Do any African Americans come from Puerto Rico?

how many African Americans are in puetorico

Answer: 1st of all , forget the political correct terminology .

Puerto Rico was originally settled by the people called Tainos , they are from the greater tribe known as the Caribes and the greater tribes called the Ottawa (excuse my spelling) , they are dark skinned people as you might compare people from South America but not Black African .

Spain colonized PR for about 400 years and mixed with the Tainos , then some African Slaves settled and then in the 20th century Americans settled .

So to answer your question - Some areas you may find very dark Puerto Ricans of African decent but My guess its about 10% .

The Island of Hispannola (Hati & Dominican Republic) have much more in the order of African decent .

*********************************************************************

Wake up and smell the coffee. There are no white, black or Indian Puertoricans. Even the lighter skinned Puertoricans have some black roots in them. The same goes for the Dominican Republic, Haiti and all the other small islands in the Caribbean. That is why a Puertorican is a Puertorican, you can't classify us as any other race or color, I myself would be considered an octaroon in a city like New Orleans and I'm proud of it. I don't mean any offense, but your post is clearly lacking in research and it's clear you either are not Puertorican, don't live on the island, or never been there at all.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Aparently you misundestood either the question or my answer (and I Have been in PR 5 times and Im in Moca right now for 3 Kings Day).

I felt that the question was flawed as (as you stated) there are no single races in PR .

And as I said there is a big mix that has come about over the past 400 years .

There are white , black , Carib mixed races all over the Island .

They are ALL American and not African , they are puerto Ricans .

Is that better ?

Tell me about a challenge you solved?

Answer

I was a Foreman on an Industrial Paint Line Process. Each piece gets washed with special chemical baths and there seemed to be a green dust on the parts that had been washed. The company new that I didn't have the answer to the problem so they called in the experts. None of these supposedly called Experts could find that problem either. One day I was walking through the Paint Department and a piece brushed against a white T Shirt I was wearing and I saw this green dust up close and personal. I knew right away what it was and fixed the problem, but kept it to myself. It wasn't long before the Inspection Department found out that the problem had been resolved and they came running to see what I had done. Talk about a moment of Glory, what a feeling to have succeeded in solving this problem and with the feeling of Glory, came a $.75 cent raise. Everyone had given up including me, until I found that stuff on my T-Shirt. Probably that was one of the biggest highlights of my Painting Career.

What is the Bible quote that says something along the lines of Do not have a bad influence on people people should be better because they have known you?

This probably isn't what you are looking for, but I don't have much to go on. 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God. 32 Don't cause others to stumble, whether they are Jewish, Greek, or members of God's church. 33 I try to please everyone in every way. I don't think about what would be good for me but about what would be good for many people so that they might be saved. 1 Cor 10:31-33 (GW)

What are US Navy ocean crossing certificates?

Navy Ocean Crossing Certificates (Unofficial, of course) are many and wide. I'm a Bluenose (twice), but there are many, many others that have ceremonies and certificates that are documented by the Naval Historical Center in Washington (See URL link below). Some other examples are:

Order of Magellan - Global Circumnavigation

Order of the Rock - Transiting the Straits of Gibraltar (Inchop - Outchop)

Order of the Ditch - Transiting the Panama Canal

Shellback - Crossing the Equator at any point

Golden Dragon - Crossing the International Date Line (180th Meridian)

Golden Shellback - Crossing the Equator at the 180th Meridian

Emerald Shellback - Crossing the Equator at the Prime Meridian (Greenwich)

Order of the Red Nose - Crossing the Antarctic Circle

Order of the Spanish Main - Cruising the Caribbean

Most are variations on the Golden Dragon or Shellback tradition, the 2 oldest, but each has their own unique ceremony. For example, Blue and Red Nose ceremonies are a "bit colder" than those of the Golden Shellback. Though unofficial, some events are noted in the crewmember's service record, in particular if it coincides with a historic event. Examples are the first cruise of the Nautilus, and the first multi-submarine surfacing at the Geographic North Pole, of which I was privileged to be a part of. Some are just notes that the member participated, as evidence of fact so that the person doesn't have to go through it again. Though not officially required, the decision to not participate in a crew event involving a Navy tradition isn't well received by those who do, and as such most of the crew will go through the ceremony.

In some cases where Latitude and Longitude coordinates are entered on the certificate, one may be omitted if the specific crossing location and date is classified. This was the case on both of my Bluenose certificates, where the Latitude was entered (66° 33′ 44″ N), but the Longitude (point where we crossed the Arctic Circle) was purposely omitted since it was classified.

Sometimes ceremonies aren't performed at all. I've also been through the Straits of Gibraltar and have been through the Caribbean more times than I can count, but we never did a ceremony for any of them.

Can you quit the navy?

You can, but you'll be considered AWOL and a fugitive from then on. Trust me when I say that the military does not have a sense of humor when it comes to deserters or those who just leave.

The only ways of leaving are by Medical, Honorable, other than Honorable, or Bad Conduct Discharge. Military service contracts are extremely binding - before you sign, you'd better understand exactly that you're giving up your rights for however long your hitch is.

There is one way that some sailors have beaten the system, but it's with the assistance of a national government, and that was many years ago - it may not be the same today. Usually when ships visit Australia, they leave with 1 or more fewer crewmembers. Australia is a country that has a high female - male ratio - there aren't that many men, and the Australian government tries to attract capable individuals. But make no mistake - you'd still be a wanted fugitive in the U.S., and would never be able to return. There's always something that you miss that will get you caught.

Can your employer find out anything about your military record with or without a signed waiver from you?

In my 8 years experience in Human Resources, specifically in the field of Recruiting/Staffing, I can testify to the fact that employers can only verify military service through a DD214. Of course through credit verification and address verification we can easily determine if falsification has been deliberatly given. But overall, the DD214 is the main source of verification.

There's one other wayCourts-martial convictions appear on your criminal record, and some employers run criminal records checks.
