How many calories in aspartame?
That's the same as asking how many grams in a cup. There are 236.5 grams in a cup.
What are other names for aspartame?
Names for Aspartame are NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Canderel, E951, and others.
Does Aspartame contains as many kcal per gram as table sugar?
Yes it does, because it is composed of amino acids, and they have about the same Caloric content as carbs. But one packet of aspartame contains a little less than 1 gram of digestible carbohydrates (about 4 Calories-worth) to act as a "filler", along with about 35mg of aspartame (the actual sweetener) which supplies far less than 1 Calorie. The total Calories is thus about 4, and the rules of food labeling allow a serving of any food that provides fewer than 5 Calories to be described as Calorie-free (0 Cals). The equivalent sweetening power from table sugar would be two level teaspoons weighing about 8.4 grams, which (at 4 Cals per g) would provide about 34 Cals.
Aspartame itself is about 200 times sweeter than table sugar.
Does Aspartame cause memory problems?
Yes. In some people. I'm not sure why. But I am one of those people. I was seeing a doctor and about to get a terrible diagnosis when I decided to quit drinking and eating anything that contained aspartame. Within days my symptoms were better, within weeks, the symptoms were gone. At first, like most, drinking these diet drinks (Coke Zero, Sprite Zero) and eating sugar-free and "light" foods seemed great and I lost weight like my doctor wanted (just shedding a few pounds because I have high BP), but more and more I started noticing symptoms that were scary like sudden memory loss (short term memory really bad), joint pain, anxiety attacks, and many other symptoms that others have also complained of. Now I will NEVER knowingly use any artificial sweetener or knowingly consume any product containing artificial sweetener. By the way, I was ONLY drinking 1/2 to 1 can of soda a day and eating very few foods containing artificial sweetener, so contrary to popular belief moderation is NOT the key.
Not everyone reacts to Aspartame in the same way. If one has an allergy to certain components of the Aspartame, it may cause problems, but to date there are NO RELIABLE results of testing to definitively blame any damage from Aspartame.
What temperature does gum have to be in order for you not to get aspartame poisoning?
Any temperature - It takes a lot more aspartame than is in gum to cause poisoning.
Can aspartame affect the menstrual cycle?
Yes it can. It has changed mine (namely my menstruation stopped!).
Most probably it impairs the functioning of the pituitary, which in turn changes menstrual pattern.

What is the effect of aspartame on teeth?
Asparatame is considered an alternative sweetener. Alternative sweeteners are essentially calorie-free and at least 30 times sweeter than sucrose. There currently are five alternative sweeteners approved for use in the United States: saccharin, acesulfame-K, sucralose, aspartame and neotame. Aspartame is composed of two naturally occurring amino acids (the building blocks of protein) - phenylalanine and aspartate. Aspartame has a flavor similar to sucrose, and also functions as a taste intensifier and enhancer. Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sucrose and has no aftertaste. A packet of this sweetener is equivalent in sweetness to two teaspoons of sugar (32 calories), for just four calories. Products that contain aspartame must carry a warning to people with phenylketonuria, a rare genetic disorder that prevents proper metabolism of phenylalanine. Unlike the alternate sweeteners saccharin, cyclamate acesulfame K, neotame and sucralose, which have no nutritional value, aspartame contributes calories. This is due to the fact that it can be used by the body just as any other protein, but the amounts are so small that its caloric value is insignificant. Aspartame does not contribute to tooth decay.
How many hydrogen atoms are present in 2.00mg of aspartame?
The amount of hydrogen atoms that are present in 2.00 mg of aspartame are 2.167*10^22.
What are the products of aspartame cleavage by chymotrypsin?
Aspartate and Phenylalanine methyl ester. The phenylalanine is then converted into Tyrosine by Phenyalanine Hydroxylase in people who don't have PKU.
No, it is a necessary amino acid for building protein and making certain other chemicals needed by the body.
However some people that have a rare genetic disease called PKU, because they do not produce enough of a enzyme that metabolizes unused phenylalanine the chemical keeps building up in the body until it eventually reaches toxic levels (note that anything including water, sugar, oxygen necessary to life will be toxic at a high enough concentration). Sometimes it reaches high enough levels that you can actually smell it when you are near such persons!
methanol is produced.
No, Sweetex is made from sodium saccharin, the solid form of the non-nutritive sweetener saccharin.
Diet candy may contain aspartame. Nondiet candy is more likely to contain sugar or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). The only way to be sure if a candy bar contains aspartame is to read the ingredients on the label, keeping in mind that aspartame may be listed under different names.
Does aspartame cause headaches?
Aspartame may trigger some types of headache in susceptible individuals.
For appropriate diagnosis, treatment and management of headache and Migraine, please seek the help of a board certified Migraine and headache specialist who has had extensive and specialized training on helping patients with these issues.
What is the equivalent in sugar of 2 grams of aspartame?
Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar. One tablespoon of sugar is approximately equivalent to 0.5 grams of aspartame and has 97% fewer calories than sugar.
Does aspartame cause stiffness of the knees?
No, aspartame has not been associated with side effects. However, having intensely sweet things such as diet soda makes people less willing to enjoy the not-so-intense sweetness of something like a tomato, apple, or pear. This leads people to choose nutritionally poor diets. In addition, it has been theorized that because our bodies often use sweetness to determine how many calories we've consumed [left over from our hunter-gatherer days], we can get desensitized to sweet things and want to consume more to get what our bodies consider the right ammount of calories. This can lead to overeating.
Why doesn't aspartame react in Benedict's soluion?
It's not a reducing sugar. In fact, it's not a sugar at all. Benedict's solution gives a positive test, brick-red precipitate, with reducing sugars such as glucose and fructose.
It pretty much means when you put a Mento into a carbonated drink (coca-cola), it has a chemical reaction and it goes BOOM.
What brand name is aspartame sold under?
Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names NutraSweet, AminoSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure.
