Why hasn't Glen Beck been excommunicated from the Mormon church for his racism and hate speech?

I have never heard any racist comments or hate speech coming from Glenn Beck. Yes he does have some very extreme opinions that many people (including many Mormons) don't agree with, but that doesn't make it hate speech.

As for why he hasn't been excommuncated... he hasn't done anything to be excommuncated! Excommuncation is a very extreme situation in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) and it rarely happens. Excommuncation can only take place when the person has admitted to a serious sexual sin or been legally convicted of serious crimes. Things such as spousal/child abuse, rape, adultry, polygamy, child molestation, and murder will get you excommunicated. Excommunication has also been known to happen in cases of apostasy in which the individual goes to great lengths to try to publically destroy the Church (such as a church member publishing an anti-Mormon book).

Rasicm and hate speech, although not approved of by the Church, are not grounds for excommuncation.

What is meant by institutional design?

Institutional design refers to the process of creating and organizing the rules, structures, and norms that govern the behavior of individuals and groups within an organization or society. It involves determining how institutions function, how power is distributed, and how decision-making processes are structured. Effective institutional design aims to enhance efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness, ensuring that institutions serve their intended purposes and meet the needs of their stakeholders. This concept is often applied in political science, economics, and organizational theory.

How is segregation back then compared to segregation now?

Segregation today is not what our grandparents back in the late 1900's may have seen it. Although different races may sit together inrestaurants and buses, drink from the same drinking fountains, and use the same restrooms etc., there is still segregation. For example, some people still think that there should be a difference between two different races and look at them a little weird when they do something that they think is out of place. Also, in a lot of America's larger cities, some races look down on other races, so I personally do not think that it is a one way thing. Segregation happens in a lot of different ways. Say for instance, when a kid gets picked on in school because he is a of a different culture. It is sad to think that even though we have The Constitution Of The United States, we still tend to treat different races unfairly.

Did people stop being racist after the holocaust?

There are certainly some people who changed their attitudes about race or racism, following the Holocaust. However, racism definitely continues to exist in our world today. People still like to give their allegiance to their own ethnic group, and to be hostile toward people of other ethnic groups. Most people do not really appreciate the fact that we are all members of the same species, H. sapiens. But some people do appreciate this fact. We still have a long way to go.

What are the five buildings in Chicago remaining from the Columbian Exposition?

I know that the Field Museum of Natural History building is one. I believe both the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium are also of that vintage. Museum row along the lake was where the Columbian Exposition was built, so I assume the other buildings would be right in that area. Actually, the Field Museum building was completed in 1921, and both the Adler Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium were completed in 1929-30. The Columbian Exposition was held in 1893, and took place in the Hyde Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods, which is about five miles south of the Museum Campus. Perhaps the previous poster was thinking of the Century of Progress Exposition in 1933. I only know of one building surviving from the Columbian Exposition, and that is the Museum of Science and Industry at 57th and Lake Shore Drive. I can't say for sure if any others survive.

What are some jokes and anecdotes that educate about racism?

There were racial problems on a school activity bus. Finally, the driver had enough. He stopped the bus, got everyone off, lectured them about racism, and told them all to forget their own race and think of themselves as Green. As soon as they got back on the bus, guess what they all said? "Light Green on this side and Dark Green on that side of the bus!" Sadly, it doesn't sound like they learned anything.

On an international flight, a loud passenger was going on and on about the airline seating them with someone of a different race. They said they didn't deserve to sit beside someone like that. The flight attendant went and spoke to the captain and came back. The flight attendant told the loud passenger that she was right, that she didn't deserve to sit with someone like that, because the passenger she was denigrating deserved much better. She then upgraded the minority passenger to first class seating, and the nearby passengers applauded.

What was going on in the apartheid government during 1892-1994 that allowed the leader to take control?

During the 102 years that you refer to there was a lot happening.

You may want to be more specific.

In general, during the beginning of the period Britain consolidated control of the region, developed the mining industries, passed legislation to force Black people off the land into industrial work, established reservations for Blacks.

The country "The Union of South Africa" was created from the original 4 countries and became self-governing in 1910.

The government from 1910 to 1994 was white controlled. Although policies in the era 1910 to 1950 were racially biased, so called "Grand Apartheid" blossomed in the 1960's after the country gained full independence from Britain as "The Republic of South Africa".

In the late 1980's, after decades of economic sanctions and guerrilla warfare it became clear that Apartheid was not sustainable and negotiations with the African National Congess began.

Why is segregation important?

"Segregation" means to keep separate. In terms of people, segregation (particularly on ethnic or racial lines) is generally a BAD idea. In terms of the handling of reactive chemical, it is a necessary process of keeping incompatible chemicals separated so they are unlikely to interact chemically during an upset or spill.

Should white people be slaves Because black people were I don't think so Post what you think?

I don't think anyone should be a slave because of their colour or ethnicity. What happened years ago to the black population was absoloutly disgusting and thankfully, in developed countries such as ours, slavery has been abolished! It wouldn't make it right to "even the score" as such and to make white people slaves. Firstly, as mentioned, its been abolished, and secondly, I think the majoirity of black people would think it foolish to do so anyway. Oppression isn't right for anybody.

Of course not. The only reason why black people were slaves was because they were naive compared to the white people. They were quite primitive compared to the white and their own technology. They spoke different languages and did different rituals. So what the Europeans did, which was horrible, was trick them into being their slaves one way or another. It is similar to Christopher Columbus's meeting with the Indians when he went to the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus actually said that the Indians were "...like infants..." for holding the sharp edge of his sword. The people being of different skin color helped them to be able to differentiate them from each other. Europeans even did treated people of similar skin color like that because the are poor. It had nothing to do with their skin color, just how smart they were. Many years being with the whites though caused them to be understand much more that they shouldn't be slaves and they were freed.

Long story short: no. Nobody should be in bondage because of history and tension. No one should be anyone's slave. That was what we settled with many years of activism and trials. People like Martin Luther King Jr. and Fredrick Douglas wanted everyone to live in harmony. Now if you are asking what it would of been like to be in the shoes of blacks back then, that is a different story. Hearing and seeing it is enough torture for some people, making them work would just be horrible.

How is unity a consequence of institutional design?

Unity in a society is often a consequence of institutional design because well-structured institutions can foster cooperation and shared goals among diverse groups. When institutions are inclusive, transparent, and accountable, they promote trust and engagement among citizens, reducing divisions. Additionally, mechanisms like federalism or power-sharing can help accommodate various interests, leading to a more cohesive society. Ultimately, effective institutional design can create a framework that encourages collaboration and mutual understanding, enhancing social unity.
