Francis Tresham died in the Tower without having ever been publicly examined. It is not known if he died of a painful inflammation from being given too little to drink, or if he was helped on to his death.

What was The Gunpowder Plot?

The leader of the 1605 Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament was Robert Catesby. Guy Fawkes effigy is burned on Bonfire Night each November 5th in Britain to this day. King James the 1st was the object of the attempt, the conspiritors were Catholics opposed to a Protestant King, their idea was to kill the king and the parliament, then create a new Catholic Britain but it would never have worked as only about 5% of Britain were Catholic so they would've been killed either way. So whether or not the fuse was lit, it would never have worked.

Why did the catholics decide to blow up up the king?

In 1604 Fawkes became involved with a small group of English Catholics, led by Robert Catesby, who planned to assassinate the Protestant King James and replace him with his daughter, third in the line of succession, Princess Elizabeth

What were the causes of the Gunpowder plot?

A cause of the Gun-powder plot is that Catholics in England had expected James to be more tolerant of them. In fact, he had proved to be the opposite and had ordered all Catholic priests to leave England. This so angered some Catholics that they decided to kill James and put his daughter Elizabeth on the throne ensuring that she was a Catholic. This led to a plot to kill not only the king of England, James, but also everyone sitting in the Houses of Parliament at the same time as James was there when he opened Parliament on November 5th, 1605.

Was it really Guy Fawkes who planned the gun powder plot?

How does gunpowder work?

Gunpowder burns but it burns very quickly. It's very reactive with oxygen. When enough heat is applied, either externally or from itself, the reaction progresses very rapidly and the gunpowder "explodes."

*********

Agree in general. Gunpowder consists of a fuel and an oxidizer mixed together- it does not need additional oxygen. The original gunpowder was black powder- a "low" explosive- modern gunpowder is based on nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin- "High" explosives. When triggered by heat, the fuel and oxidizer combine rapidly, producing large quantities of hot, expanding gas. This gas pushes the bullet out of the barrel.

When was gunpowder invented?

The Chinese used gunpowder as early as 800-1000 AD, for fireworks and later for weapons. It was not in widespread use in Europe until around the 1300s.

Why is gunpowder so important?

The invention of gunpowder by the Chinese in the 9th century allowed for warfare to be carried to a greater distance (via the use of rockets, what today we would call fireworks).

The addition of a metal tube propelling a slug at high velocity (muskets, cannon and rifles) gave the individual soldier the ability to strike at the enemy more quickly and accurately, while doing greater damage as well. (Prior to this, soldiers needed to use weapons such as bows and slings, which required a great deal of both strength and skill to operate successfully.)

As with almost all military technologies, this eventually led to the development of counter-strategies, including iron-walled vehicles and ships, foxholes (long protective trenches) and body armor. It even gave rise (for example) to the modern spread-out city with its surrounding suburbs, by rendering the protective stone walls of the Middle Ages almost useless.

In short, the development of long-range warfare spurred the advancement of science, leading (directly and indirectly) to many of today's modern conveniences. And by affecting which side won a given battle, it defined the countries and political systems of the world as we know it today.

How do you dispose of Gunpowder?

Since gunpowder is explosive (!) I always make sure it is made safe by wetting it - water works fine, but will also create a chemical mix that is potentially hazardous.
As for the regulations in your state/country, I would advice contacting the proper authorities - Apart from the explosiveness, gunpowder is also a chemical hazard even in small amounts.
Where I live (Sweden) I would talk to the local recycling facility - Small amounts I am sure they will handle if contacted.
Larger amounts have never been an issue for me - Maybe contact a ammunition factory or a private/professional cartridge loader and hear if they have means to dispose of it for you?

How did cecil help the gunpowder plot?

Some people believe that Cecil wanted the plotters to be caught in the act of blowing up parliament. An anonymous letter was sent to Lord Monteagle (a Catholic) warning him to skip Parliament. This letter was kept for a week until Robert Cecil showed it to James I and they searched the cellars. A fortnight before Guy Fawkes was discovered, Cecil wrote to James I's servant saying this: “I spend my time in sowing so much seed as my poor wretched fingers can scatter, in such a season as may bring forth a plentiful harvest. I dare boldly say no shower or storm shall mar our harvest except it should come from beyond the middle region.” The plotters were from the Midlands ( middle regions).

Was the gunpowder plot a dangerous threat?

because it was an act of treason and it was going to kill the king and all in Parliament.
