Where did Charlie Crews get the path to zen by SP Thomas?

All indications are that "The Path To Zen" by S.P. Thomas is a fake title and author.

Is zen a sin in Christianity?

No it not

Answer:

Yes, it is.

Zen is merely another form of man's "religion" or "worship" [or direction in which men's "minds; spirits" are pre-occupied other than upon their Creator; who is a "Jealous God" and who refuses to share the worship of His creation with any other].

Men call it: "spiritual enlightenment."

The Bible says: "...SIN IS the transgression of the law" (I John 3:4) -- the "law," being the Ten Commandments. The first of which is: "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."

And that includes the "worship of the self."

Zen is what Satan [the serpent] instructed Eve to contemplate in the Garden of Eden. Not the instruction and Words of her Creator... but, in essence, to "look to herself"... inside of herself for the answers. You can't "believe" what God tells you -- HE's A LIAR! He can't be trusted. He knows more than He's telliing you... keeping the Truth from you, which you will find within you. Discover this truth... and you will become ENLIGHTENED -- "you will be your own god" apart from "Faith" and "Belief" and "Devotion." You don't need God and His rules. MAKE UP YOUR OWN RULES, and decide for yourself what's right and wrong; good and bad.

"'For God knows that when you eat of it YOUR EYES WILL BE OPENED [you will become enlightened], and YOU WILL BE LIKE GOD, knowing good and evil.'" (Gen.3:5 NIV)

Zen is the "worship of the self." And the "self" is part of God's creation, which He commands no man to worship... or regard in any "spiritual, worshipful" manner:

"...any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above[birds, bees, stars, angels, etc], or that is in the earth beneath [men, animals, trees, bugs, etc], or that is in the water under the earth [fish, mammals, clams, lobsters, seaweed, etc]." (Ex.20:4)

Zen is "SELF-absorbing MEDITATION" -- contemplation and worship of the self.

God inspired David to say this about "meditation":

"Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider MY MEDITATION. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for UNTO THEE WILL I PRAY." (Ps.5:1-2)

"O how I LOVE THY LAW! IT IS MY MEDITATION all the day." (Ps.119:97)

God delights in this type of "meditation" by men.

Although men tend to ignore the Word of God... our Creator doesn't mince words regarding man's "worship" of what He has created. HE FORBIDS IT!

God's "law" says the worship of the self... or any one or any thing other than Himself IS A SIN!

How do you design a Japanese Zen garden?

You cannot design a true Zen garden any more than you can set out rules to be spontaneous. Like many aspects of Zen it comes from an instantaneous appreciation of the whole. The Zen approach would be to contemplate the location where you suspect a garden might be situated, until you can see it in your mind, then place the plants, rocks and sand where the plants, rocks, and sand exist in your vision of the garden.

Alternately you can build a Western interpretation of a Zen garden (see link) which will have the appearance of the garden without the spirit of it.

What countries in Europe practice Buddhism?

There are active Buddhists in almost all European countries, the larger states like Germany and the UK have between 100,000 and 300,000 Buddhists, reflecting almost all traditions. Not all Buddhist practise in open or public groups so they may not be visible from the outside. Often census data can provide helpful information on a country by country basis. It seems that the number of Buddhists in Europe is doubling every ten years, although this is from a very low base figure. As far as I know the only European country where Buddhism is the state religion is Kalmykia.

What are some major criticisms of Buddhism?

I think we should not be looking for "major criticisms" of any religion, since to do so could be regarded as offensive to its adherents. Look for the truth about religions, and if that leads to something that appears critical, or favourable, so be it. Therefore, a major criticism that Buddhism shares equally with Christianity, Judaism and all other religions is that no religion can be objectively proven to be the Truth. Perhaps the best answer to this question is to quote from Zoroastrianism: Good thoughts, good words and good deeds.
