Can polmolive dish soap kill fleas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I don't think so. I would try flea powder or anti-flea soaps. If you would like to have your cat/s cleaned everyday,

1. Buy animal shampoo.- Cheap ones could work.

2. Get some lukewarm water in a basin.- Not too much, just enough for your pet.

3. Get a absorbent cloth.- Dip it in the mixture and then, rub your pet. Use as much as it takes to rub it.

4. Get a DRY cloth. - Rub it all over until your pet is dry.

What education or training do you need to become a animal chiropractor?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To become an animal chiropractor (eg: an equine chiropractor), one must have a doctorate in chiropractic or a doctorate in veterinary medicine.

Thus, the steps will be:

1) Complete a 4 year university/college undergraduate degree (eg: Bachelors of Science)

2) Complete a 4 year doctorate in either chiropractic medicine or veterinary medicine

3) Pass national/regional board exams for veterinary or chiropractic medicine

3) Complete a certification program in animal manipulation (200 additional hours)

Once this is completed, you can call yourself a doctor of animal (eg: equine) chiropractic.

There are also 1 and 2 year programs available for someone who has no university or college training, called equine therapy. This is like becoming a massage therapist for horses, and I believe they also teach a couple of generic manipulation techniques. Once you have completed this program you can call yourself an equine therapist (many of these people call themselves equine chiropractors, but it is illegal to do so).

It probably depends where you live. Depending on your towns or even state's laws, it is hard to say. If you are doing this for friends or relatives, you are probably fine. But if this is a "job" you should probably look in to it since everyone is sue happy these days.

Should you use Dawn to shampoo your dog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dish soap will not harm a dog, but the pH of dogs' skin and fur usually necessitates special dog shampoo, so it's much better for your dog to get a dog shampoo with primarily natural ingredients.

If you do use dish soap on him/her dawn is the one to use

They may also loose they're appetite for a few days before heat commences. The Westie female will become attractive to the male dog usually from the first day of heat, but are not really interested until 7 to 10 days. What happens if you swallow mucus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you swallow a small piece of bubblegum, it's fine. It will not hurt you or anything. But you swallow a huge wad of double bubble with an extra layer of blueberry bubblegum, then, yes, you're really hurting yourself. You know when you eat food & you chew it down to swallow easier? I'm sure you couldn't swallow an entire hot dog so you have to chew it up. But bubblegum you can't really "chew." it just gets tastier when you do that and even harder to swallow, so it can get stuck in your throat. It would do too much bad to your actual body, but just don't try it.

How often do dogs go in heat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Female dogs go through a heat cycle, called estrus, on average every six months. However, this varies from animal to animal. She will have proestrus, or a bleeding cycle, before her true heat cycle during which she is very receptive to the advances of male dogs. This heat cycle lasts for several days up to three or four weeks. This heat cycles goes on unless you spay your dog. ---------- If you have an unaltered female who is going into heat you should be aware of all proper precautions, legal and moral responsibilities. Taking care of a female dog in heat can be very messy and so you will need to acquire several "dog bloomers" and replacement pads as well as cleaners, deodorizers, etc.

A female who is in heat cannot be sterilized until they have completed their cycle:

For safety reasons, dogs "in heat" (estrus) will not be operated upon until the cycle has ended. This usually is approximately 14 days after swelling has subsided. Female cats in heat can be spayed during their cycle. Source: Affordable Spay Neuter Clinic.

A female in heat may attract male dogs from near and far; leading to lots of visits of strays or neighborhood dogs who get out. It will mean you cannot take your dog to most dog parks and walking will be much more a chore as you watch out for amorous suitors.

Many local animal control ordinances basically put all the responsibility on the owner of the female in heat. For example the ordinance for Hillsborough County Florida states: The owner of a female dog or cat in heat (estrus) shall humanely confine such dog or cat in a building or proper enclosure so as to make her inaccessible to any male dog or cat, except for controlled, intentional permitted breeding purposes. When not in a proper enclosure, such dogs or cats shall be under the direct supervision of a responsible individual so that the dog or cat is not allowed to unintentionally come into contact with a male dog or cat and breed. Sterilization, especially before first estrus, greatly reduces the chance of several diseases and prevents unintended breeding and adding to the pet overpopulation problem.

The Humane Society of the United States publishes this information on their website at: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_caremyths_and_facts_about_spaying_and_neutering.html

