Why are machine guns important?
Because, machine guns have a high rate of fire you can shoot multiple times without reloading, more ammunition, so you don't have to reload often. and some have very good range, for ex: the M16 has a range of up to 350-500 yards, as dose the AR-15. Machine guns also have good power too. So, to have a high rate of fire, good power, and range, is why they are important.

SAMs (Surface to Air Missiles) which gained notoriety during the Vietnam War (shooting down B-52 bombers/and fighter bombers) are for air defense and are part of the air defense system; as were deployed by North Vietnam during the war.
ICBMs (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles=Nuclear Warheads/Atomic Weapons) were to supplement or replace manned bombers which were offensive weapons (aircraft=bombers) to strike enemy cities and other targets (missile sites, sea ports, air fields, repair facilities, ammuntion depots, factories, etc.).

What were the Royal Flying Corps losses in world war 1?
Literally speaking there was NO USAF during World War One. There was a United States Army Air Service which eventually evolved into the USAF. However that doesn't answer your question. 235 airmen (pilots) were killed in action, 130 were wounded and 145 captured. 654 Air Service members (not pilots) were killed or died due to illness. This figure includes balloon pilots and aircrew.
Some casualties will not appear on the USAAS roles. Americans joined the French military before the US entered the war. Check out Escadrille Lafayette for details. A good starting point is: http://www.wwiaviation.com/aces/laffeyette.shtml.
Americans also joined the RFC - Royal Flying Corp of the British Army. The RFC evolved into the various air services in England, Canada - RAF, RCAF. I don't have any statistics on how many American casualties there were from either the RFC or Escadrille Lafayette. I'll check some of my books to see if there are figures.
If you wish to do more reading on the role of the Air Service during WW1 make sure you don't type in USAF or US air force. You may eventually find info, but it will take a long time. Some key words are USAAS or US Army Air Service, WW1 pilots, United States Army Air Corps, AEF Air Service and American pilots WW1. Don't confuse WW2 or WWII with WW1 when you type in any search or again you will get lots of info, which will be interesting but won't help you.
the USA didn't want to enter the war as they thought it was a war to be fought by Europe and didn't want to be involved in it.But as they did in ww2 supplied Britan with food, ammunition and weapon's. a German submarine sank a large American vessel this entering them into ww1.
on the last days of ww1 the American general and commander of his forces did not want to end it with both armies agreeing terms he wanted to defeat them in the streets of Berlin effectively creating an unconditional surrender. he said that if we don't we will just have to fight another war like this and 20 years later world war 2

The Mitsubishi A6M or Zero had a speed of 330 mph at 15,000 feet altitude. It could exceed that speed by as much as 80 mph, but because of the brittle nature of the aluminum made at that time, any speeds above 400 mph could result in self destruction of the aircraft.
