Where is the fuel pump fuse for a 1990 Volvo 240?

Fuel pump fuse is on the main fuse panel behind the front rubbish tray (directly in front of the gear lever in European cars). If you look at the bottom of the flip out door with it closed, you will see a push up lever, push it up and pull towards you at the same time and it will pop out, behind it is the main fuse board and relay board. On the bin as it comes out, there will be a white number coded sticker with the numbers relating to the fuse positions, and it tells you what runs off which fuse.

Hope that helps.

Incidentally the main fuel pump relay is second back on the left hand side of the relay board - if you search fuel pump relay under google images you will pick up a couple of useful pointers. Good luck.

One for brake lights, one for cruise control. If you hit the brakes when using cruise control, that second switch is what tells the control modules that the brake is being depressed.

1993 Volvo 240 that makes a single clunk right as the engine turns over Otherwise it runs and idles fine What could cause this clunk?

If it doesn't repeat the sound while the engine is running, especially accelarating or decellerating, it is probably related to the starter pinion gear or the flywheel/flexplate ring gear. When the starter gear engages the flywheel/flexplate, there is a small portion of gear tooth missing. It starts to catch and slips, slamming into the next gear and then engaging. Eventually, you'll lose another and yet another tooth, producing a dead spot to an extent the car won't start.

What type of gas for Volvo 850?

Volvo recommends premium, but it can run on regular just fine without affecting the life of the engine.

In turbo models, the ECU dials back the turbo if you feed it regular, so performance will decrease, but the engine will run just fine.

Can you change and auto trans to manual in a Volvo 240 wagon?

the short answer is yes. i have done this project three times in the past 15 years.

there are a lot of variables depending on the year. its really best to have a donor car

for this project. some year cars you will need to swap out the entire drive line, plus

change the instrument cluster and front wiring loom.

the manual transmission with overdrive is longer than the auto transmission. also cable driven speedometer vs. electronic speedometer with the speed sensor in the rear deferential.

it can be a daunting task. but if you like the feel of a manual transmission and have a nice car it is well worth it. i would not do this project without a donor car. nuf said.

AC refrigerant used for '90 Volvo 240 sedan?

R12

I owned a 91 Volvo 240 with inop AC for 6 years. I refused to get the R12 system fixed because of the damage that R12 does to the ozone (it is also expensive and restricted in distribution). I just sold that car last week and got a car with an R134a AC system..........I feel better.

How do you adjust the Air Conditioner Compressor Belt on a 1986 Volvo 240?

The A/C Belt is adjusted (like old VW beetles ) at the crankshaft pulley w/ shims ! Removing shims from behind the front half of the pulley makes the belt tighter ! Yes there are 6 10mm head bolts which should be loosened evenly until the front half of the pulley and the belt can be removed ! Put the old shims on the outside for later use ! KM That belt needs to be very tight too !

Why on a 1991 Volvo 240 exterior lights will not turn off headlights tail lights licence plate light unplugged headlight switch it did nothing need to disconnect bat cable to shut them off?

does your car have a sensor in the dash or anywhere else for automatic lights on and off, it looks like a small ball. it works off of the same principle as a night light, when it is dark enough it the lights will come on, and vice versa, so check to see if you have one or if there is any papers on the dash clean it off. if this does not work and you so have a sensor like the one I described, it is probably bad

Where is the headlight relay on a Volvo 240?

You did not say what year. On the 1989 Volvo 240 GL, the headlight relay is mounted on the drivers side front fender just back from the battery box. The relay has two plugs going into the bottom and I would say about 1 inch wide, 2 inches long and about 1.5 inches deep.

The relay that you're referring to is the high beam relay. The headlight relay switch is located in the cab of the car behind the brake and gas pedals. You pull back the carpeting and it is mounted to the firewall.

How do you change an Acura Legend engine mount?

Where is the fuel filter on a Volvo 240 1990?

If it is the same as the 1989 then it is located under the vehicle, on the driver's side, right in front of the rear tire. It is held under the car by a bracket along with the external fuel pump. To access it, you need to remove the bolts that attach the bracket to the underside of the car. It helps to have the rear of the vehicle on stands and remove the tire in order to be able to reach it. Just be very careful when removing the bolts holding the fuel lines on that you don't accidentally twist or bend the lines, especially the short one between the pump and the filter, as it's very easy to damage, and not very cheap to replace!!

What type of power steering fluid does a 86 Volvo 240 wagon use?

Most power steering units use the generic power steering fluid available at most auto part stores. However, some import makes are different, sometimes using different fluid types in different years. Your best bet is to check the manual for the correct type. Volvo 240 manual specifies the following: Power steering fluid Capacity: 0.8 US qts = 0.75 liters.

Fluid type: ATF

Replace: no fluid change required.

The dipstick is attached to the cap. Fluid level should be between MIN and MAX marks. Add fluid when the level is at the ADD mark. The ATF in question is Dexron/Mercon, also used in the 240's automatic transmission. You may find it in different types, like II or III. The later type supersedes and replaces the older type. If you have to add fluid more often than once every couple of months, look for leaks. Hoses would be the first place to check, followed by pump and rack.
