How do you change brakes on a 2004 Toyota Highlander?

The step-by-step process would take MUCH too long to describe here, and in most manuals is accompanied by illustrated diagrams or pictures. Your best bet is to buy, borrow, or rent a repair manual (Toyota/Chilton's/Haynes).

When to change timing belt on 2007 highlander?

Apart from changing the engine oil and the oil filter at recommended intervals, car and pick-up owners should pay some serious attention to regular maintenance and the timing belt is among the most important things to consider. This belt (or in some cases a metallic chain) connects the engine crankshaft with the camshaft. The latter has the important function of controlling the closing and the opening of the valves in the cylinder head. Now, there is a lot of things these belts must endure, such as tension, running at high speed and temperature differences. They must therefore be made of durable material. Different manufacturers will recommend different specifications when it comes to the approximate life of these belts. This may range from 60.000 up to 100.000 miles. As the repair is as a rule costly if the belt breaks, it is a good rule of thumb to change them according to these specifications. In my opinion, 100.000 miles is an absolute upper limit and I would change the belt before this mileage was achieved. The reason is, it is cheap to replace the belt but expensive to rebuild or change the cylinder head. There is a belt tensioner that serves to keep the belt under constant tension, this is sometimes or often changed too. On many or most car models there is an indicator light in the dashboard that lights up after a certain mileage, in Japanese and European models this is most often confined to 100.000 km. Vehicle owners should be aware that a belt seldom breaks, slippage is more common but the effects are the same, catastrophical engine failure followed by expensive repair. The wheels on which the belt runs have "teeth" for better contact with the belt, the teeth may get worn out or "stripped" as it is called in the industry. If the belt is not tight enough, it will flap and whip inside its housing at the front of the engine, if it is too tight a screaming sound will result, indicating high strain on the bearings of the "cog" wheels. Bearings can also give or break, with a similar result, belt slippage when cog wheels even break off. Having this in mind, and the serious consequences of neglecting regular belt change, car owners will soon realize the importance of regularly changing timing belts. However, on newer vehicles, where the owner follows the producer's maintenance and guarantee "book" that comes with the vehicle, qualified auto mechanics will see to the replacement of the timing belt. With older vehicles, such as those that have often changed owners, checking the timing belt will be among the first things a new owner needs to do.

Where is the oil filter located on 2005 Toyota Tundra V8?

I believe ALL Tundra V8 Models years 2000 thru 2005 have the oil filters in the same location. Therefore it is located on the drivers side front bottom of the engine. It cannot be seen without removing a very simple Plastic(4X2) or Metal(4X4) skid plate. Once the skid plate is removed (8-9 12mm bolts and two plastic push-pull buttons then slide toward the rear to unhook "watch your head") the filter it very visible and accessible. Remember when changing oil filters DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!!! once the new rubber gasket makes contact with its seat only turn 1/2 to 3/4 turn more and never use a wrench. Good Luck!

What is the gross vehicle weight of the 2011 Toyota Highlander?

2006 Toyota Highlander Maint Required light on had oil change and service done light still on how do you get off?

With the car on, set your odometer to the odometer reading (as opposed to trip A or trip B).

Turn the car off.

Now hold the same button down and turn on the car. Your dash should show a graphic that is counting down the time until it resets itself. When it says "complete", let go of the button and you are good to go for another 5,000 miles.

Where is the oil filter on a 2008 Toyota Highlander?

There is an access panel inboard of the front right tire. It's oddly shaped but about 6in by 6in with two bolts holding it on. The filter is an "element only" type (Fram CH9972). The new filter (Fram did-don't know about others) has an excellent instruction sheet detailing how to drain the filter prior to removing it. You will need a 65mm oil filter wrench for the housing. It is actually very easy once you see what it takes to do the change.

Adding to this answer: I have a 2008 Highlander Hybrid Limited. V6 engine. I'm not sure what vehicle the above poster has, but I found my oil filter in a different place, just starboard of the car's center, coming off the engine block toward the hood latch. It's about four inches starboard (left as you face the vehicle). The filter is concealed by the exhaust manifold cover, but if you lean your head down by the battery and hit the filter with a flashlight, you can just see the top of it. Anyway, I had to wait for the manifold to cool off before I could safely get to the filter, about an hour. My Highlander had no filter cover, access door, and there was no way to approach the filter from below.

I also couldn't figure out how to remove it without a mess, so I stuffed the area below it, and the exhaust manifold, with rags, and they got SOAKED. It was only by dumb luck that I had left the pan to collect drained oil under the car, or else I would have had a stain on the garage floor.

Once I cleaned up the mess, getting the new filter on was pretty easy, but I did have to do it by feel.

