Why didn't other countries colonize Australia?

Although other countries had the opportunity to colonise Australia, they chose not to. Australia was first "officially" discovered by Dutch traders in the East Indies: however, they landed in the west, one of the least forgiving areas of the continent and decided that it was not worth colonising. The climate was harsh; the terrain was flat and uninspiring; and the country appeared to offer no resources they could utilise or exploit.

Likewise, the French, hearing of the Dutch discovery, sent an expedition to map more of the coast. This did not, however, lead to any attempts to colonise due to the dryness of the land, but the French did spend the next decades exploring elsewhere along the coast. They bided their time, wanting to see if the land was worth colonising.

It was not until James Cook's successful voyage which involved charting the eastern coast of Australia, that New South Wales was seen as a viable proposition for a convict colony. In particular, it was endorsed by Sir Joseph Banks, the influential botanist who travelled with Cook. Banks was one of three botanists aboard Cook's ship "The Endeavour", and he was a passionate advocate of British settlement and colonisation of the Australian continent. It was largely upon Cook's and Banks's recommendation that Australian ultimately was colonised by the British, and not by another power later.

How globalization influence marketing activities?

Marketing today is very different from what it used to be a few decades ago, mainly due to a rapidly changing world economy and the development of fast and virtually free knowledge distribution and exchange. Marketing faces many new challenges in the 21st century but none for important than the surge of globalization and information technology, both which impact current businesses more than any other factors. These 2 challenges can make or break a business and it requires the implementation of brand new strategies to cope with the rapidly evolving global market we have today.

Example: Two thirds of the world is not Christian. Christians can listen and learn from other cultures. There are other spiritual paths that work for people. Respecting and tolerating different people is a good thing.

How did the siege of tobruk impact Australia?

It could just be me, but I believe that Australians were greatly impacted in a positive way after the siege of the Tobruk. When the Germans withdrew and surrendered their was a feeling of elation, as it was the first victory of allied troops over the Germans in WW2.Unlike in past times when information on the battle would have been censored, the news was spread and pride swept over the nation.

Do you agree or dissagree with the white Australian policy?

In my opinion, (Justice Dyball) the white australia policy was discriminating and refused not not Aboriginals but middle-eastern, eastern (chinese, japanese), or african or south american (latin america). In this policy these people had to complete a biased examination on the history of the english federation and australian federation and spaek in another language that they knew that the applicants wouldn't speak, from this i can conclude that this was a damaging and destructive policy and we are lucky to have a multi-cultural society in 2011.

What caused the Cowra POW breakout?

The opportunity presented itself to the Japanese POWs. The Japanese prisoners were informed they would be transferred to the prison complex at Hay, in western New South Wales. This gave them the opportunity to organise a breakout. Around 2am on 5 August 1944, an unauthorized bugle signal sounded for the Japanese prisoners to rush from their huts and attack the fences of the compound. Around 900 Japanese joined in the attack, and those who didn't were killed by their compatriots, or they committed suicide. They stormed the outer barbed wire fence using blankets and baseball gloves for protection, armed with knives, baseball bats, clubs studded with nails and hooks, wire stilettos and garotting cords.
