If you're referring to your headlights ability to turn on automatically at dusk and off at dawn disabling involves digging into your dash and snipping a wire connected to the light sensor (on your dash). You can find those instructions posted on another (Solara specific) website. Frankly, it's much simpler just to use the headlight switch to manually control the headlights. If you're referring to your daytime running lights (DRL) the solution is simple. Open your hood and walk around to the passenger side of the car. Just behind the strut tower you'll see a large gray plug. Disconnect the plug. Close the hood. Done!

Yes there is a fuse associated with the clock. It is the same fuse for the Cigarrette lighter, check the small panel by the drivers side pull out the coin holder and look at the diagram at the back to find where the fuse is.

There are two transmissions available depending on Solara model. With the V-6 engine all come with the 5-Speed Sequential Automatic Transmission w/ECT-i. It's a so-called "sport shift" transmission that (kind of ) allows you to shift for yourself or leave it in Drive like most auto transmissions.

In the sport-shift mode you move the shift lever back or forward to down or upshift. You can also leave it in a specific gear (like third or fourth) for driving around town and the transmission will shift like a normal auto trans until it gets to that gear then won't go any further. Here's the 'sort of' part. The transmission won't let the driver screw up. Try to downshift at too high a speed for a chosen gear and all you get is a 'beep' that's saying "not now stupid." If you fail to upshift to the next gear and the engine is nearing redline the shift will be made for you whether you move the lever or not.

The other transmission is a standard five-speed manual. It's only available on the SE Coupe and SE Sport Coupe with 4 cylinder engine.

I try not to tread on another persons answer, and the information in this one is excellent. I just wanted to add that I have listed on several sites that for the 06 Solara there are 3 different possibilities. The actual models are as follows.

It makes a difference if you are trying to buy repair parts. If you open your driverside door and look at the information sticker you will find one of these numbers. It might be off by itself on the right side but it should be there. If its missing then you might be able to do a VIN number check. Jonathn1

Their more money look at the underside of the hood and it should tell you if it's calif.

Typically you'd attach a pressure gauge to the fuel rail or wherever the shop manual dictates then turn on the key. If the pressure is within spec you're good to go. If it's low pump replacement may be indicated.

The 1999 Toyota Solara takes 22" drivers and 21" passenger side wiper blades. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only. make sure the odometer displays miles(not trip)

push the trip reset button and hold it in

turn the key off

turn the key back on

keep holding the button in until the flashing lines on the odometer disappear and the numbers come back.

If you're referring to the accessory (cigarette lighter) plug the fuse is in the interior fusebox (left side under the dash). You'll find a fuse guide inside the cover. The one you need is labeled ACC. The same information is available in your owner's manual.

If you jump start it and the battery is dead you will have to wait about 15 minutes with the jump car running and connected to the dead battery, in order to build the battery up enough for it to actually take a jump.

It means that air bags in your car did not past self-test. Your car must have warranty bring it to the dealer's place and do not mess around SRS because it cost you a lot to repair. When you can do it for free (if you have warranty).

It is HIDDEN behind the little storage compartment on the left side of steering wheel, near where your knee would be.

Just lift out the little storage cubby/door piece, and the fuse box lies behind it.

Yes, it's the same as the '04 and all generation II Solara models.

It'll help if you can get the car in the air a little. Remove the splash shield under the front of the car. It's held on by several plastic and metal fasteners but all are Phillips type screwdriver heads.

Once you've removed the plastic panel you can reach the foglight housings. Turn the socket to the left and pull it toward the rear of the car. Remove the bulb by pushing down and twisting to the left then pull out. Replacement is the opposite of removal.

It's so easy....even a girl can do it ;)

I thought the SLE only came with a 6-cylinder engine -- Looks like I learned something today or you need to take another look under the hood.

Good news, the 4 cylinder engine used in all Solara models uses a timing 'chain' and not a belt. There's no maintenance needed. The 6-cylinder models require a belt change at 90,000 miles or ten years whichever comes first.

Open the trunk. On each side (at the rear) you'll see a flap that can be opened in the trunk liner. Open that flap and (with help from a flashlight) you'll see the light sockets. Twist the appropriate one to the left and pull it out. Replace the bulb with the identical number (listed in your owner's manual). Replace by reversing the procedure.

If you're referring to instrument lighting take a look at the stem you press to zero/toggle the trip meters. Turning that stem left will dim the instrument lighting, to the right brightens. That's the procedure for the Gen II (04 and later) Solara. The Gen I may be different. The information is in your owner's manual.

If you're referring to a cabin air filter the Gen I Solara's (through '03) aren't equipped with one. Gen II's have a cabin filter, it's located in the heat/air duct right behind the glove compartment. Cheers,

First, check your owners manual to determine the oil grade recommended by Toyota. You'll see a specific weight or viscosity (I.E. 5W-40, 10W-40 etc) along with service class ( SM, SL, SJ) and then consider the type of driving you do. Synthetics are generally better for severe duty uses but conventional oils are easier on the pocketbook.
