Some groups who break away from the true teaching of the Koran turn to terrorism as a means to an end. Just as there are bad Muslims there are bad Christians who misinterpret the scriptures to suit their own needs. If you look through history you will find that the Christian religion has caused more harm to the peoples of the world that any other religion.
No, 2,974 people died in the attacks. There were over 6,000 people injured. There are some people now trying to say that the crashes were faked by animation. There were thousands of people who saw the crashes occur in person or saw the wreckage just after that can verify they were not animated. To try to make less of what happened or to try to say that this was fake is disrespectful to the memories of those who died and to the families and friends that were left behind.

The crashes happened, and the buildings are indeed gone. There are other questions, such as what was the government involvement, and whether the tragedy was known about ahead of time, whether there were explosives planted in the building, etc. As with many things, questions of conspiracy are valid and relevant, and there are several websites and groups out there talking about different kinds of proof for those tertiary issues, but the crashes themselves were witnessed by many.
