On the end of the crankshaft is a set of electrical windings that turns as the crankshaft turns ( known as the rotor ) . There are staionary windings mounted in the engine casing that do not turn ( known as the stator ) . this makes up your alternator and this charges the battery as the engine is running . it could be one of three things the battery plates are no longer any good ,or the charging system is not working ,or you have a bad battery cable ,hope this helps
this helped me....The stator is, as said above, a set of wire coils. As the bike runs a magnet spins inside the stator inducing an electical current in the stator. That current is an AC (alternating current) current. From there it goes to the rectifier which is a set of diodes that convert the AC current to DC (direct current) current. Then there's the regulator which is a circuit that controls the DC voltage output of the rectifier so that you will charge, but not overcharge, the battery, and also continue to run the electricals on the bike.
And as stupid as it seems , A bad or low charged battery will cause the same symptons as you are experincing , i had the same problems with backfiring , cleaned plug , carb changed rectifyer ect . Ask a local rider and he said put new battery , i did and no problems since
