Why did Harolds army get lost behind?

Harold II. was informed by his messengers that his Norman cousin William had landed on England's shore near the little village of Hastings on September 28th 1066. Harold's victorious army was still worn out and tired from the encounter with the Vikings in the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th of September when they speedily had to march towards Hastings to defeat William, they arrived on the location in early October. Harold placed his camp on the top of a hill near Hastings and waited for William to attack.

William was well equipped when he commanded the Norman cavalry and a Breton foot regiment on October 14th, the day of the battle. The terrain was a muddy valley soaked with water from a recent rainfall, the Norman invaders got stuck in this valley facing Harold's hill. Harold would only have had to defend the Norman attacks and to protect his hill position.

The Normans had already suffered some losses and became impatient as they could not take the hill when the Breton foot soldiers heard the rumour that William was killed. Very little before their flight William strapped off his helmet, showed his face to his officers, cheered up his men and launched the cavalry attack on the hill. Now Harold tragically ordered his men to leave the hill top and to rush down to meet the enemy on the hill slope and in the muddy valley. To leave the safe hill position was a mistake to be swiftly answered with disaster. Together with his foot soldiers and cavalry William raced up the hill slope, passed by the English infantry and hopped over the camp palisades to fight with Harold who was killed by an arrow hitting his right eye before William could reach him. After the battle Harold II. was buried beneath the altar of a chapel close to the battlefield.

William moved on to London and was crowned in Winchester on Christmas Day 1066. He introduced French language, Norman culture, organisation, administration, discipline and everything else to England, ascertained the support of the English bishops and for four generations Norman kings sat on the English throne.

What do the battles have in common and what do they suggest Beowulf and his enemies might represent for the Anglo- Saxons?

In all of these battles, Beowulf is the stereotypical warrior. He sets out alone, and he relies msotly on his brute strength, as opposed to his wisdom, in order to accomplish his tasks. Consider his battle with Grendel - he holds onto Grendel with a vise-like grip until the monster's arm is ripped from his body. However, Beowulf is compassionate and he is intelligent. He sets out on all of these battles not for glory, but to help others, to serve his people. The biggest difference between the battles is in the last one, with the dragon. Here he allows another, Wiglaf, to come to his aid, recognizing that he is too old to take care of the situation himself.

How to protect my walls in my bathroom?

If it's from dampness you wish to protect from or mould from dampness there are 2 ways. Firstly, the cheaper way, is to use an oil base undercoat and then for the second coat use a mid sheen or vinyl silk emulsion. If that doesn't work, there are anti dampness or anti mould/fungus products such as owatrawl(not sure of the exact spelling, sorry). Again this would prime the walls, after all mould and dampness was scraped away first. Finish the walls with the normal paint later. I realise that some countries don't permit the use of oil based paints so straight to the latter for you guys. Maybe give the wall two coats of the owatrawl or equivalent which is actually used in a mix with normal emulsion. Remember to finish with the emulsion only. Preferably a mid sheen or silk/washable finish for rooms where condensation is typical.

How did the fendal system helped William?

The feudal system was a simple way of helping the king earn money, protection and food, when the king would give the barons a large piece of land if they would train knights for him. Than the barron would promise the knights a smaller piece of land to fight for him. Then the knights would get villeins to farm for them for an even smaller piece of land. It helped william get control as it was a very organised way to control the country and the rankings of the King, Barons, Knights and villeins are clearly stated.
