Superstitions

People hold a variety of superstitious beliefs and these vary across cultures. In some cultures, for example, it is considered bad luck to jump over a human being.

Yes it is real.

The Unicorn - a white horse (or sometimes a goat) with cloven hooves and a single horn.

The Pegasus - a winged horse borrowed from the more ancient mythologies of Greece.

The Hippocampus - a "sea" horse with the head, and fore-body of a horse and a hind-body and tail of a fish.

The Hippogriff - a creature with the head, fore-body, and wings of an eagle and the hind-body of a horse.

The Dragon - described in one of two forms, reptilian (a winged lizard, usually with four legs but sometimes depicted with only two legs), and serpentine, (a winged snake with no legs). Some but not all versions breathed fire.

The Basilisk (sometimes confused with the cockatrice) - another reptilian monster with the head and legs of a rooster, that was reputed to ooze a poisonous slime that could kill man, beast and vegetation on contact. It was also supposed to be able to kill with a look or the sound of its voice.

The Gryphon - a creature with the head, fore-body and wings of an eagle, and the hind-body of a lion.

The Manticore - a red lion body with a human head, shark-like teeth, and a serpent tail.

The Mermaid (also known as; sirens, and naiads) - a creature with the head and upper body of a woman and the tail of a fish. Said to lure sailors and fishermen to their deaths by shipwreck.

The Harpy - said to be large avaricious birds with the heads and chests of ugly women.

The Sea-serpents - large sea creatures of many and varied descriptions that reputedly captured, crushed and or destroyed sailing ships. Including but not exclusive to: the aspidoceleon, the Kraken, the leviathan and of coarse the Lock Ness monster.

The Phoenix - a bird of legendary beauty that was said to have a lifespan of a thousand years and would at the end of its life built a large nest and ignite the nesting materials. The new phoenix would arise from the ashes of the old one.

The Vampire - a human who was supposedly bitten by another vampire and "turned" into an undead, creature that lives off the life blood of humans.

The Werewolf - a human who was supposedly bitten by another werewolf and would turn into a wolf (sometimes a human/wolf hybrid) under the light of the full moon.

A flickering in either eye, more commonly called a twitch, has no significance as an omen either good or bad. It generally originates as an irritation of a nerve. If it continues or becomes quite bothersome, you should seek advice from a medical professional.

It's not so much lucky as apotropaic. The act of throwing salt over the left shoulder is only done if salt has already been spilled. Salt was supposed to ward off the devil so spilling the salt encouraged his presence. To counteract this one throws salt over their left shoulder, because the left is where the devil comes, and then all is good again.

There is an old belief is that the morning is too early to be happy,Happiness has to be earned each day,Otherwise you you are sure to have bad luck!

Not all naturally occurring phenomenon can or should be interpreted as signs or omens. Unless the "bug" was of specific importance to you and/or your personal path, I'm inclined to think there is no significance to this.

This is actually a test of whether you are an optimist or a pessimist.

If an optimist, seeing an owl is good luck. If a pessimist, then its bad luck.

There are lots of mantras, spells and theories out there, but the real key is to change your outlook. Be glad with what you have and start taking the small steps to improve your decisions. For instance, if your car is a major drain on you, sell it for what you can and ride the bus. Save the money and buy a better one for cash later. Keep your home in order. Eat a balanced diet. Sleep well. Stop smoking or drinking or other bad habits. Be kind to everyone around you. Again, one step at a time - be gentle with yourself. When things are more stable, you will find that you will begin to prosper.

superstitions started back in the ancient times when our ancestors had no answer to why they saw there reflection or shadow they said it was their souls! so when u break something that has a reflection or ur shadow it would mean bad luck becuase the ancestors would think that there souls were harmed :D

When you have a dream that your best friend steals your dream guy, it simply means that you have been thinking about this situation in your conscious or subconscious mind. The meaning behind dreams is not easily deciphered. They do not usually mean exactly what they tell. So try not to take them literally. But if your best friend does steal your dream guy, then I think you should find a new best friend...

Most cats don't like to be kept indoors, so she's wanting outside to do her think! Because your cat goes outside it doesn't mean she's looking for a tom cat, or a tom cat is looking for a female. My cat Molly loves to go outside just around our gardens and sit in amongst the ferns and loves it when I go out and garden and will watch me for hours. She does have her 'friends' come around every so often. LOL

Generally speaking it is not specifically "Bad Luck," however, it is considered "pushing your luck" to give an expectant mother a Mother's Day gift.

The old traditions thought bring attention to a pregnant woman wasn't good. They even sequestered women (called a laying in) during the last month, or so, of her term.

Part of this was because pregnancy, labour, delivery and the first month of a baby's life were dangerous times, not so much due to "evil spirits" but a general lack of health care.

The card companies now carry a "Mom-to-be" card and if the pregnancy is in the final trimester with no complications, you might like to do something to help her celebrate.

However, even in this time of modern medicine, women do still have complications and infants sometimes do not survive. A Mother's Day card/gift that comes before the child always risks being a future reminder of a tragic event.

This very much depends on the culture. In the USA it is thought to be unluckly to have a black cat cross your path, whilst in the UK it is considered to be very lucky indeed.