= Myths and Facts About Spaying and Neutering = MYTH:My pet will get fat and lazy. FACT: The truth is that most pets get fat and lazy because their owners feed them too much and don't give them enough exercise. MYTH: It's better to have one litter first. FACT: Medical evidence indicates just the opposite. In fact, the evidence shows that females spayed before their first heat are typically healthier. Many veterinarians now sterilize dogs and cats as young as eight weeks of age. Check with your veterinarian about the appropriate time for these procedures. MYTH: My children should experience the miracle of birth. FACT: Even if children are able to see a pet give birth-which is unlikely, since it usually occurs at night and in seclusion-the lesson they will really learn is that animals can be created and discarded as it suits adults. Instead, it should be explained to children that the real miracle is life and that preventing the birth of some pets can save the lives of others. MYTH: But my pet is a purebred. FACT:So is at least one out of every four pets brought to animal shelters around the country. There are just too many dogs and cats-mixed breed and purebred. MYTH: I want my dog to be protective. FACT: Spaying or neutering does not affect a dog's natural instinct to protect home and family. A dog's personality is formed more by genetics and environment than by sex hormones. MYTH: I don't want my male dog or cat to feel like less of a male. FACT: Pets don't have any concept of sexual identity or ego. Neutering will not change a pet's basic personality. He doesn't suffer any kind of emotional reaction or identity crisis when neutered. MYTH: But my dog (or cat) is so special, I want a puppy (or kitten) just like her.FACT: A dog or cat may be a great pet, but that doesn't mean her offspring will be a carbon copy. Professional animal breeders who follow generations of bloodlines can't guarantee they will get just what they want out of a particular litter. A pet owner's chances are even slimmer. In fact, an entire litter of puppies or kittens might receive all of a pet's (and her mate's) worst characteristics. MYTH: It's too expensive to have my pet spayed or neutered. FACT: The cost of spaying or neutering depends on the sex, size, and age of the pet, your veterinarian's fees, and a number of other variables. But whatever the actual price, spay or neuter surgery is a one-time cost-a relatively small cost when compared to all the benefits. It's a bargain compared to the cost of having a litter and ensuring the health of the mother and litter; two months of pregnancy and another two months until the litter is weaned can add up to significant veterinary bills and food costs if complications develop. Most importantly, it's a very small price to pay for the health of your pet and the prevention of the births of more unwanted pets. MYTH: I'll find good homes for all the puppies and kittens. FACT: You may find homes for all of your pet's litter. But each home you find means one less home for the dogs and cats in shelters who need good homes. Also, in less than one year's time, each of your pet's offspring may have his or her own litter, adding even more animals to the population. The problem of pet overpopulation is created and perpetuated one litter at a time.

What products are effective at removing odors from a dog pen?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cedar chips are a good way to keep odors down. Pens must be cleaned out every day. I have a doggy run and two dogs, so I clean that run twice a day and also put cedar chips down and there is no smell. Cedar chips are a decent option for outdoor pens in dry areas. However, for concrete pens, or indoor runs I've only come across a couple things that really work well. One is a product called Natures Miracle... really wonderful stuff. I couldn't recommend it more highly than I do. The other option is to use a vinegar rinse. Typically, 1/2 vinegar to 1/2 water... really wet everything down... and then rinse really well with plain water afterwards. You don't want to leave any vinegar residue or smell behind. There are a lot of good cleaning products out there with that special enzyme that removes odors Petastic and Natures Miracle are really similar actually they were the same thing at one time Petastic got to keep the name Natures Miracle has the formula but there both good. Also Pet Friendly is good too!

Time to change your dog food to a healthy/natural no corn, no wheat, no by-products, no fillers and don't feed as much of the good stuff as you would of the junk food.

You could eat 5 hamburgers and be full, and eat 1 steak and be full. Same concept.

What brand of food is the best for poodles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are many good brands of dog food you can buy, Eukenuba and Iams to name a few, but I would recommend a dry kibble because poodles are prone to have more tooth decay and gum disease than other breeds of dogs. A semi-moist brand of food is fine too, just brush their teeth more often. Ask your vet for suggestions.

How many times a day do you have to walk a Doberman have to walk?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have a doberman, this is how I walk him.

7:30 1/4 of a mile

4:00 2 miles

8:00 1/4 of a mile

These are the definite walks I take my doberman (Baz). I love to take my Baz and on top of these, I take him extra walks. The 1/4 of a mile walks are really only for toilet walks and the 2 mile walks are really for his energy. He has his mad hour at about 6-7 at night, so I try to get him out of the house then, of play mentall stimulating games, like letting him sniff one of his rubber toys then out hin in another room and hide and let him sniff it out. He loves that game, and it's aither that of having him mad and rampaging up and down the living room.

n the morning at 7:30 I take him a 1/4 of a mile,

then at 4:00 I take him a tow mile walk,

then at 8:00 or 9:00 I take him the 1/4 mile walk again.

Is it ok to allow my 7 week old puppy to eat dry dog food?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

if they are eating the dry food on their own that is great. just make sure that they continue to nurse from the mother for at least a few more weeks, but it is ok to continue to introduce hard foods into their diet. try mixing some hot water with the kibble to soften it up for them since their teeth are just developing.

Why does your dog keep closing her eyes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

poDogs don't "sleep". They'll just nap... That's why it's easy to wake a "sleeping dog". And if they don't literally sleep, they can keep their eyes open while "sleeping"

It's actually normal for a dog to be sleeping with its eyes open, that means it's had a long day, or it's not sleeping, just staring at something.

What kind of puppy doesn't poo a lot?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

None if they are healthy. Food goes in and waste products come out. That is what you would want to see in a healthy pup. The better brand of dog food you feed, the smaller the actual poops will be, so feed your pup a good name brand of dog food, such as Natural Choice Puppy food or Innova food. The cheaper brands of dog good are not good for the pup and they will have much larger poops.

How long after my dog has her puppies can i get her fixed?

User Avatar

She should be spayed at least one month after she comes out of heat, and at least one month before she is expected to come back into heat. That typically leaves a three month window of opportunity.
