but personally I find 3 seconds much more relaxing. At that distance, you have the feeling that no matter how much of an idiot the guy in front of you is, you can avoid getting in an accident with them.
I'm sure it's illegal for someone to put on their brakes for no reason, except perhaps to make a tailgater crash into them. The hard job would be in proving that's what they did. All they have to say is that they thought someone was about to step into the road, or there was a dog, and there is not much you can do to disprove it.
Much better to give yourself sufficient space to avoid such toxic individuals.
Good luck.
What is the worlds most expensive driving ticket?
In Finland the prosecution is allowed to take into account your income when awarding fines; Jussi Salonoja was issued a 170,000 euro speeding ticket for doing 80km/hr in a 40 km/hr zone. Now as for the fastest speed ever recorded on a speeding ticket...in 2003, there was a race called the Gumball 3000 which ran from California to Florida. One of the events was for charity. They brought a Texas highway patrol car out to a stretch of road and clocked each driver over a closed course--one where no other cars were. A "speeding ticket" was awarded to each driver, and the "fine" was paid to charity. Some maniac in a Koenigsegg CCX went 242mph. They had to have calculated this one by time over distance because radar guns don't go that high.
When to turn off overdrive in your car?
The overdrive should be switched off when you want to avoid unneccessary shifting. If you are driving on a hilly road, the vehicle will shift out of overdrive going uphill to maintain speed while pulling the vehicles weight up the hill, and shift into overdrive going down the hill to save fuel when additional engine power is not needed. When towing with an automatic transmission, the vehicle may tend to repeatedly shift in and out of overdrive due to the added weight. In scenerios such as these, you should turn off the overdrive to avoid the unneccesary shifting which puts more wear and tear on the transmission.
It is a good idea when you are driving on wet pavement to change lanes quickly true or false?
False
Moving a vehicle quick even on dry pavement gives you less control and more chance of a crash. Much more so on wet pavement.
If you come in too close in front of a vehicle behind they may not have enough distance to brake safely to avoid hitting you.
Are tacos more dangerous than hamburgers to eat while driving?
I doubt there is conclusive scientific evidence saying one way or the other... Both are dangerous while driving... But having personally done both.. I would say yes..
Worn shocks, or weak springs. Low air pressure in the tires. Worn steering parts.
