Why is the Emergency brake light on in a corolla?

If the handbrake light stays on when handbrake is off the easiest thing to check first is the brake fluid level. The light was on for a month on my '96 Corolla before I noticed the low brake fluid level. After topping the fluid up the light no longer came on while driving. Note that you should only use freshly opened brake fluid - stuff that has been open for a while will have absorbed moisture from the air reducing its effectiveness.

If the brake fluid level is OK then the handbrake cable probably needs adjusting (probably loosening) so the light does not come on too soon, or stay on when it shouldn't. Another possibility is the parking brake engagement sensor, a mechanical switch that is engaged when the parking brake lever is activated. It may have gotten stuck in the on position and need to be cleaned or replaced.

Why does Oil light come on when you use the brakes on a 1981 Toyota?

Oil light indicates low oil pressure.

When the engine revolution decreases, such as during braking or idle, oil pressure drops. If the pressure is too low, oil light will come on.

Possible causes:

Most likely cause is a leaky oil-pressure switch. If you see that oil is leaking from the oil-pressure switch, you need to replace the oil-pressure switch. Tighten the new switch to the correct tightening torque specified in the repair manual but do not overtighten. A leak at the oil-pressure switch causes the oil-pressure switch to give incorrect low-oil pressure warning (oil light) because the leak causes the pressure to drop around the oil switch. If this is the case, it would be easy to fix the problem.

If this is not the case, there may be other oil leaks in the engine or a faulty oil pump or other engine problems.

Also, obviously, make sure that your engine is not nearly stalling during braking, which would also cause the oil light to come on due to very low engine speed.

What do loose motor mounts sound like?

Motor mounts don't make noise themselves, but the motor moving might. With the hood up and a helper stand to the side of the car. Put the car in gear, while holding the brake pedal down, and give it some gas. Do the same thing in reverse. You should see the motor physically move if there is a broken mount.

Does 1999 Toyota Corolla turn check engine light on for certain mileage for service?

I believe so, like most Toyotas the "check engine" light will flash for about 30 seconds of starting the engine after 4500 miles since last service and will remain on constantly after 5000 miles.

How do you change the lights in the dashboard of a 98 Toyota Corolla The center light is out the light in the air conditioning control is also out as well as one in your gear shift?

I know that the light for the air conditioner/heater controls is one bulb. Remove the two screws on the bottom that hold the front panel, remove the finger slides from their control arms, and "un snap" the panel. You may have to unseat the center air conditioner ducts from the panel. There will be a long clear light defuser that looks like a prizim. remove it by prying one end out and behind it there is the light bulb. Wholaa!

I failed my smog check on my 1.8L 1995 Toyota Corolla due to ignition timing so what is the correct ignition timing for my car and how do I fix it?

What is your ignition timing? I ran into the same problem. My 95 Corolla failed the first time when I took it for the test. Every thing was very good except the ignition timing. I took it back to my tune up mechanic and asked him why because I did a major tune up before going for the smog. My experienced mechanic looked at my car and told me that for the particular model that I have (made in Canada as opposed to the ones made in USA and/or Japan), the ignition timing can not be adjusted. He showed me the data from his computer and yes, for those that should be adjusted, it should be 10. But those have a different shape. The data the smog mechanics (who provided the data?) are getting do not take into account the differences betw diff models. He told me to should the smog tech under the car hood there is a sticker which indicates what should be adjusted and ignition timing is not there, and "No Other Adjustments Needed" is there. He told me some newer cars don't allow ignition timing adj so people won't make the wrong adj.

He told me to look at the smog inpection data when I bought it 2 yrs ago, and under the ignition timing it was N/A. So I went back to the smog tech and showed him. He believed me and my Corolla passed it. I wish whoever provided those smog data specs to the smog techs could update them. It was an unnessary trip to my tune up mechanic and back to the smog mechanic and the pollution created and what was the purpose of the smog inspection?

Is the fuel pump for a 99 Toyota Corolla accessible from the trunk or is it a tank drop?

It is actually accessible from inside the car. First disconnect the battery. Open up the driver's and passenger's side rear door and then go to the driver's side rear. Pull up on the front of the back seat and pull it out of the car. There should be a panel that you can see that you can use a screwdriver to pry up(it is only held down by RTV). Disconnect the electrical connection from the top of the unit. Unscrew the bolts around the top of the fuel filter/pump unit and pull it out. That's it.

Approximately how much is repair for a bent hood loose bumper broken front grate and scratched paint on a Toyota Camry?

Don't do it. I just got a quote from my local junkyard on a hood for a 91 Camry and they said it was $100. of course that's without paint, but you could find the same color car to begin with, since the Camry is so common. The bumper is probably another $100. The paint costs them $200-300, probably less. So total cost is $500 (without labor, just for parts, if you did it yourself) they are profiting over $2500 for something that can be done in a day or two.

I have a dented hood in a 99 Camry right now actually and I'm about to fix it myself.

Sources: boycotting the mechanic and doing everything myself for years.

The horn of your 1991 Toyota Corolla just stopped working how can you fix it?

check for a horn fuse While pushing the horn button repeatedly, listen for a clicking sound either in the cabin (under the dash) or under the hood. If you hear that, the power is going to the horn and thus the horn is bad. It either isn't grounded properly or is defective. Ground or replace it. You could, of course, look for a voltage between the hot horn line and ground when the button is pushed but that requires a 2nd person to push the button.

What are the windshield wiper sizes on a 2002 to 2008 Toyota Corolla?

The 2002-2008 Toyota Corolla wiper blade sizes are 24" drivers and 18" passenger side wiper blades. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only. Be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.

How do you replace a rear wheel bearing on a 1997 Toyota Corolla?

first remove hubcap (if any) then remove the wheel. remove the drum, and you will see the hub/bearing unit, it should be bought at a Toyota dealer as a whole kinda pricey, but always try to stay with OEM. look behind the hub and as you turn the hub(where the 4 lugs are) you will see 4 other 14mm bolts on the black backing plate. remove them and it should come out. if not, a little tap with a rubber mallet will do the trick. the 2 holes on top are spaced further than the 2 bottom holes, so careful while installing. hand tighten all bolts first then tighten to specs. good luck
