If you can change flashlight batteries you can do this one. Open the tail hatch, and watch your head, since any 240 DL tailgate usually will fall right back onto you. Look behind the tail light in question, inside the car. There should be a plastic access panel that snaps out or opens with a lever or something. Open it. Locate the round plastic thing for the bulb in question--compare with the other side of the car that works to be sure. Then twist counterclockwise to remove the bulb holder. Remove the bulb and inspect to see if it looks bad--blackened or rattles or you can see a broken filament. Get a replacement. Reverse to assemble. Clean contacts before assembly, and clean any corrosion you find, and seal the leak that allowed the corrosion to occur with some silicone sealant. Test your work. If it was a turn signal, your turn signal should blink now at the correct speed (they always blink too fast when a bulb has failed). If it was a brake light, get someone to check it for you while you press the brake, or wait until dark and do it yourself. Always test--it could be some other problem (although usually it is in fact a bad bulb).

i own the same vehicle. and mine was doing the same thing. replacing the plugs and wires helped but you will need to check the cap and rotor. if the cap and rotor are original i recommend replacing them. napaonline.con has all the parts cheep total amount was under 100 bucks

This may not be much help but I have a 1984 UK Volvo 240 dl which I changed the fluid on some years ago. As I recall it was simply a case of undoing a drain plug on the transmission casing and refilling after undoing another nut physically higher up the casing.

The cold start valve is sometimes called the fifth injector. It is mounted to the intake air distribution box and is in line with the fuel rail. It has an electrical connection, a fuel inlet line and a fuel outlet line. The valve is essentially constructed the same as the regular fuel injectors. The main difference is that the cold start valve injection time is measured in seconds rather than in milliseconds like the regular injectors.

Begin by removing the alternator tensioner bolt. Slide the alternator to the left. Remove the alternator belt. Reverse the process to install the new alternator belt.

I have had this issue when my Volvo has sat for long periods of time... Best bet might be to make sure the battery has a charge, and if it has sat for a long time, keep trying to start it andpress the gas to get gas to the engine.

very simple, you need a funnel and to check atf level when hot(run car for 20 minutes ,driving prefeably).....atf dipstick is yellow next to motor oil(red).put funnel in dipstick hole,you probly should seady it with one hand & pour in atf ...if level is stil low give atf as needed be carefull not to over fill as the pressure from over fill will cause leaking....hope this helpd'

The 1987 Volvo hood release is under the dash close to the drivers side door. It is a large round handle that looks more like a jar lid than something to pull.

If it has an electric cooling fan in front of the radiator, the relay is a black rectangular 4 pin located on the bracket next to the left shock tower. If you are asking about a relay for the blower fan in the car, there is no relay

Check the overdrive relay switch.

Check O/D switch by all means....but the most common problem is usually the Overdrive Relay. It's located behind the centre vents on your model, replace with EXACTly same part no. .....other similar relays will drive you crazy by disengaging each time you turn engine off - requiring you to remember to click it ON again.

First I would try replacing the cable(s). If that didn't work, I would try replacing the gauges themselves. Good luck!! :^) The odometer/speedometer are not cable driven, they are electronic

from 1986-1993. There are two small plastic gears in the gauge itself

that become old and brittle. When they lose a gear tooth, the gauge

will stop registering. The gears are available through Ebay sellers

and several online vendors. The speedometer uses an electronic sensor on the rear differential. It could be anything from the sensor, wiring or the gauge itself. The odometer may be related. If the speedo won't go, obviously the odo won't either. There is an odo kit available from IPD.

Pull on them. They are held on with spring clips.

If just one stopped working, it's probably a loose nut where the arm attaches (most common), or the cable between the arms broke under the dash (less common). If they both stopped working it could be the motor. Often the motors need an auxiliary ground wire to work, but they also just fail. Check to make sure it's getting power when the wipers are switched on (with the key on). There should be constant power, ground, and switch power to a different wire for each speed.

It has two. The first is in the fuel tank, look under trunk mat for cover. Then to remove the filter you must knock the spin lock counterclockwise with a hammer and chisel carefully. The second is in the fuel line in front of the rear driver tire, a little bit in there. Its underneath a securing plate and the plate has three bolts that need to removed to show the filter and pressure fuel pump. Sometimes it mite be hard to find the plate because of years of gunk and filth so you also follow the fuel line from the tank there. It is a can looking filter in the fuel line. The in line fuel filter doesnt need to changed often, but dont just forget about it. A plugged fuel filter can leave u stranded, it happened to me, dont let it happen to u!

Remove the fuse from the fuse box. Or remove the relay.