Good luck! For the Limited Hybrid Highlander, it is easier to remove the plastic guard below the radiator to obtain access to the oil filter. This requires removing about 8 hex bolts and 2 plastic tension clasps. Now you will have all the accessibility you need for an easy removal and installation. For my 2008 Highlander Hybrid, (1) remove cool air intake duct seal -- 11 fasteners, (2) remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly (two screws and 4 clamps), (3) oil filter is below metal sheilds and oil canister is not visible, so you need to feel for it -- a oil drain path is provided when you loosen the oil canister.

How do you fill transmission fluid 2000 Honda Odyssey?

I have read several postings on other sites where people just suggest a funnel with a narrow enough tube to fill through the dipstick hole (the yellow fingerloop dipstick to the left of the battery), However the actual "fill" hole is located just behind that ( towards the firewall). There is a 17 mm bolt plugging the hole. It's just slightly larger than the other bolts around it, and it has "ATF" stamped on top of it. Hope this Helps!!

What is the wheel base of the 2014 Toyota Highlander?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander has a 9 ft. 1.8 in. (109.8 in.) wheel base.

What size wiper blades fit a 2009 Toyota Highlander?

The 2009 Toyota Highlander takes a 26" drivers side, 20" passenger side and a fairly specialized 12" rear wiper that is difficult to find in the stores. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are currently over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.

How do you lubricate squeaky belts on 2005 Toyota Highlander limited?

Do NOT "lubricate" the belts. It is likely that the belt is old and probably 'glazed' - or one of the components is not properly lined up with the belt - or the tensioner pulley is too weak or not adjusted properly.

What if you put diesel in your gas tank for a Toyota Highlander?

What is the maximum mileage of a car or does it change depending on being European Japanese or American?

Most people don't know that American cars get worse mileage. This is because the EPA requires less pollution, NOT overall, but PPM (parts per million) Think on this. Pollution is the release of carbon, There is A certain amount of carbon in everything that is or was alive in the past. You cannot reduce the amount of carbon A gallon of gas has in it, If you take A gallon of gas, there is A certain amount of carbon in there, That will not change. The EPA wants lower emisions. The auto makers set up US cars to run "LEANER" on gas. That means that they put in less gas than the motor needs to run properly. Now, to get the same amount of work from the motor you have to give it more gas. because you are already giving it way too much air. So A trip that would take one gallon of gas actually takes more than one gallon. But the cars emisions are down, because the PPM in the exhaust is lower. The car is being fed 15% more air but they have to add 5% more gas to make up for it. ,Then they stand and say that they lowered the emmisions by 10%. The PPM is lower but the amount of carbon released by the car in its lifetime is H I G H E R !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you change a front headlight on a 1998 Dodge Stratus?

Open the hood You will see the headlights and they are covered by a plastic, and/or metal piece on the top of the headlight. If you look at each head light there is 2 "star shaped" screws. very distinct, and they are spaced on one the upper right and on on the lower bottom of this piece covering the headlights. Unscrew them both... they are very long screws. Pull out both screws, and keep them somewhere safe. The headlights will pull directly out with some minor wiggling, and there will be a wiring harness attached to each that is attached to the bulb. Now if your bulbs are good you can disconnect the wire by gently pulling it off, and then pop out the bulb. There is a black connector on the bulb, just turn till it loosens, and take the bulb right out. Then just set aside the bulb in a safe area, because if you bought a new headlight it most likely wont come with the bulb. I suggest getting a 9700 size bulb white light running from 30-50 bucks for the set. The stock bulbs blow. Now you have the screws out, the wiring harness off, and the bulb and its connector off. grab your new headlight, and place the old bulb (or new one) in the slot, and replace the plastic holder, and turn it till it locks. I suggest getting bulb grease, and rubbing it on the plastic bearing for a very easy installation and it will help in not damaging the bulb. next just plug in the wiring harness, and reset your headlight in so you can line up the holes so the screws can get in there nice and easy. Also notice when you are screwing the screws back in.... in between the holes there is a level... wipe it off if you cant read it and make sure it is level before you fully tighten or you are gonna have some light issues later on. Once the level is at 0 (or in the middle) tighten them screws nice and snug.

How do you align the driver door to my 2002 GMC Envoy It rattles and hear road and wind noise Thanks?

Usually you adjust the striker bolt or loop thing on the inside of the door opening. It is what the door latch connects to. There will usually be either one big bolt or a loop kind of thing with two bolts. loosen the bolt\bolts and slide it towrd the inside of the vehicle( to tighten up the door.) If this doesnt work then the hinge bolts can be loosened and the door adjusted up or down to get the proper fit. If you try this just loosen the hinge bolt just enough to slightly move the door up and down then retighten and try it. Usually takes several times (trial and error.) The last thing to try is to slightly "tweek" the door at the top side of it. This means that you actually "bend" the door slightly to get better fit. This is actually a pretty common practice when repairing wrecked autos. Another thing to check is to make sure that your molding around the door is properly seated and in good shape. This can cause "wind" noise also. Hope this helps.
