When hundreds of birds gather in trees at sunset and chirp loud what does it mean?
Not all naturally occurring phenomenon can or should be interpreted as an omen.
I believe this is one such time. In nature birds in large numbers commonly flock together. When the flock is too large to roost in a single tree they often settle in several trees. The noise they make on landing is to establish the whereabouts of flock members, to reassure those out of sight with others that the flock is still together and in some cases to pass information along to one another. Humankind is not the only creature of this world who likes to be surrounded by the comforting noises of their family and community.

* These are all modern British marriage traditions but their origins lie in the dim and distant past. Admittedly, some have more to do with fantasy, folklore or even superstition than age-old customs, while others perhaps involve myth and even a little mischief. This has more to do with avoiding a last minute change of heart than simple bad luck. In the past, when marriages in this country tended to be arranged alliances between families, the bride and groom often did not know who one other was before the ceremony, let alone what they looked like. Inevitably, there were meetings, either by accident or design. Bridegrooms who werent attracted to their future partner were known to mysteriously disappear just before the wedding. For the modern bride it is far better to choose her own dress, not let her future husband see her in the dress so he can see how radiant and beautiful she is (for the first time) when she walks down the aisle.

The superstitions about bridges seem to stem from bridges being symbolic of the "crossing over" from life to death.
It was believed that the "Devil" would claim the soul of the first one to cross a newly constructed bridge. This resulted in an animal being herded across the bridge first.
Many people in Europe will not cross a bridge nor go through a tunnel when a train is passing above or below them.
Many people will not cross a bridge behind a coffin or hearse.
Bridge builders have been know to add wine, a coin or a bit of iron to the mortar used in placing the keystone to ensure the future good fortune of the bridge.

Farmers can tell you that if you check your chickens when it rains you can tell how long the rain will last. If chickens roost up and stay out of the rain, go back inside and have a coffee, the rain won't last long. If the chickens are out in the rain you might as well grab your slicker and get out there too, the rain will last the better part of the day. I've been watching this one for years, and so far the chickens have been right.
