I'm not certain there is a specific knife gifting etiquette. It is perhaps best to give the best knife you can afford. Giving a cheap knife is like giving any other cheap gift. Keeping in mind that "cheap" and inexpensive" are not synonyms here.

Shop wise, shop well. And, if giving a pocket knife, have it personalized (engraved).

There does appear to be a substantial superstition behind giving knives, anything with a blade or cutting edge for that matter, as a gift. It seems the superstition goes that giving a cutting edge will sever the relationship.

Not to cast aspersions on this particular bit of personal belief, but it's bull. That is unless you subscribe to it so completely that you force it into being (self-fulfilling prophesy and all).

I would be honored and quite proud to receive a fine blade as a gift. So, anyone out there inclinded to do so, who knows me personally, I saw a beautifully crafted Zweihander several years ago, forged by a master swordsmith from central Illinois. If he is still in the craft, and you can locate him, I have a wall all picked out to hang it.

La Posdada was built in the late 1800's by the Stabb family. Julia stabb, her husband and six children lived in that house. Their seventh child died at a young age and Julia fell into depression, never to leave her room until her death. It is said that Julia still haunts La Posada. People claim to see her walking around tha hotell dressed in black. A couple who stayied in her room (room 100 as of Nov. 2009) awoke with their blankets piled in the far side of the room. another awoke to the sound of running water, finding that the bath tub fauset had turned on although the knobs were turned off. I, myself had had an experience in Julia stabb's room. At about 9pm, just before I went to bed, one of the pillows flew off the bed and hit the wall about 4 feet away. After we went to bed (my little brother was staying with me in the room) we both heard deep breathing (I was convinced that it was him snoring, but he says otherwise.) And My brother said he saw a shadow move across in the parlor part of the room.

Different people think differently. I personally don't believe in ghosts, but others may do. And I am pretty sure there ARE fake pictures of ghosts somewhere out there.

Some photos that seem to have some weird things in them may be caused by light and the condition of the camera. Some or most of the photos are actually fake or is a result of the reasons stated above. But some could be real.

The idea about belief is that they don't need a scientific explaination, so pretty much every belief and practice do not have real scientific explaination. The closest thing to a scientific explaination I have is that a certain type of energy is there and it can be controlled by humans; but there is little evidence to prove this.

In the religion of that region, they are believed to not just be symbols, but actually magical and are powerful fertility charms. They are a woman's most closely-guarded possession.

I think that the belief comes from Agnosticism. I only believe that because of the fact that they believe more in spirits rather than the whole God complex; and with that, (if i have my facts straight) that their soul/spirit will become one with the high spirit once their bodies die. Black crepe paper was long used (still is) for mourning banners. they hung the convent in Williamsport, Pa (in l962) with Black Crepe paper when a Nun died, specifically when her body was in the convent. _____________ It probably means that you look for black feathers whenever someone dies. There is a strong death superstition surrounding birds hitting the windows of a home. If a birds hits someone's home then someone in that house will die.

Not all naturally occurring phenomenon can or should be interpreted as signs or omens. In my research I have found no references to any curse or misfortune connected to the witnessing of the accidental death of a bird.

There is a superstition that it is bad luck to wash or do laundry on New Years Eve. There is no reason to think that there is any truth behind this belief.
